The *** stated that we only would work a few hours or days per week etcthe fact is we worked when we could based on days that they were home and they did not want us to work when they were not there which was to days out of the weekAs far as the shower door we ordered from a Florida
based company and the original order was lost due to the trucking company, then we re-ordered and the glass was cut wrong all of this took over one and a half month and we had no control over these things because this material was paid for in advanceIn the meantime I,m corresponding with the glass company to reconcile the situationTo some things up I will reach out to the *** to see what we can do to satisfy them thanks

Mr. J[redacted] contacted Revdex.com to address the concerns brought up in this complaint. While there was a delay at this job it was because of a back order for the siding the customer wanted and windows that needed to be ordered. The business does acknowledge this concern and while he is not willing to...

refund the customer the price he is requesting because work has been done he is will to refund the customer $400.

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.[RESPONSE to Revdex.com  9/19/16 We addressed our availability in a previous Revdex.com response – more than adequate to complete a 3 week job.  While Mr. J[redacted] waited to resolve his credit card purchase (July 19 delivery) for the shower glass enclosure, all work came to a halt. There was a period when he did not communicate with us for at least 30 days.    There was work items to be completed that had not been touched for months.  I was home every day during May, June, July and August.  All work has been addressed serially when several tasks could have been worked at the same time within a given day.   His typical work day was 2 to 3 hours.   We do not have a completion date on the contract and have never know when or if he would finish – even though we requested a plan to complete on April 6.  The cessation of work started April 6, after receiving the second scheduled payment and an extra draw of $600.00 – more than 60% of the money consumed with a remaining line item requiring 60% of the funds.  There has been an enormous amount of rework that absorbed additional funds on the contract that he requested me to purchase using funds from the final payment.  So there is no funds left to pay someone to complete all of these tasks.  We are requesting funds to cover the cost of incomplete work items as well as the required rework. We should not have to pay for rework that has been generated by him.  Additional items in the master bath have been identified and documented that will require rework.   We will select the person to complete the job.    Some examples include: the tile floor is coming up.  When you step on one corner of the tile, the opposing corner of that tile pops up.  Grout is coming out of the seam where tiles meet.  Floor tiles are not level. Several are not secure and could cause water to leak into the floor.  Tiles are separating.   For the shower area, there is a hole that ½ in by ¼ inch near the floor that could cause water leaks.  The tiles are not leveled properly to mount a glass enclosure.  There are sharp corners that should be smooth.  The tiles are not flushed with the wall.  The shower diverter is not installed properly and will cause leaks.  The shower head is not installed properly and will cause leaks.  Our findings have been confirmed by multiple sources.  There are also many cosmetic errors.  We need to take care of the substandard work that will cause major damage as well as long term damage.  We have already had a leak to the ceiling below the bathroom to my laundry room down stairs.  Mr. J[redacted] repaired this leak. The following items have not been completed and/or need rework:Paint garage door and caulk garage side door around door knobFinish installing vanity – crown molding around top and fix nail holes on cabinetFix crack on kitchen wall  (Chesterfield County Home Inspector found that there was no problem with foundation)Remove white chips of caulk on deckRemoval of debris from projectPay for the vanity mirror damaged by his employee Complete the necessary rework on the shower and bathroom floor to comply with standard practicesHis offer of $1500 acknowledges that there is work to be done.  His offer will not even address the cost of the shower door/glass enclosure, nor the separate fee for installing the door. We are requesting $6,250 to purchase materials, complete unfinished tasks, remove faulty workmanship tiles, and then complete all of the required rework.  We have not been able to fully utilize our bathroom for more than 220 days.  This is more than an inconvenience.   We need to get this project completed immediately.  There has been no attempt to finish this job in a timely manner.Regards,[redacted]

Revdex.com spoke with the business. The business acknowledges the garage door, the crown molding, the glass in the shower door, and one of the tiles on the floor. However, the business is still waiting to receive estimates from the business regarding the amount they are requesting back from him to complete the work. The business would also need to see photos of the other damages the customer alleges are still there as well as the inspectors report because that crack was fixed prior to this case. The business is unable to address any of this further without those documents provided by the customer.

Review: On 6/5/16, Art J[redacted] of New Look Construction (NLC) and I entered into a contract for NLC to perform home improvement on my primary residence. I paid 50% deposit on the entire job to Art, and the job was scheduled to complete within 2 weeks (6/20). Contract total was $2,100. On 6/5, I paid Art $1,050.

One part of the job was completed within the first week. After the first week, no additional work was done. I contacted Art multiple times over the following month, and he made and broke several promises to come back to finish the job. A month later, I offered for Art to settle the contract by returning $550 of the deposit back to me to reflect how much of the job was completed. Art replied saying that he was only willing to return a much smaller portion of the deposit.

Breakdown of the estimate vs. completed work is as follows:

Crawl Space (install plastic for vapor barrier): estimate $300 / completed 100%

Electrical (supply electricity to shed from house panel): estimate $400 / completed 30%

Shed (install vinyl siding and trim on shed): estimate $800 / completed 10%

Windows (install 3 vinyl replacement windows on shed): estimate $600 / completed 0%

Subtracting the value of work completed ($300 for crawl space + 30% of $400 for electrical + 10% of $800 for shed) from the deposit I paid ($1,050): 1,050 - (300 + 120 + 80) = $550.

The partially-completed work assessments (electrical and shed) are quite generous given how little was done and what outstanding issues exist with the work:

Electrical issues: receptacles in the shed do not work, light fixture above shed door blinks when turned on, installation is not compliant with electrical code: connections under house not in junction boxes, wires sticking out of a junction box in shed, conduit carrying the cable from house to shed buried barely 6 inches; code requires 18 in.

Shed: no siding has been delivered or installed. Only some prep work was done (15 existing trim boards and shutters removed)Desired Settlement: Art J[redacted]/New Look Construction should refund $550 to me.

Deposit Paid by me ($1,050) - Work Completed by NLC ($500) = Refund Expected ($550)
