Newcomer Funeral Home & Cremation Services Reviews (2)

The reason I am rejecting this is all documentation was signed Laura not Lauren I will be taking this to the news since Newcomer is placing blame on my momEverything she signed was *** ***

Complaint ID: *** To Whom it May Concern: We are in receipt of your letter dated May 26, 2016, in which we have been notified of a complaint filed against the Newcomer Funeral Home, Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123. We have researched the matter and wish to
offer the following response. Abbreviations have been used in place of formal names, in order to avoid the use of any personally identifying information. Our Funeral Director Adam Byers met with “Mrs***.” on August 14, 2015, in our Grove City chapel to discuss preliminary design and arrangements for the purchase of a cemetery marker for her husband, who passed away in March 2015. On August 17, 2015, Ms*** returned to the funeral home to review and sign a proof of the marker design and sign a contract for the purchase and installation of the marker for $7,054.00. The signed proof includes initials “***” next to several items she would have specifically examined for accuracy, including the spelling on the marker. The signed document also indicates the purchaser shall be responsible for 50% of the costs of modification or replacement, provided the marker is installed and designed in accordance with the signed proof. Mrs***returned to the funeral home on September 9, 2015, again confirming the accuracy of spelling and acknowledgement of costs associated with modification or replacement with her signature. The Funeral Home proceeded to fulfill the order as specified in the signed contract and associated proofs. ***’s name was spelled the same way in all supporting documentation.Around November 30, 2015, we were notified by L.D.’s daughter (***) of the spelling problem with the marker, and MrBoffered to share 50% of associated costs, as stipulated on previously signed paperwork. An estimate for repair work was obtained reflecting $in total costs, with $to be the responsibility of the family and $to be responsible provided by the funeral home. At the time, it appeared that ***was comfortable with the arrangements. ***called the funeral home in early and was asking about the monument repair and what was the timeframe for the completion and spoke with funeral director, Eric B At this time, MrBbecame aware of the family’s concern with having to pay for any of the modification charges. Following consultation with a manager, MrBcalled ***back, advising her that in all other cases the family is responsible for half of the modification or replacement, but this time the funeral home would cover the anticipated $in costs. As the engraver began to prepare for the repair work in the spring of 2016, he shared with us concerns the patch may be more difficult than originally anticipated, due to the color of the stone. MrBcontacted an additional engraver for a second opinion, who also mentioned the same concerns for a patch repair but also offered an alternative repair method at a higher cost. Mr Bcalled ***on May 26, 2016, about the two options and costs associated with those options ***said that this was unacceptable and we needed to fix it. On the same date, he contacted Mrs***., as she was the original purchaser. He reviewed the options and she was displeased with the additional cost for the resurfacing option and ended the phone call before a final solution could be reached. We understand later that day, the complaint was submitted to the Revdex.com. During our time serving the family, we relied in good faith on all written and signed documentation needed to direct our work. All work was performed in accordance with that direction. Upon receiving new information which resulted in modifications being necessary, Newcomer associates made earnest efforts to propose solutions to the engraving, and communicated those options as quickly as possible, following the agreement set forth in the signed contract and proofs. I have not included supporting documentation, in order to protect the identity of the family. We are happy to provide that information at your request. It was an honor to serve this family, and we apologize for any frustration they experienced. We would like to continue to work toward a satisfactory resolution on this matter. Most sincerely,Mark G., Area Manager
