New City Movers Reviews (%countItem)

New City Movers - Aaron P was paid deposit of $476.00 to move furniture from ***, WI to *** AZ September 2020 reference ***.
We made many attempts to contact, email, chat websites, and no responses in past two weeks they stole our money

To Whom it May Concern,

New City Movers located in New Jersey was given an extremely detailed estimate in regards to pick up and delivery. After the deposit was made there was a lack of communication and direction. After several phone calls, long hold times and multiple emails later I was finally able to get through to the service department and get the move scheduled. Upon pick up and after everything had been loaded up in the truck I was told the final delivery charge would be $2800 dollars - which far exceeded the original quote given (have the documentation to prove it).

Upon delivery there were a number of broken items and items not put back together as I was told they would be. The contract/invoice lists more loopholes than I’ve ever seen. When delivery was finally made, all the extra charges were more than double than the invoice presented.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

We reserved New City for our move and paid our deposit. Originally it was supposed to go through ***. *** was not working on their end so they asked for us to send a picture of our check. We paid via check $438.16. A week prior to the move, we called to confirm our move but no one was answering the line. We tried all of their extensions: 1 for new customers, 2 for before your move, 3 for after your move. We called our sales rep and it rang without a voicemail. We called other numbers which also rang without a voicemail. We used their chat on the site which claimed to have a real person - we did not receive ANY response. I tried calling again and went through the prompts starting at 1 again as a new customer. Someone answered verbatim "I am on a conference call on the other line can I call you back?" I stated that I needed to talk to someone right away. She responded with "I'll call you back I'm on the other line" and hung up. A few hours later I tried again and dialed 2 at the prompts and finally received a person. I explained that I was no longer confident in the company and would like to cancel my move. She said shed have her manager call me later. The manager called and said that our sales rep had been on medical leave and that the phones were having technical issues. She said our deposit would be non-refundable and assured me that our move was scheduled and reliable. I told her I would call back the next day and sleep on it. I also asked for her to give me another number to call as a back up as I did not like m experience and wanted to feel like I had a line of communication once they had my stuff. She said there was no other number to give me. I tried the next day to call and the line is busy for hours. At this point we are canceling our move with them and wish to receive our deposit. Regardless of the 48 hour rule, they have not been available or had reliable communication and so they cannot be trusted with my belongings. I want my $438.16 refunded ASAP.

I hired this company to move my household items from Oh to CT on July 23rd for an estimate cost of $3771.72, I requested a private truck and thought that's what I was getting. On the day of the move around 5:20 pm after they load all my items on their truck they called me and said the price will be about an additional $8200 upcharge and wanted me to pay $3k then they said it will be $7294.47instead of $8200 when they called me to give me a delivery date of 8/1they said they have to get a shuttle because their truck could not make the turn in the driveway and that will be an addition $2288then they offered me $988discount to sign off on a settlement agreement which I did not when they finally delivered my dresser lamp pictures were broken my suitcases other boxes are missing I have called & emailed numerous times and they sent me a claim form to fill out I have emailed them & try to explain I don't know all the items missing but sent them the numbers on the boxes they coded and asked them to look at their inventory to find the boxes still no answer however they have over $9k of my money, total cost $9582.47.They also damaged the walls and front door and the new owner is asking me to pay for the damages.the items in my suitcase are designer bags.this is a billing and delivery issue

This company is a fraud. I reserved this company a month ago. Today was my moved out date. I'm moving from NJ to FL. They quoted me $1600 for my move to Florida. I was clear to them that I didn't want any hidden fees. They assured me that would be the rate. I asked for a COI because my property management company needed it asap. It took a month for them to provide. They called me and told me that my pick up window was 9am-1pm. They didn't show up until 12pm. 3 guys that look like regular young dudes. One of them starts giving me the run around with my boxes. I have no furniture to move. He tells me that it's going to be almost $5,000 for the move. I tell him I didn't budget for that. I speak to Sheyanne we exchange words. She tells me to shut up. She knows I'm in a bind. We agree to $2800 for the move. I tell the guy that's sitting in my living room. He says that's not right. She calls me back and says no that it is now $3400 according to pictures he sent her. I asked them to leave my home and canel. I asked for my $320 deposit refunded. She said she can't refund because they showed up to my home. They purposely showed up late to my home bc they knew I needed to move to Florida and change the price in hopes that I would say find here is the $5,000. They were sadly mistaken. I had to find another company today. My move is now pushed out to Aug 20th. They need to be shut down.

They took our stuff and now we cant find them. They are not answering phone and we have no idea where our stuff is or who has it or if we will ever see it again.

Call your lawyer before you call this company. We gave extremely detailed information to get a proper estimate to move. The contract lists more loopholes than I’ve ever seen. When final delivery was made, all the extra charges exceeded $5,000.

