Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because:
For the record, MrT*** never
told me he had an hourly rate. In the past, he's always given me a flat fee for the work upfront when I asked. I just did not ask this time. For example, he came to replace a faucet and asked for $up front. He fixed my front door and asked for $up front. He replaced a light fixture for $50, also the up front asking price. There was no hourly rate eve===r mentioned. So, how can he all of a sudden be talking of an hourly rate
MrT*** kept the tool that he
bought from H&S. He did not give it
to me. So, of course he didn't charge me
for it
He never said there was mold and
mildew around the tub. There was very
little signs of this. Caulking a tub
should have been a quick job, but it took minutes. I had already told him a few times that the
job was taking much longer than I thought, and I needed to go to work. Regardless, he should have told me the cost upfront if it was going to be $
To use MrT***'s words, he says
he's known for 'professional
workmanship in a timely manner'. Yet, he acknowledges that a simple cartridge
replacement and caulking took hours.
He acknowledges that he did not have the tools to remove the cartridge
(which I believe, as a professional, he should have had).
How was I to expect that to be the case and to pay for this? MrT*** did NOT have the proper tools, so he was very slow in diagnosing the problem, obtaining the proper tools, replacing
the cartridge, and caulking the tub.
Furthermore, he had to come back because the problem was not corrected
completely (the hot and cold were switched).
Again, this is not timely workmanship. And
this is more time I had to take off work to be there
Finally,
I 'raised my voice' because he was in the parking lot at his van and would not
have heard me otherwise. I was in no way
angry or yelling. I was very calm

Please find my response to [redacted]'s complaint. On Thursday February 25, 2016, I received a call from [redacted] regarding a leaky shower in her MBR bathroom tub. I scheduled an appointment with her for 9a, February 26, 2016 to repair the  leaky shower. For the record, my labor rate...

is $65 per hour. The problem turned out to be a faulty shower faucet cartridge.  As I was removing the cartridge, the inner cylinder portion came out, leaving the outer ring inside the pipe. At this point I went to [redacted] to secure a tool to remove the ring. [redacted] did not have the ring I needed. I then went to [redacted] in Herndon and was able to get the correct tool to remove the cartridge shell. (There was no additional charge to [redacted] for this tool). I then went back to [redacted] to purchase the proper faucet cartridge. (There was a $20 charge to [redacted] for this part) Once the faucet was repaired and verified by [redacted], I put the faucet back together. At this time I pointed out to [redacted] that the caulking around her tub showed signed of mold and mildew. I then inquired if she wanted me to replace the caulking. She said yes and I proceeded to complete the task. It took approximately 90 minutes to remove the old caulking and mold and then thoroughly clean the area before applying the new caulk. After I finished with caulking, I asked [redacted] to inspect the work on both the shower faucet and the caulking. She gave her immediate approval of the job. (Please note it was about 4:30p by now; I had been working on this job since 9am -7.5 hrs.) [redacted] had expressed earlier concern over her water being turned off. I assured her that I would fix the faucet before I left and her water back on that day. After she gave her approval for the work completed she asked how much would she be charged. I responded $185. She paid me in cast: $190. At the moment I didn't have the $5 in change and I told her I owed her the $5. The last comment I made to her that afternoon was to let the caulk set for 24 hours and Contact me if any problems arose. Several days later she called to say the hot and cold water wereswitched. I scheduled another appointment with her for Friday, March 4 after 2pm, to assess the problem. When I arrived to assess the problem and to rotate the cartridge, I double checked the operation of the faucet. It worked fine but the faucet handle could be rotated 360 degrees instead of 45 degrees to the left for hot or 45 degrees to the right for cold. I then checked the faucet in her hallway bathroom, which was identical to the one I repaired and it operated the same. I told [redacted] what I found and that the cartridge was fine. I then demonstrated the correct operation of both faucets to her and had her to operate them too. As I was preparing to give [redacted] her $5 charge from the previous visit, she confronted me about the charge of $185 for my services rendered. At no time was I disrespectful or unprofessional towards [redacted]. However I felt $185 was a fair price for all the services and repairs I performed. After some discussion and consideration since [redacted] had been a long time customer, I refunded $35 to her. [redacted] continued to adamantly address the cost of the job and insisting on more of a refund. She then indicated that she could no longer recommend me to others. I responded that I was sorry she felt that way and immediately exited her house. As I was getting into my van, [redacted] opened her front door and raised her voice and said I couldn't perform anymore handyman tasks for her unless I returned an additional $80 to her.In conclusion my quality of my services is well known in the local community for fair pricing, promptness, and professional workmanship in a timely manner. To that end, I will not be refunding any additional money to [redacted].Respectfully submitted,James ** T[redacted]NGOMA Homeworks Handyman Services
