Norkus Foodtown Reviews (1)

Review: On May 20th I went to the Stop and Shop in West End, Long Branch and purchased several pounds of their Atlantic Salmon. Later that evening, I cooked some of it. Before cooking, I always inspect the fish, and wash it thoroughly. As I was eating it, I noticed a taste that reminded me of burnt Styrofoam. This is not the first time that I had tasted this in their fish, and by this time, I honestly thought that this taste was a naturally occurring taste in Atlantic Salmon. The next day, however, upon further inspection of the remainder of the fish, I found a small piece of Styrofoam deeply embedded in one of the pieces of fish. The fact that I did indeed ingest burnt Styrofoam did not make me happy at all. I am a personal trainer and am extremely conscious about what I consume (fish is supposed to be healthy-not toxic). I immediately called the store ([redacted]), and talked to the manager of the fish department to find out where they got the fish. He told me I needed to talk to the store manager, [redacted], which I did. Mr. [redacted] did not seem to care much about my issue. I gave him my phone number, and he said he would respond with the information I asked for. He never even bothered to get back to me, so on 5/23 I called Stop and Shops Customer Affairs number ([redacted]). I talked with a woman named Nichole, and gave her the information of my issue. She assured me that someone would get back to me. I waited a week, with no response, and called customer affairs again on 5/30. This time I talked to a [redacted]. She verified that my information had been documented in their computer, but said that their District Director handled such cases. I asked her for his contact information, but she could not even supply me with his name. She said that she would get back to me with this information, but once again did not even bother to. I am amazed by the lack of concern and the lack of response from this company from the bottom all the way to the top. They sold me toxic fish, which could have long term adverse effects on my health, and not only don't they care, their attitude is that I am bothering them with my problem. What are these people getting paid for? I want to know where they got fish, and what the Styrofoam is made out of. How long should it take to figure out who your own fish supplier is?Desired Settlement: I want to know the chemical makeup of the Styrofoam, and, if necessary, have tests performed that reveal health effects (short and long)of ingestion after being cooked. I also want them to pay for a medical exam, as well as any subsequent medical attention needed as a result of this incident.

Response:

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:The first time that I spoke with Mr. [redacted] nearly 5 weeksago, I requested information regarding Stop and Shop's fish distributor. Hestill has not responded, nor has Stop and Shop's Customer Affairs Dept /District Director. They are culpable for distributing contaminated fish to thepublic. Other than refunding my money for the contaminated fish that they soldme, they have made no attempt to rectify this situation, or address any of myrequests to settle this. Regards,