So I decided to go with this company to help me move out of state so it started on July 1 st 2020 they came to my house and picked up all my belongs told me that it would be delivered on the 3rd of July. So my whole family drove all night long to get here and there was no truck . So we called and Tiffany answered the phone and told us that they dont even have a date for are belongings to be delivered. So then we asked her when would they deliver are belongings she told us that we werent on the schedule and to call back on the 15th of July and that they have the right to hold our belongings up till 21 days and in the are contract it saids they can only hold are stuff up to 5 to 10 days we are only 934 miles from Indiana to Texas. Then on the 17th we called still not on the schedule then they told me that a tractor trailer cant get down my street and wanted 1660 more after we paid them a deposit of 680 and when they picked up or stuff we paid them a cashier check for 3650 and on delivery we owe 1560 .So on july 27th the manager told us are stuff would be here 2 to 3 days . Today is Aug 7 and we called and Tiffany hung up on me and my husband called back and they said now it wont be here until Thursday 13th of Aug . Please I need help getting my belongings or help on the next matters I need to do call the police what im confused I just want my stuff.

Missed pick up date, lack of notice about the missing pick update, lack of customer service, lack of communication between the employees, price inflation upon pick up after being late, Horrifying customer service experience, not scheduling a delivery date even after payment, requiring me to sign a waiver for any past and future problems and my rights as a consumer to file complaints even before the delivery of HHG.

Horrible service. They took my quote, put down the wrong date and then called me 24 hrs before the movers were scheduled to come on the WRONG day. I had to call my building to see if the loading dock was open but it was not so I called New City Movers to see if we could do the next day as originally scheduled. They were able to move it but I told them there could be a possible overlap towards the end of the window. The woman who told me she was “manager of dispatch” was rude and short with me every time I spoke to her and finally she said “well you keep causing us problems.” I started to explain why the building was doing this but she kept interrupting me then had the audacity to get mad at me when I yelled for her to listen to what I was saying. I have never experienced such horrible customer service and I will ensure no one I know ever confuses them with the MUCH better New City Moving.

I had scheduled a move from *** MA to ***, NY with pick up confirmed for a two-day pickup window (July 28 or 29). I made plans to travel by train to *** to pack up. First I was notified on July 27 that my pick up would be on July 29. Then, on July 28 I was notified that a truck had broken down by the side of the road and that this would delay my pick up to July 30. Although this changed all my carefully made plans I accepted the delay on the condition of a same day delivery. I requested confirmation in writing of this which I never received. I also requested further information about the timing of my pick up due to limited Amtrak train schedules because of Covid (to ensure I could get back to NYC to receive delivery). When neither request was granted I requested a refund but was told I had voided my chance to receive a refund when I agreed to July 30 pick up. Given the increased risk of travel due to Covid and the change in plans, I feel I should be entitled to a refund of my deposit of $240. I was told this is not their company policy and since they have me on a recorded line agreeing to the change in date there are no grounds for a refund. But I felt the terms kept changing—first I was told same day delivery would cost extra. Then I learned to ensure same day delivery I would need to pay my outstanding balance in cash or USPS postal order at pick up. But then I was told same day delivery was not guaranteed since the drivers might go over their hours and not be able to make the delivery. These changes made me increasingly nervous and decide to cancel the move since nothing I needed to safely plan was guaranteed. All I wanted was the ability to safely plan my move in the midst of the pandemic. When I decided to cancel my move I was told I would receive confirmation of the cancellation which I still have not received. This process has been extremely distressing.

EXTORTION:

On May 22nd 2020 I hired New City Moves to move my belongings from *** WI , to *** Maryland on the date of 6/19/20. They quoted me at 1,200, after having already over-hedged in prediction of the weight of my belongings. I was assured that this moving date was ok. I received a call the day before my confirmed moving date and was told that they wouldn’t be coming until 6/20/20. I explained how detrimental this was to my scheduled move/arrangements. They stated, “we have a grace period of 2 days from your planned moving date sir, it’s in the contract.” I begrudgingly conceded and scattered to make new arrangements accordingly.

The day of the move I logged into my bank account to see that I had been charged an extra $800 for a truck exchange and extra $600 for overweight item charges. I received another call that another truck exchange was necessary and charged an additional $800. The claim was that they could not fit a semi into my driveway to move my things. A $40 I haul truck would have sufficed to move my SMALL apartment contents. None of these charges were communicated at the in-person sign off when they picked up my belonging with the FIRST TRUCK that they arrived with that ostensibly could not fit in my drive way! They’re claiming that I can’t get my belongings back until I’ve paid the additional charges, triple the amount quoted, and will be charged additional daily charges for each day until the new balance of $3,400 has been paid.

If my stuff was overweight, OK! But how are there TWO truck exchanges required? How does this warrant an additional 180% charge beyond the initial quote?
