Newspaper Archive, Inc. Reviews (3)

I signed up for trial membership to see what I might be able to use in my genealogy research. I didn't see much I could use, but allowed that I might sign up later when I had time to look into it more. I called and cancelled before (much before) the trial membership ended and got an email verifying that I would not be charged, but was still auto-charged for continued access at the end of the trial period. I called and was assured I would be refunded, and after not seeing that refund, called again and again was reassured that the customer service department would get to it eventually.
After reading reviews from many with the same experience, I contacted my credit card company who quickly and courteously credited my account, blocked Newspaper Archives from auto-billing me again (which I understand has happened to others), and will open an investigation.
I hope all of this is errors/mistakes on the company's part and not deliberate attempts to take advantage of others.

Good experience- used 14 day free trial one and then canceled and received immediate confirmation of cancel. I was aware of the negative comments and wanted to add some balance. Wish they had a way to charge per search rather than ongoing membership. I would have gladly paid for my one search- found a 40 year old article from a small, now defunct newspaper.

In the interests of fairness, I would like to share my experience with Newspaper Archive dot com. I was led to contact the company after an unexpected charge appeared on my bank log. I attempted to phone the company and ended up being forced by the phone system to leave a message. When I saw the reviews here, my heart sank, and I spoke to my bank instead of expecting a fast resolution.

Imagine my surprise when the company called me back within 2 hours and swiftly resolved the issue, cancelling my account (I was done with my research), and apologizing profusely. I was also pleased with their customer service the one prior time I called them about a small issue.

Maybe they are working to improve their business. They said they are having tech glitches with their answering system while they upgrade.

I would probably subscribe again in the future if I have another historical research project. As it turned out, I had plenty of page views left in my basic 100 views/year subscription.
