No Hassle Fence Reviews (%countItem)

I hired *** (the owner) of No Hassle Fence and paid him $12,315 for a highend fence project for a 2 million dollar home at ***. The quality of the fence boards are so cheap they cracked and split within a few months (in my case Feb-May) from install. I contacted him via text and voicemail over 5 times starting in June to come look at what was happening. No response until finally Sept 5, 2019 when I copied other people on the text chain. When he finally responded he claimed he had been out of town for weeks. I gave him every opportunity to back his work since he told me "he has no warranty on the manufactured products" although his website clearly says he warranties all manufacturer's products. But to me personally he explains he doesn't warranty his wood which is a manufactured product created into planks that he buys from a manufacturer. He also wouldn't fix where nails are missing or his installer shot the nails too close to the edge of the boards which also split some of the boards. I even sent him my screen shots of the texts that were indeed sent to him from in June-Sept. that he claims he never got, in addition contacted *** to see if they can get the call evidence and they can as I tried to get ahold of him for months starting in June 2019. On top of the defective work, he belittles the client and in my case he blamed all the split boards on 4 months of over 100 degree in Denver from Feb-May which of course 100 degree days never happened. Also nails were missing, boards bowed and he will not fix any of it. Finally Sept 20th after I finally started emailing him about this coping my building contractor also, he agreed to come look at all the issues. But he started screaming at me again that all the problems are because of the 100 degree heat from Feb-May in Denver which is ridiculous. He also got in a yelling match with my neighbor when he first started the project which was so bad I had to go and apologize for his conduct. And the final straw today was when he got very defensive and aggressive when we showed him the neighbors 10 year old fence that looks great no split boards. He yelled out his car window that I am crazy in front of other witnesses and sped off. When I got back to my office I looked up his reviews for this year to find a lot of people have claimed the same situation. It is very clear that all of these bad reviews are warranted for his bad quality of work and lack of professional responses. I am asking for a refund of the rework and restain of the new boards that need to be replaced which will be around $3500. I also want to say that he really scared me this morning when he started yelling at me infront of witnesses and saying derogatory comments to me as a female. I can't even imagine how many other females he has gotten into altercations with bullying them and talking down to them when he clearly knows he is in the wrong.

Warranty and manufactured product: As I have tried multiple times to explain to *** a manufactured product is a man made product that is "manufacture" and thus comes with a manufacture's warranty. Example: Trex composite fencing, Ameristar steel fencing, Vinyl fencing are all manufactured(man-made) and come with manufactures warranty. These are products we do and can warranty. Natural wood such as cedar is not manufactured. It is a naturally grown product(it's a tree). We don't warranty it, neither do any of the other 10 fence companies I called or the 3 major cedar wholesale suppliers that all of us fence companies get our cedar from. She claims we use cheap cedar. All of us fence companies get the same cedar from the same 3 wholesale suppliers and the wholesale suppliers get the cedar from the same cedar mills in Canada and northwest US. So to claim we use cheap cedar make no sense. In fact, unlike a lot of companies we don't show up to a project with just enough cedar to do that project> We show up with a full truck load and hand sort through every piece of wood before we install it to make sure there are not cracks or warps in the wood.

There is no deception in our website about our warranty. It clearly states we honor manufactures warranties. It's common sense that wood/cedar is a tree and thus doesn't have a warranty. Even though we nor any of the other 10 fence companies I called warranty cedar from warping, cracking or splitting after it's been installed we all agree that if picket warped or cracked within few days or even a week we would replace it as a courtesy. This is not the case with this project for the simple fact that there were no warped of split boards when we built the fence in January or any short time period after the fence was completed and I do a have a picture of the fence to show this. The fence was built January 10th and we were not contacted about any warped or split boards until 9 months later on Sept 5th. We have no record of any voicemails from her. We have not one email from her and we have the email thread to prove this. We have no text from her and we have the text chain to also show that prior to Sept 5th her last text to us was January 10th. Even if she had contacted us back in May or June as she claims this is still not a warrantied product in any way shape or form. Since we do multiple projects for her general contractor on this project and he is the one who referred her to us there would be no reason to not respond to her emails, text or calls except for the simple fact that we didn't get any calls, emails or text until the Sept 5th text. And yes, I was out of town on vacation for a few weeks but like everyone else voicemails, text and emails still work when I'm on vacation and we have none prior to Sept 5th.

This fence has been exposed out the elements of full winter and record breaking summer heat with no stain or sealant protector of any kind for 8-9 months until just last month when it was finally stained. We explained to *** back in November prior to starting the project and again after fence was completed that since it faces west and south with direct sun exposure that she should get the fence stained/protected. She ignored our suggestion until sometime late this summer.

