Dear Revdex.com:Thank you for notifying our office of this complaint as it is our mission to provide the best treatment and service to each patient at Benson Dermatology After receiving your email, I contacted Katey D*** Benson Dermatology’s office manager, and DrBenson concerning this
complaint, and up to this time, Katey has spoken to *** *** both yesterday afternoon (1-11-18) and this morning (1-12-18) concerning this matterBelow are the details in bold text concerning the visits by the *** family which Katey sent me:Ms*** and her two children were seen in our office in November and December All three of the family members had a new patient visit along with a treatment and a folltreatment visitBefore patients are seen by a provider, they are required to fill out new patient paperwork before the encounterIn that paperwork, there is a financial policy that details what the office is responsible for and what the patient is responsible for as well as a credit card policyThe financial policy explains that full payment is due at the time services are renderedThe credit card policy is optionalIf a patient fills the credit card policy out, the patient is authorizing our office to charge up to $on the credit card number the patient gives and then be billed for the remaining balance, if anyIf a patient has a deductible still to be met, our office policy is to collect $at time of serviceAfter patient is seen, the insurance company is billed for the servicesThe insurance company then sends our office a cost adjustment for the treatment and/or payment informationOnce the adjustment and/or payment is made to the patient’s date of service, the $is applied to the balance, and then the patient is billed for the remaining balanceWe do not collect the entire deductible amount up front from any patient since we do not know precisely the adjustments the patient’s insurance may makeWe just take a $fee and then bill on the back endMs*** gave our office permission (signed policy) to run her credit card for any unpaid balance for herself and one of her children up to $per date of serviceThe spouse filled out the other child's new patient paperwork and did not fill out the credit card policy, so no additional charges were charged for that child because there was no authorization on fileThe patient’s insurance didn't pay Benson Dermatology anythingThere were adjustments to the charges, those were made appropriately, and the remaining balance was sent to the patient for payment dueThe patients have a very high deductible with their insurance company as do may other patientsWe have documentation to support all charges ran on credit cards (either sign authorization on file or the patient and spouse physically ran their card while in the office)Both our financial policy and credit card policy can be found in full under the “Patient Center” tab of the BensonDerm.com website Please click on the “New Patient Papers” link and scroll down until you see both policies Although Benson Dermatology sees hundreds of patients every month, this is the first time we have had a formal complaint concerning the collection of the $from a patient with a deductibleI asked Katey to send me what were the charges for the *** family, what was already paid, and what is owed Here are those details below:Total charges: $1,500.00BCBS adjustment: $666.90Patient responsibility: $833.10Payment by patient to the office: $587.06Remaining balance: $246.04Katey reiterated to DrBenson and myself the conversations she had with *** *** In summary, *** *** said he did not want to pay any more to Benson Dermatology for the services rendered by our office for his family DrBenson agreed to waive the remaining balance of $246.04.At 2:today (1-12-18), I received the following in an email from Katey: I did speak with *** *** and he was very happy and thankful for taking care of the remaining $He asked me how to make it right with the Revdex.comI told him I was unsure but that we’re responding back to them today and letting them know we spoke and was settledHe said he would also do the same.Please let me know if any more details are needed to fully understand the nature of this matter I will be happy to supply all we can if within HIPAA compliance.Best regards,Kerry *** (formerly Kerry B***Management SupervisorTell us why here
