Review: False advertising and broken promises

Recently after visiting the Newport Beach area during our vacation and examining every possible and available option to make our recent visit to your rv resort acceptable, I am requesting a full refund. When I made the reservation for our family vacation on June 20th, 2014, at the “Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina is home to the premier RV Park and Marina in Southern California. Guests can enjoy the mile of beach front with swimming and a playground on the beach for the kids”, the employee falsely promised us:

• us a RV spot on “the beach”,

• where we would be able to keep our trailer at our camp site for our bikes and toys,

• where we would be within easy distance to our surfing lessons,

• well worth the extra expense for a beach site.

Following our arrival we learned that we were not spending nearly a thousand dollars to camp on the “beach” but to be in a small lagoon miles from the beach. We were immediately advised it would cost us extra to park our trailer in your storage lot. Following my request to speak to a manager, the storage fee was waived, but we were sad to start out our visit with a confrontation. We had discussed this with their employee and she assured us we could keep our trailer and a tent on our space for our bikes and equipment. Instead we had to store them outside at the site.

After we set up our campsite another rv came in next to us and put up a dog pen right next to our tent. The dogs were barking, escaping and running loose. Then the dogs peed through the fence onto our tent. It was awful.

We were miles from the beach with a ferry ride in between. The manager on duty advised us the route to the beach without the ferry was unsafe. We were not able to allow our teenage kids to go to the “beach” without our supervision due to the distance and fear for their safety.

We were not able to find another rv site in the area after our arrival everything was booked. It was awful.Desired Settlement: For them to please honor their resorts previous promise of an excellent vacation and refund our money.

In response to the letter we received from you regarding the above listed reference number. This

is the first time we have received a complaint from your bureau and wished the complaint would

have directed their dissatisfaction directly to us to resolve. But, now that they have we will

attempt to satisfy their complaint.

We do have a website where it shows our location and proximity to the ocean. We do have a

lagoon that is fed from the Pacific Ocean, but it is wave less. Our website shows under the

"What To Do" section the ocean and surfing possibilities. We do not advertise that you can surf

from our resort. We do have beach front RV sites and cottages for rent on our lagoon. On

weekends during the 4th of July the entire beach of Newport is very heavily visited and difficult

to get around, but the ferry is located just a few miles from our resort and is the best way to beat

traffic and crowds.

Guests do not always watch their pets and we cannot control where and when they allow their

animals to urinate. This is unfortunate, but clearly not in our control.

While we may agree to a refund of a night's stay we feel a full refund is a bit high since the guest

did have the option of finding other accommodations nearby. That amount would be $315.

They offered a refund of only one night's stay. He says they would only consider one night's refund since we were able to find another place to stay. However that was not true, I did inquire about moving out of Newport dunes and all of the other campsites in the area rv parks were full and it was near the 4th of July. We were stuck miles from the actual beach in a bug laden lagoon with dogs peeing on our tent and running through the our camp site. The kids could not swim in the "beach" at the resort as it was full of bugs that were biting them and causing welts. Our 16 yr old daughter's birthday vacation was DEFINITELY NOT WHAT THEY PROMISED TO US. The bottom line is that once again they have not fulfilled their promise and we have not received any type of refund. Could you please assist us in this matter? Is there something more we need to do?
