As owner of Next Step Contracting, I am certainly disappointed the homeowner feels the way she does as customer...

satisfaction is one of our main priorities. Next Step Contracting has never had a complaint filed with the Revdex.com. With that said, I completely disagree that her concerns were not handled promptly and fairly. For clarity, Next Step Contracting was not hired by the insurance company as the homeowner indicated. Next Step was hired by the homeowner. Her claims were addressed as follows: 1) While the floors sustained damage at some point during the project, the floors were already slated to be repaired under the insurance scope of work. There were no additional out of pocket charges for any further scratches to the floor. 2) We were not made aware of any damage to a door frame and therefore cannot comment on that matter. 3) All electric work was done to code by a licensed electrical contractor. The work was performed with the proper permits and was approved via city inspector upon completion. 4) The air conditioning unit was removed as per the insurance company scope of work. The individual who removed the unit does not recall having any conversation with the homeowner. Beyond that, he is not certified in HVAC and would not have experience to make the claim of suitability. In addition, the homeowner would not have "saved" $3,000 as she claimed if the unit remained. She simply would have received $3,000 less from the insurance company. 5) Due to the decision of the homeowner, Next Step's job duties did not progress to the point where it needed to procure a city license or additional permits. Next Step holds the required liability and worker's compensation insurance policies and would have qualified for a city license, had one been necessary at that time. I explained to the homeowner that it is standard policy to pursue licenses within a given city upon hitting certain job milestones. It is not practical or possible to be licensed in every single municipality in the greater St. Louis metro area at all times. 6) The dumpster company admitted liability with respect to the home's driveway and $2,000 was previously credited to the homeowner's bill as a result. 7) There was never a threat made toward the homeowner in any fashion. Although it is my company's right to file a lien against the property it is my hope that I would not need to resort to that.
It is my company's job to repair the home to its original condition as per the insurance company's scope of work and be reimbursed through the use of insurance proceeds. All repair work included in the insurance company's scope of work was paid for by the insurance company and those repair funds were mailed directly to the homeowner. Although Next Step performed approved work under the insurance scope, we were not fully reimbursed for our services. It is my belief that this is a clear case of a homeowner attempting to profit from an insurance claim.
