New Penn Motor Express Reviews (2)

November 18, 2014
To Whom It May Concern:
I have reviewed the documentation for the shipment New Penn Motor Express handled from [redacted] in [redacted] NJ to [redacted] in [redacted] NY, our Pro #[redacted]. Our driver arrived at [redacted] on April 8, 2014 to make the delivery of 7...

pieces of freight with a total weight of 526 lbs. He was at the delivery location from 13:22 until 15:06 to complete the delivery. All arrival and departure times are documented in the daily manifests for each driver. For this particular shipment we allowed 30 minutes for delivery, however the actual time if took was 104 minutes. Our standard tariff allows for detention charges of $40.00 in 15 minute increments, which in this case totals $200.00. Due to the extended time required to make this delivery a detention bill (Pro #[redacted]) was issued for the detention charges. Attached is a copy of the applicable pages of our tariff. In addition, all calls and information related to a specific shipment are documented in our system. There aren't any notations indicating the consignee contacted New Penn regarding these charges. If that were the case we could have provided a copy of the Freight Bill Tracing for this shipment. , a copy of which is also attached.
Our standard payment terms are Net 30 days. When a bill has not been paid within 90 days it is our practice to forward the bill to an outside collection agency. That is the procedure we followed in this case. Please let me know if you need any additional information.
Sincerely,Debra P

Review: I purchased a used, mint-condition motor through an auto parts supplier in Philadelphia. It was shipped via New Penn Motor Express. The motor was (to my surprise) never secured or tied down upon pick up. The driver said, and I quote "Don't worry about it. It'll be fine." The motor tipped over and fell during shipping which severely damaged the valve cover and exhaust gas return valve, and then arrived UPSIDE DOWN to my mechanic's shop in New Hampshire, with all the weight resting on the plastic valve cover. The damages totaled $500. I called New Penn and asked them if they would cover the damages that occurred during shipping. They basically told me to go pound sand.

I thought I was dealing with professionals.. This is why I hired a professional freight company to ship the motor: SO THAT IT WOULD NOT GET DAMAGED during shipping, and if by some rare chance they made a mistake and it DID get damaged, that they would be able to come up with $500 to cover the damages. But not only did they break my motor and then allow it to be shipped upside down, but they won't even cover the damages. I cannot believe that this is considered acceptable business practice.

Bottom line is, they damaged the motor, it's their fault, and they are responsible for the damages.Desired Settlement: The repairs have been quoted at $495, including labor. All I ask is that New Penn Motor Express cover the damages and I will retract my complaint.
