Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/07/31) */
Mr [redacted] hired our company to put a replacement roof on a home they had recently purchased. Upon tear off of the old roof we discovered that most of the decking on the northeast side of the house was rotten and needed to be replaced. We did so...

at the rate discussed before start. It was evident that in the low pitch area on the Northeast side it had been leaking for some time, but very hard to pin point exactly where because of the extent of the damage. There had also been two (2)vents added in this low pitch area previously, I suspect to alleviate some ice damming problems in the winter months. In a new construction I would never put vents in this location but they were put there for a good reason I suspect so we re-used the locations. we could of very easily covered the vent hole locations and continued on with no worry of what would happen in the winter months but I deemed that to be Irresponsible. We finished up the roof job along with a few on the fly additions from the customer (gutters, Additional vents in garage roof, soffit repairs) all completed promptly.. A week later we received a call from Mr [redacted] saying that the roof was dripping inside somewhere near where the steep pitch portion of the roof meets the low pitch area. (over the laundry room if I remember correctly) I stated that we would have someone over there immediately to take a look. Upon looking closer it seemed that there was just enough of a water flow off the steep roof to penetrate into the southern most vent on the low pitch roof. Shingles were taken up more flashing and sealant were added to stop this. Again we could have just torn the vents out and shingled it all back in but that would not have addressed why those vents were placed there before. A few Days later we received another call from Mr. [redacted] Saying that he was concerned about the roof. We promptly sent a worker over to take a look, Our worker was turned away and told that there was no longer a problem.. I called Mr.[redacted] to See what the concern was and he stated that it was not leaking and it was fine. Two days later I receive a letter in the mail stating that the roof is in fact leaking with a drawing asking why we did not remove the vents on the low pitch roof. I tried to explain that they were likely there for a good reason and that it would be very easy for us to remove them completely but it may be more problems for him down the line. We promptly sent a worker over who took up the shingles in the entire area and identified that the water was actually getting in at the northern most vent. An addition layer of Ice and water shield was added to the whole area, Flashing and Sealant added to all vents and re-shingled back in. Our worker was extremely confident that he had identified the problem and addressed it properly. Calls were made to see that everything had been taken care of that went unanswered. A few days later I received this Revdex.com formal complaint (our first in 15 years of doing this) I promptly Called Mr [redacted] to See what else he would like us to do and he would not answer me if there was still a leak or not and offered no resolution. I called addiotiona times and was hung up on, My project manager was hung up on. I was more than willing to do whatever I could to make him happy and stated that multiple times. If he wants the vents taken out we were willing to do that. No Two roof jobs are the same, especially on older homes like His that had extensive previous damage. we did our best to address the problems we saw during the project and are willing to do whatever to make him happy, which is impossible without communication. There were many very odd social issues during the project like having my project manager write out the checks for payment, sending away workers saying there was no problem, unanswered calls and hang ups and yet I would still like to see him happy with the Job.
Thank You.