During our meeting the other day she made many insulting accusations all in regards to pickets splitting or warping and in one instance about a very large 2x6 top cap board that had supposedly warp and peeled up so bad that one of her workers had to nail it back down. For a 2" thick board to do this is unheard of and when she pointed out which board it was it looked perfectly straight but her response to that was that they straightened it out and hammered it back down. I then climbed up on top of the fence and saw only our ring shanked galvanized nails that we use with our nail guns when we built the fence 9 months ago and there were no hammer marks anywhere on the board that she claimed had warped up so bad they had to hammer it down. I can tell you from 18 years experience if a 2" thick board warps in the dry Colorado climate so bad that it lift away from the wood it's nailed to there is no nailing it back down into a perfectly straight board again and certainly not without leaving so very large and deep hammer marks in the wood. During our meeting *** kept pointing out pickets that were split and every time I tried to explain to her that this was from the boards drying out and shrinking in the dry heat she would interrupt me and move on to another picket with the same issue. She also kept calling me a liar when I told her that her fence was completed in the beginning of January even though she kept yelling at me telling me it was done at the February. After walking the 300 feet of fence with her looking at over 900 pickets that we installed there was only 1 picket that was missing 2 nails at the bottom. I told her we would take care of that because that's a workmanship warranty issue. This issue has already been taken care of earlier today. At the end of all this the simple fact is we don't warranty any natural wood products and neither do any of our competitors once they are installed on a fence.

Half way through the meeting it was obvious that she wasn't going to let me speak or recognize any of what I was trying to explain to her so I attempted to speak to her adult son/business partner who was there with us but she just kept yelling at me and interrupting me and he refused to say one word the entire meeting. Realizing that she wasn't going to listen to anything I was telling her and she was just going to keep yelling at me as if she knew more about wood and fencing than anyone else on earth I ended the meeting by telling her we would take care of those 2 missing nails and I would email her. As I was sitting in my car I scrolled through my phone quickly so that I could show her the text she sent me on January 10th in regards to the fence being done and the picture I took dated January 11th of the finished fence. I once again tried one last time to show her she was incorrect about a lot of things starting first and foremost with her time line of the start and completion date of the fence. Once again she refused to look at the proof on my phone and just continued to call me a liar. I was in such shock or her accusations that after our meeting I contacted her general contractor who has been working on her fix and flip since last year and is also the person who referend her to us and who we also do a lot of work for. He informed me that *** has had an issue with almost every sub contractor that has worked on her project and that working with her had gotten so bad that he actually sent her a termination letter to end his general contractor duties on her project.

This is just the type of person she is. She thinks she knows everything about everything and when confronted with proof of the truth her response is to call you a liar and threaten you and your business with lawsuits etc.

Firstly, I did not hire this company to perform fence repairs, my neighbor did. More importantly, I did not give authorization for No Hassle Fence to enter my property at any time. Despite this, No Hassle Fence entered my backyard through a partially secured gate to perform fence repairs that could have been made from the property of the neighbor who hired No Hassle Fence and proceeded to trample and kill several annual and mature perennial plantings, completely cut a soaker hose used for irrigation, used water from my property without authorization and left my backyard a complete mess. Furniture was moved and not returned, the dirt removed from post hole diggings made by No Hassle Fence was either thrown on my patio or piled and left beside the hole locations and cement powder spilled in numerous places. An interior rug I was in the process of cleaning was on the patio and No Hassle Fence employees carelessly put their buckets on it as evidenced by the rings of spilled cement powder left on the rug. It took repeated attempts by my neighbor to contact the owner of No Hassle Fence about the damage to my property before he responded. While he apologized for the mess, he took no responsibility for the damage.
The unprofessionalism and disrespect displayed by this company is appalling.

