You need very DEEP POCKETS if you go to this Veterinary center. I have taken my dog to Newtown Veterinary Specialists twice. The first time was for poisoning when she ate some rat poison, it was a weekend and they were the only place within a reasonable distance. Her treatment cost me about $600.00 To get her stomach pumped and a small bottle of vitamin K. She recovered from the poisoning, however they left a tight bandage on her leg which developed a pressure necrosis that was treated by another Veterinarian. I didn’t see it on her leg as the color matched her fur and it was hidden in her fur. The second time a year later she threw up, rolled over and started shaking as if she was having a seizure, and she was also listless and had stopped eating. After I brought her in on a Saturday afternoon and I was told that she needed a blood count, xray, and ultrasound so I consented to this in an attempt to find out what was wrong. After she was evaluated and I had racked up a thousand dollars in charges I was told that she was very sick, anemic, and in danger of passing away during the night so she needed to be hospitalized. The Veterinarian on duty handed me an estimate for her care for two days that amounted to over FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS! I sat there and cried as I knew this was unaffordable to me. I asked her if iron supplements would help and the Doctor told me no. So, I declined to leave her there and took her home with some medications that they gave me. I followed the instructions for the meds for a week, however my dog spit them out or threw them up every time. At that point I started to suspect that my dog had been poisoned by eating something so I started giving her Vitamin K, liquid B-12 which she lapped up because it was sweet, small doses of raw milk, 1/4 size bites of gummy vitamins and this all worked. My dog is now exhibiting her normal behavior and energy. Sometimes all the animal needs is vitamins and minerals, not medications that they will not tolerate. The problem with this clinic is that they are all about the money and try to sucker people by engaging in emotional blackmail. I find those techniques to be very unattractive but apparently it is something many veterinarians do to reach deep into our pockets. Why not provide care for reasonable prices rather than try to gouge people?

I came to this facility Sunday night, May 10, 2015 because of a medical emergency with my dog. They recommended that my dog be put down. He was very calm and not acting like he was in pain or like he was suffering in any way, so my fiancee and I decided that we wanted to take him home to be with him. We had every intention of coming back with him once he started showing visible signs of pain. We just didn't want his last moments and our last memories of him to be in a stupid vet ER room instead of at home. Obviously these people could not understand that. My dog made a miraculous recovery, never once showed any sign of pain or suffering and was up and moving around like nothing had even happened the next day. We did call Newtown Veterinary Specialists to ask what this might mean, and my fiancee even told them that we were going to take our dog in to our personal vet later that day. A few hours later, when we were literally about to leave to go see our vet, the POLICE/ANIMAL CONTROL shows up at our house asking about our ailing dog. How the hell would the police department know about my ailing dog? Obviously someone from the Newtown Veterinary Specialists' office contacted them. We kind of understood why... until my fiancee called their office on Monday and asked them about it. The response we got from the Newtown Veterinary Specialists was that they are legally not allowed to call the police/animal control on their customers/patients. Oh really? This incident happened late in the evening, the only other people that knew about this happening to our dog were our parents who live in other states, and there is absolutely no way one of them would call animal control on us because they love our dogs as much as we do and understood what we were going through. Obviously someone who knew that our dog was in bad condition and disagreed with our way to handle the situation called the police. The only people who knew about this incident and would disagree with their recommended treatment is ONE OF NEWTOWN VETERINARY SPECIALISTS' EMPLOYEES! If they are legally not allowed to report people to the police, please be aware that one of their employees is doing so. Like we weren't under enough stress and pain with our sick/dying dog and now we have to deal with the police at our door? Thanks a lot!

This place is horrible. They literally killed our dog and have only excuses. Our dog had ACUTE respiratory distress from Acute Aspiration Pneumonia. She had been "highjacked" by another Mobile vet for 5 days prior to being "dumped" off at Newtown Vet Specialists. I was frantic, driving just before huge snow storm, to finally be reunited with my dog in a place I had never been [and hope to never return] called Newtown Vet Specialists. They kept me waiting for an hour after haggling with me earlier in the day to get my CREDIT CARD before they would admit her [being dumped off by the most horrible vet in the world, Curbside Vet, who neglected our dog and never provided the standard of care that any decent vet would give... but then dumps her off when he panics].
Newtown was terrible to my dog. When I finally saw her, she was collapsed in a cage that was in a very busy corner of the hospital and a constantly barking dog in the next kennel.
I asked to have her moved to another kennel that was empty [many were empty] away from the yapping dog, and the very rude nurse said "Well, this is a hospital."
Well, you Ignorant "Blob", this is supposed to be a hospital for very critically ill animals, and most are not yapping.
I asked, specifically, for Oxygen [as per all of the medical journals/articles] and was argued with by Dr. Porter who tried to justify not giving her Oxygen.
I was all alone, it was turning dark with a storm looming in a few hours, and I was "stonewalled" with every question I had for my dog's care.
I regret not demanding, and becoming very Loud and STRONG in the face of absolute apathy and ignorance/not really caring people...
My husband was more than two hours away in NYC and very busy in meetings, and I felt cornered and overwhelmed.
Do NOT let them do this to you or your pet!
Get to a VCA Hospital, or a better hospital.
