Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because not one piece of the project was ever completed. Looking at the money paid vs. es[redacted]ate vs. work done breakdown, $1000 is the minimum amount required to complete the work that was left unfinished.
Below please also see the email chain, including my most recent response to the Contract on 4/14 at 9:51 AM EST

Good afternoon,    [redacted] I understand the [redacted]ing and delay of your project. The [redacted]ing itself I couldn't make work. As far as reimbursement I will reimburse you roughly $600 for unfinished items in the kitchen but that is it. As to the bathroom you guys paid [redacted] directly not me so you can contact him to that project. I'm currently in [redacted] till the 18th and when I return I will send the check..Sent from my [redacted]

$600 is not acceptable. We took a look at the detailed breakdown of money paid vs. your es[redacted]ates vs. the work completed. There is not one component that you worked on that was ever fully completed.  I have re-iterated this to you many [redacted]es via email, phone and texts, which were all obviously ignored. It will take at a minimum $1,000 to complete the work that was not done, so please send a check for $1,000.
With regards to the money that we paid [redacted] for the down payment of the bathroom, you were our contractor and advised us to pay him, so you should tell [redacted] how much of a refund he needs to send us. We understand that the demolition comes with a cost, one that we es[redacted]ated at $900, so you should tell [redacted] to confirm this number and send us the remaining $1,100.
We worked with you in good faith and set expectations on the materials that we will use from before we even closed on the home. This commitment was never held up on your end. It seemed that ever since we brought [redacted] into the fold (he is licensed, so I'm not sure where you are getting this from), you decided to ignore us. You are correct, I delayed the bathroom project for two weeks so that we can bring in an additional plumber (your friend), to quote us on a price, an approach that you agreed with at the [redacted]e. If you had any issues or concerns with the [redacted]ing, there was a [redacted]e and place to discuss this and that was 2 months ago. We even discussed the [redacted]ing of when the bathroom demo should take place because we were concerned with the fact that our infant daughter sleeps in our room with us. This was a fact that we discussed many [redacted]es, one that you acknowledged and stated that you will try and get this done for us in two weeks.
It is unfortunate that the only response we were able to get from you was through the Revdex.com. For two months, my phone calls, texts and emails have all gone unanswered. In those communications I even mentioned that we understand you are busy so you would just need to give us an indication that you cannot get to it and we will move on. Frankly, if I knew that I could get a response from you within a half hour, I would have tried the Revdex.com a long [redacted]e ago so we could have parted ways earlier.
Please send the check in the mail when you return from your [redacted]e in [redacted]. I will close out the complaint once I receive and cash the checks from both you and [redacted].
Thanks,
[redacted]
Sincerely,
[redacted]

I have spoke with the homeowner ([redacted]) and have notified him about his refund. Also [redacted] is another contractor all together. Not a sub contractor to me. I did however give him the painting job and he did get the bathroom job from [redacted] as [redacted] has paid [redacted] directly.

Hi [redacted],   We tentatively agreed on an amount a few weeks ago. I am not comfortable closing the complaint until I receive the check and cash it.   Thanks, [redacted]

Review: In November 2014, my wife and I contracted [redacted] to complete some work on our newly purchased home. There were a few projects that we asked him to complete, which were started, paid for and never completed. We paid him the balance of one project to "close this out," and a down payment for another, which are both incomplete. We have been unsuccessful in contacting him for a refund of the money that should have been used to close out the project and begin another. For the last few months we have tried many different ways to contact him (phone, text, email, through another contractor, etc.) and have been unsuccessful in getting in touch with him. Here's the latest email, which is very similar to the first few, explaining the breakdown of money paid vs. completed work:

[redacted],

I haven't heard from you in a few weeks so I figured it's better to just send a note. Seeing as the kitchen was never finished and the bathroom work was never started, we are expecting to get our money back. I understand that there was some work done after the money was paid, so here's how I'm calculating that money that we are expecting back:

Kitchen - We wrote you a check for $2k the last [redacted]e you were here. You said that this would be the total to close out the work on the kitchen. That day you needed to run out and pick up some more white tile. You mentioned the cost of that was $600 for the box. The $1,400 was to go to the rest of the kitchen, including: hanging the range hood, grouting the tile wall, installing the new outlets, installing the dishwasher, adding fillers, finishing painting the walls and touching up the floor grout. This was not finished.

Bathroom - We gave you a deposit of $2k for the remodeling of the master bathroom. The only thing that was done was the work by [redacted]'s guys to demo the existing bathroom, cut up the sub-floor and provide the materials for the new sub-floor. I could imagine that the effort on that would cost somewhere between $750 & $1,000. That leaves a total of around $1k, to be conservative.

We've been very understanding with the fact that you are a busy guy and have been willing to work with you on that. We've even been living in a kitchen-less house with a newborn for the last 6 months to show that we were willing to let you do your thing. It's [redacted]e now that we just cut ties and it's only fair that we get our $2,400 back for the work that was never done. To be honest, that's not a small chunk of money to just give away when you are supporting a family six.

You can feel free to mail or drop off the check before the end of the month. Let me know if this will be a problem or if we should talk further about next steps. As always, you can reach me at [redacted].

Thanks,

[redacted]Desired Settlement: As I've noted in the email to him, we never rushed the project and were more than understanding when other projects were lined up. We have been living in a house with no kitchen and sleeping in a bedroom that is an un-finished construction site. We even instructed him that once we demolish the bathroom, we need to work quick because our baby sleeps in the bedroom with us. It is not safe for her to sleep in a room where there's an unfinished construction site with debris. I have pictures to show the conditions that the house was left in. We have had no choice but to begin the work ourselves. With that said, all we want is our money back, which I've detailed at $2,400, not a penny more and not a penny less. I've called, texted and emailed this to him throughout the last few months. We just want to cut ties and would rather not go to small claims court if we do not have to.

Response:

A refund is in the mail of $600 only and only that amount will be refunded. Another contractor was given $2000 to start the bathroom project and [redacted] the homeowner keep a delay on the project by looking for a non licensed plumber which delayed the project even more. [redacted] cabinets had to be built individualy which took up more [redacted]e the expected. At no extra charge. To the items not conpleted I have apologized and am willing to refund that and only that if $600. As far as the child living in the bedroom where the bathroom is is untrue, the child does have her own room. Regardless I understand the delay and unfortunate [redacted]ing the the project but as to the "bathroom" no money was exchanged to myself or my company. The other company has been waiting on [redacted] to respond so that they may complete their arrangements.
