On 4-16-2012 I had an eye exam performed by Dr. Nelson Hassell and I placed an order for a "new" pair of prescription eyeglasses. Approximately 10 days later I was informed that my new glasses were ready for me to pick up. After roughly 2 weeks of using the new eyeglasses I contacted Dr. Nelson Hassell assistant and informed her that the new lenses (bi-focal) were making me feel dizzy, nactious, and that my vision was impaired. I requested a replacement pair of lenses that did not contain the bi-focal. The assistant told me that since I was using Title 19 (Medicaid) insurance that their office would not be willing to replace the lenses for me at no cost and that my insurance would not pay for an additional pair of lenses. I proceeded to tell her that I was not satisfied with the lenses and that the doctors office should replace the lenses for free as they were making me ill and that I could not utilize them the way that they were. The assistant told me that if I were a "regular paying customer" that they "would have" replaced the lenses for free but since I was using the Title 19 (Medicaid) insurance I did not have this option available to me. She proceeded to adjust the frames of the glasses for me which upon completion completely negated the use of the "nose-pads" on the frame and the frame itself was resting on the bridge of my nose. I pointed this out to the assistant and she said that if I wanted the bi-focal adjusted properly that this is the only way that she could do it. Later that same week I told the assistant that I had written a letter of complaint to the doctor and she said "he does not care" and stated that "she" had already received the letter herself. I feel that I have been treated with prejudice due to my use of the Title 19 Medicaid Insurance. The assistant stated herself that "If I were a regular paying customer that the lenses would have been replaced for free". It also appears by her statements to me that the doctor was not even informed about my concerns.
