Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:Virtually everything within the contractor's response is either a total misrepresentation of the facts, or blatantly false.  Taken item by item, I offer the following corrections: 1) I had nothing to do with the delivery, and stacking, of the drywall material.  To save on his own costs, the contractor had hired two young fellows to do this arduous work, and he was not even present at the time.  The two guys stacked about half of the material against a wall, and they decided to place the remainder flat on the floor.  It was not my decision. 2) Re: the starting time for the work, I had merely asked if the installers could delay for an hour or so, giving me a little time to move heavy items out of the way for them to work unobstructed. I had planned on doing this work the afternoon before, but had suffered an eye injury that morning which required treatment at a local emergency clinic, and I was unable to begin this site preparation until late in the evening.  Nevertheless, the contractor insisted that his crew had to start at 7:30, so I worked late that night to prepare the area for them.  There was no anger expressed by me.  I was simply asking for their cooperation. 3) Apparently, the drywall installation crew decided on their own to just quit working at noon that first day, and not return. I was in the house all day, and would have heard if they tried to call out to me, or ring the doorbell, to inform me of their plans.  There was no such announcement made. 4) The "extreme protection" the contractor installed consisted of a loose canvas tarp that was hung from our ceiling over the doorway to the work area.  It was not even close to being airtight, as he had promised, so a lot of drywall dust was sucked into the living spaces via our HVAC system.  This was frustrating, but I was willing to live with it. 5) The only "change order" I requested was to not place drywall over a wooden support beam.  This was a very small alteration from our plan, and it actually REDUCED the amount of work he had to do, with no financial loss to him at all. 6) Re: the completion time for the work, the contractor had assured us that all drywall would be installed in two days. When the crew did not return to work the afternoon of the first day (a Thursday), I expressed concern that they might not be able to finish their work before the weekend, when we hoped to be able to clean the house for visitors.  After all, they had insisted on starting their work at 7:30 sharp on Thursday morning.  No explanations were given Thursday night, but I was assured that work would continue Friday morning.  Instead, the contractor sneaked into the house Friday AM, took all his tools, and left a complete mess of drywall scraps, dust, and debris all over the work area.  He left a hand-scribbled note saying that he was quitting the job because I had been unreasonable. 7) The only other person that we know in common with this contractor-owner is the general contractor mentioned in his response.  To suggest that "others" have complained about us is a complete lie.  We continue to have a good working relationship with the general contractor mentioned, and he denies having made any derogatory comments about us. 8) Re: the financial implications, the contractor should know that his quitting our job ultimately cost us a lot more money than he originally estimated.  In the days following this fiasco, this contractor apparently spread a lot of negative and false information about us within the community of drywall contractors and suppliers, and we had difficulty finding another team to finish this job.  Ultimately, bids came in very high, or were non-existent.  He had actually over-estimated the amount of material needed for the job, too, so we ultimately wound up giving away about $130 worth of drywall.  He should consider himself lucky that we have not taken him to court.   I continue to believe this drywall contractor had decided to just abandon our project, as he just did not want to do the more difficult part of the work (the open stairway) in the end.  In fact, we have just been told that he is no longer doing large drywall jobs, but has now decided to limit his work to only small repair jobs instead.  Sounds like a guy who has just burned-out, and I would avoid his services completely.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Things started out badly; as when I started the job the homeowner wouldn't allow me to stack the board leaned on the walls. He insisted I stack it all on the floor. This is very inconvenient for installer. The night before work started he complaints 7:30 was too early. I haven't the right to command...

every little move my sub makes. He starts at that time daily. [redacted] (homeowner) was not happy - said he had to stay up late because of us??? Job had been sitting for months to get ready. I put up extreme protection over his doorway into his home before any work started. Placed tarps leading to bathroom (they never went up through the protection and kept it sealed closed the entire 4 hours they worked the first day) First thing [redacted] makes 2 changes, one which would be costly change. He was so grumpy I skipped telling him at that point that would be a change order at a price. They start, work til lunch,, and tried to call out for him 3 times to alert him they were leaving for the day. That night I got a nasty text saying "they never showed back up and the have trashed my house" And, " they certainly better be done by the following day so I can get my house cleaned." The stairway is high and dangerous and I wasn't about to tell him he must be done or else! Unacceptable for me to say that to my sub. I cannot map his move. He is my sub, not an employee!! [redacted] angry as [redacted] at this point. Me as well as I am not willing to send him back to deal with an unpleasant customer. [redacted] also asked for time cards from them? He was angry about every aspect of everything to that point. They put up over 50% in that first short day. All [redacted] could do was complain; even about a sheetrock upgrade I provided to increase fire safety at no extra cost. He states he didn't complain about that. I ask... what's to complain about? It's a free upgrade... There was no pleasing him; but the comment that we were "trashing his house" is the point where I said no more. Have pictures included to document. I contacted my insurance agent to talk over, she know him. Tells me; honestly, he is known to be a more than difficult and a long time General Contractor is Dave L[redacted]. He has also had difficulties with this homeowner. I accepted $1500 down, paid my sub, and for the stock. Now Im on the hook for the sheetrock on my account ($200). So he came out ahead.*Please view attached document.
