New York Medical Career Training Center Reviews (3)

Revdex.com:At this time, I have not been contacted by New York Medical Career Training Center regarding complaint ID [redacted].Sincerely,[redacted]

Review: I had paid to take ECG and Phlebotomy classes to take for six weekends. [redacted] had a teacher named [redacted] teacher us nothing; she was teaching students and I wrong information about the subjects we had paid for. The teacher was teaching very wrong information, disrespectful to everyone in the class, and dressed unprofessional. When the students and I approached [redacted] about the situation we was having with the teacher [redacted] he told everyone that he was going to get us another teacher and that she wouldn’t be teaching us anymore. The next day I had class she was still there teaching us and I had approached [redacted] about the situation and he said he couldn’t find anyone to replace her so we have to deal with her another day until he gets someone else. I was very frustrated with him because he told everyone the day before that he would get another teacher. Since we had to sit with the [redacted] again she was still teaching very wrong information, disrespectful to everyone in the class, and dressed unprofessional. We had to then complain again to him which made no difference to him. We finally got a new teacher a week later. I had then found out that he never fired the teacher he just had her teach in the other school that he directs in Flushing, New York. I had found this out because a teacher told me she works at the other school in Flushing now. Since we went through all the changes with the teacher [redacted] told everyone in class he would pay for us to get the study guide for us to use for our National Exam. He said he would pay out of his pocket 40$ because he felt bad of what we went through with the teacher [redacted]. When I passed the class and received my certificate I asked [redacted] for the study guide he promised me. He then for a couple of days gave me a run around until finally on 8/**/2013 on the phone I told him I am going to come by for my certificate because I never got the chance to pick it up and the study guide that was promised. I told him I was going to come in on 8/**/2013 to pick everything up. He told me on the phone that everything will be ready for me to pick it up. I went to the school on Friday 8/**/2013 and my certificate was ready but not the study guide. I spoke to [redacted] and told him I would like to get the study guide that was promised so that I can go on with what I have to do. He told him I have to wait in line because there are other people in front of me and when it’s my turn he will print it out for me. I then told him that it was supposed to be printed out before I got to the school as what we discussed. He didn’t care he told me I had to wait. I then waited for thirty minutes and told his receptionist that I didn’t want the study guide anymore and that I will be reporting [redacted] to Revdex.com.Desired Settlement: I want him to know that I did complain about his business and that I want him to email me the study guide that he promised he would pay.

Sincerely,

Review: This letter is to complain about service I recently received from a New York Medical Career Training services. As per the letter of the New York Medical Career Training, I agree with the fact that I did take the three exams. The reason why I decided to withdraw the program are the following: not enough hours of training, the hours of training are not enough to qualified for the [redacted] Technician Certification, did not cover everything offered on the brochures as what students will gain after completing the program, professors did not use the lab book as promised, too many misunderstanding regarding the time the class scheduling, etc.

According to the [redacted] Technicians and the [redacted] for Clinical Pathology in order to be eligible to become certified one must at least spend forty hours of classroom lecture on anatomy, physiology, and laboratory operation with a successful one hundred withdraws within the school under the supervision of the instructor. The school as offering an external internship but many students, including myself had a time conflict. I strongly believe that such practice must be done within the school. These associations agree that in order for a person to be considered fully experienced one must practice for at least thirty-five hours per week. On the other hand, the institution lacks the accreditation of the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science which is a requirement to become certified by any Phlebotomy valid association. The Phlebotomy Program offered by the New York Medical Career Training is a thirty-six hour long in total, as you can see in the schedule from their website that I have attached. The entire course including laboratory and lectures does not even meet the forty hours and that is including “lab practice” which was less than one hour per day because the professor or some students were late. A typical day in this class concluded of: three hours of lecture, one hour for lunch and one hour for practice on the dummies, even though we got to practice with our classmates, there were some students that did not know how to perform the draws. This is critically dangerous because patients’ lives depend on this draws and techniques.

The first day of class, May [redacted], 2015, I could not attend to class because I had a mathematics final as you can see in the [redacted] – Brooklyn Campus finals exam schedules for the Spring 2015 semester (you can confirm this information by going to he school website). Before the program started I contacted the coordinator to inform about my absence for that day and he said it was okay. The following day I went on time and I was told that the class was cancelled because the professor did not showed up, without any notice to the students. I claimed why I was not informed and the receptionist told I that I should have called the school before coming over. The next day, a substitute came to teach the class and when the professor that was supposed to teach the class from the beginning finally showed up she said that that material covered by the substitute was not important even though it was on the book that the school sold us. By the end of the first week the professor called in the morning to inform that she had sprained her ankle and will be back the next week. That day we had to wait for a couple hours until they find a professor to cover the class.

The course was taught by three different professors, with different method of teaching, different attitudes and teaching skills. By the end of the program I realized that I have wasted my money and most importantly my time buying the book because we were told that we did not need to reach the book because everything was going to be provide on the PowerPoint’s presentations. It completely makes sense because thirty-six hours are not enough to cover in depth a twelve-chapter phlebotomy textbook.

The New York Medical Career Training promised to future students that by the time students completed the course they will be able to perform the following as described on their brochure:

• Vacuum methods for various blood withdraws

• On autolet blood withdraw for glucose levels

• Proper use of micro hematocrit centrifuge

• Proper use of a hemogloginometer and obtain hemoglobin levels

• Proper use of glucometer to obtain glucose levels

Out of the listing we only practice the vacuum method for venous blood withdraws. I would like the institution to summit a video of the laboratory practices to prove that such services were offered and practiced in their facility. We never used microhematocri centrifuges, hemogloginometer to obtain hemoglobin levels or a glucometer to obtain glucose levels. Again, I insist I would like the “school” to provide proof of such services.

Needless to say, I was quite frustrated. I expected a much higher level of service from this institution, and I am quite disappointed. Because I do not want to spend any more time on this problem, I expect a full refund.Desired Settlement: Full refund.
