The company personnel were polite and knowledgeable! The job was completed safely, on time, on budget and the work-site was always left tidy at the end of each shiftExcellent workmanship thank you!

Woodcraft designed, built and installed my kitchen and three full bathrooms. Upon completion of the installation, I complained to Rana, owner of Woodcraft, that the laminate seam line is too close to the kitchen sink (a consistent 17cm distance between the two right across the counter top) and the proximity to the water will decrease the integrity of the glue used to glue the laminate to the countertop board. I was told at the time not to worry and that he will be around in 25 years, and therefore, to contact him should it lift. Shortly after speaking with Rana, I had a cabinet maker come to the house to work on something else, but thought I should ask his opinion about the proximity of the seam to the sink; he too, said that it is too close. I called Rana about this and he said not to worry. Working with trust, I moved on, but in the meantime, tried to preserve the integrity of the glue as much as possible by keeping the area clear of water by placing a glass cutting board over the seam to protect the space. The cutting board was never used as a cutting board, but as a protector for the seam. I also avoided placing anything that was wet that would allow water to seep into the seam. However, despite my due diligence to protect the seam, about 3 to 4 years ago I noticed the board lifting by about 1mm. Due to the reception I received from Rana the first time, I thought I should wait for it to get really bad should I want to show it to him since he dismissed my concerns the first time around. Now that more time has passed, the laminate has totally lifted and I thought I should now contact Rana as it is now truly bad.
After many months of back and forth communications and one site visit from his worker, Farooq, I had a face to face meeting with them (Rana and Farooq) today (July 13th, 2016). When I was told that the cost to fix it would be [redacted] plus GST (excluding costs associated with retiling any tiles that fall out during the repair, plumber's cost to remove and reinstall the sink, etc.). I was beside myself - the exclusions they mentioned could add up in costs in addition to what I have to pay to Woodcraft to repair their subpar installation job. I told both Rana and Farooq that I was not happy with a mere offer to take off [redacted] from Woodcraft's bill but proceed anyway. I was given tile samples to take home and to email them the matching one.
I did not understand why I have to pay for something that was made in error in the first place. Had Woodcraft not place a seam so close to the sink, this would be a moot issue. Furthermore, Farooq wanted me to commit without paperwork or drawings, and I said I am not committing blindly and insisted on having drawings as where the seam would be, I was told then told it is possible to have the seam elsewhere - which begs the question as to why this was not considered the first time around? However, as history does repeat itself, Woodcraft is not good on its word. Woodcraft contacted me two hours after I sent them an email confirming which laminate to order, they rescinded their offer to do anything and recommended that I ask another company to fix a problem that they created. They now say the following: you should not have paid us the full amount until it was done right, you should have contacted us within the first year to which I responded - I trusted you, so I paid you in full; I did contact you not within the first year, but within the first week about the seam. Furthermore, no drawings were provided to me as to where the seam would go, no written time line of their guarantee was provided to me, and to top it all off, they claim to have lost my file. They however, remember how meticulous I was in dealing with them.
Word of Warning: Do not use Woodcraft if you hope for your kitchen to last longer than 7 years. If you want a kitchen to last longer than 7 years, do yourself a favor by choosing another company. Should you decide to use Woodcraft, protect yourself - get everything in writing and do not believe anything that is promised without in being in black and white. I was naïve to trust. Please contact me at [redacted].com if you have questions or concerns about my dealing with Woodcraft Kitchens in Calgary. I am planning to take this matter to the media to protect others like myself from being conned.