No Hassle Fence Response • Aug 21, 2019

We were hired by ***'s neighbor(***) to repair the "shared" fence that is own and used by both the *** and *** and that was leaning into ***'s yard about to fall over. We were also hired by the *** to do additional work in his front yard which would require multiple trips over a few week or so to complete the project. Setting of the posts was just the first step in a multi step process. Since the posts are in ***'s yard on ***'s side of the fence the repaired need to be done on ***'s side of the fence. We informed the *** of this when we gave the estimate and when the job was contracted. We were told by *** that he had spoken to the *** about the repair and the process of needing to do from inside her yard in order to do it correctly and we were all clear to proceed with doing the work. Prior to sending crew out to do the work we notified *** a week in advance and then again contacted him early the morning of to let him know crew would be out in the afternoon to do the work(notified around 9am or 10am crew arrived around 4pm) When crew arrived they accessed ***'s yard as planned through her front gate that was not lock and only latch closed with a spring clip(it was not locked). Once in the back yard the crew saw that nothing had be moved away from fence for them to do the work. This is a very small back yard in Baker neighborhood and this repair for 4 new posts was confined to a 20 feet fence line only about a foot or so wide. In this very confined and cramped area was a shed just a foot or two away from fence, There was furniture, there were porcelain statues/figurines. There were pet graves and tombstones also along the fence line. Then there were numerous small plants/grasses/weeds etc. Crew carefully moved all the furniture away from fence without damaging any of it. Crew carefully moved porcelain figurines and statues away from fence. Crew did not disturb any of the pet graves or tombstones(obvious plants and grasses can't be moved). In regards to any grasses/plants they may have been stepped on: There simple wasn't anywhere to actually stand to do the work without stepping on something. Crew moved everything away from the fence line without any damage. To do the job properly required 4 holes dug 2 feet deep almost a foot in diameter removing over100lbs of dirt from each hole and then bringing in over 500 lbs of concrete to set the new posts. This is not something that can be done without disturbing some plants/grasses in the area that required the work to be done in. Not only was nothing moved away from fence for crew to do the job but we were never informed that there was a drip line in that area. At no time during the 10 days prior to crew showing up to do the work did *** or *** contact us to inform us of any drip line or of any issues we would encounter when trying to set posts in her confined and congested small area. *** also has never called us or contacted us in anyway. Not prior to work starting, during or after. After we set the posts we did receive an email from *** with an email explaining ***'s concerns and that she did not want us on her property again to remove the temporary support that had been placed against the fence so that the concrete could dry over the weekend. We did email a response back to *** explaining the situation we encounter in doing the work. In response to our email *** informed us that he to had never been informed by *** of any of her furniture. statues, graves, tombstones, planting etc that would be an issue in doing the job we were contracted to do. In regards to a rug: I was not there to see the rug in question but I'm pretty sure that if the rug was laying on ***'s patio area outside as she describes I'm sure nobody would have know it was an indoor rug and not to be stepped on. My thinking would be its in outdoor patio rug like so many other we come across during our daily work in back yards. In regards to any concrete dust that may has spilled that our crew overlooked along with dirt from the holes. We were only setting the posts that day and are scheduled to return this week to finish remaining work in ***'s front yard and at that time were would be removing the temporary supports and cleaning up anything that was overlooked in ***'s yard the day the crew set the posts. Per explained in our contract he dirt would have been spread and disbursed around the yard at the time crew set the new posts but since neither *** or *** were home when crew was there doing the work to instruct the crew where to spread the dirt and we could not reach *** by phone the dirt piles were left for crew to disburse upon returning this week to wrap up the project. I would also like to mention that per our contract(like most if not all fence companies)we are not responsible for private underground lines. For the simple fact that if we are not informed where a buried private line is we have no idea one is. To be clear: *** has never contracted us and through and email to *** has told us not to return to her property to collect our temporary posts supports or to do any final clean up. I believe there were 4 posts supports used at a cost of $25 each. That's $100 worth of supports we are entitled to get back. All this could have been avoided if *** would have just called us prior to us arriving to do the work and since she did not and now there are issues I'm sure the current issues could probably have been resolved once again if she had just called us.

As I stated in previous email. This is a fence that both *** and *** share(it divides their backyards). The posts are on ***'s side of the fence and thus the repair of adding new support posts properly needed to be done on her side of the fence. This was explained to *** when we gave the estimate and is even written in the contract he approved, which I can supply as proof if need be. Prior to scheduling the work *** informed us via email that he spoke to *** and got approval from *** to enter her yard and do the repair from her side of the fence(I can also provide this proof of emails if need be). As for the drip/water line. It might be apparent to *** that their was a line in that area because it's her yard and she knows where things are covered up or buried but with all the statues, furniture, graves, headstones, bushes etc in this very small confined area it was not noticeable or obvious to our crew that there was any line there until they attempted to dig the first holes and hit the line. At that time the line was pulled up out of the way.

Customer Response • Sep 11, 2019

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
My neighbor finally admitted he told *** that he could access my property to repair the fence even though I had done no such thing. Even though *** was operating under the mistaken belief he had permission to be on my property, it does not excuse the damage to my property caused by him and his team and the mess they left for me to deal with. *** has made no effort to amicably resolve the situation and merely gives excuses and tries to justify his actions. While my yard is not large by any means, it is also not the postage stamp size hoarder situation he would have you believe. His team could have made the repairs with care and not damaged my property in the process. I have cleaned up my yard, removed the dead plants and tried to purchase replacements, but given the time of year, I was unable to find replacement plants and will have to wait for next spring. Also, despite ***'s claim regarding the soaker hose, I reiterate it was laying on the surface of the dirt and in plain view - more unfounded excuses by ***. I will drop my demand for restitution, but I hope you will take this company's actions and lack of accountability into account when you provide a rating.

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,

***
