Sunoco hereby provides the following response to the above referenced complaint regarding an alleged fuel contamination at Sunoco #located at *** *** ***, Watertown, NYSunoco currently owns the subject location, which it purchased in June of Sunoco was made aware of this
customer complaint on April 20th and reached out to the customer by phone on April 21stThe Sunoco representative apologized for not being able to speak to the customer sooner, and suggested that he have a mechanic check his vehicle because the customer claimed that the “Check Engine” light had been flashing since he purchased fuel from the Sunoco station and that he had continued to drive the vehicleThe Sunoco representative also explained that the station has constant monitoring in place which would alert the station to water in the fuel, and that the station manager physically checks the underground storage tanks for water on a weekly basis as a basystem to the electronic monitoringAfter having his vehicle checked by a mechanic, the customer contacted Sunoco again and advised that his mechanic had found water in the fuel in the customer’s vehicleThe Sunoco representative suggested the possibility that someone had tampered with his fuel tank, as one of many possible reasons for water in his tankThis statement was made based on the results of the investigation into the available facts: 1) there were no water issues in the fuel at the station as determined by Sunoco’s water monitoring process2) the dispensers at the station are equipped with filters as a safeguard in the event of a water/fuel issue3) the Sunoco station served several hundred other customers on the same day the customer purchased fuel with no complaintsThe Sunoco representative was at all times respectful and did not hang up on the customerWhile Sunoco sympathizes with the customer’s situation, the evidence does not support that water was introduced into the customer’s fuel due to his Sunoco fuel purchaseNonetheless, this alleged gas contamination incident was reported to Sunoco’s Insurance Company, ESIS, Incon April 21, The assigned claim representative spoke to the customer on April 24, After investigating the allegations, it was determined that the fuel sold to the customer was not contaminated, and the claim was denied on April 27, based on the following: (1) The station’s fuel was checked for waterThe station operates using *** *** water sensing filtersThese filters are designed to stop flow upon the presence of water content in fuelThis did not and has not occurred at this location on or after the date of the customer’s purchase(2) This Sunoco location sold 2,gallons of regular fuel on the date of the customer’s purchase and no other complaints were reported(3) The customer did not at any time provide a fuel sample to Sunoco or any documentation of what was found by the mechanicGiven the evidence as outlined above, Sunoco, as well as its insurer, cannot support settlement of the customer’s claimPlease do not hesitate to contact me at ###-###-#### should you have additional questions or concernsSincerely, Ginny MLiability Claims Manager

Review: The diesel fuel they sell has a high concentration of gasoline in it.Desired Settlement: Payment for the repairs to my truck as well as the fuel put in.
