To Whom it May Concern: We have reviewed the concern expressed by the patient's son, [redacted], in regard to Northeast Methodist Hospital. This letter is our response to that complaint First, we want to express our sympathy to the family for their loss. The account was billed timely on 4/22/14...

after patient discharge date of 4/14/14. Humana Medicare paid timely on 4/29/14, leaving a patient responsibility of $75.00, which was paid timely, leaving the account at a $0.00 balance. Since the billing and payments were all taken care of timely, there was no need for statements to the patient. On 8/26/15 Humana Medicare recouped their entire payment amount, leaving the account balance of $4510.36. This is the reason for the statements that were sent to the patient estate address. Northeast Methodist Hospital billing is presently working with the insurance trying to resolve this issue and collect payment. During the time of our appeal to Humana Medicare, we have placed the account in a status where no statements will be sent to the estate until we have resolved the issue with the Payer. If the insurance pays our appeal, there will be no balance due. In relation to the estate being billed, laws allow that if there is a living spouse in the event of a patient death, any patient responsibility would be forwarded to the living spouse. If there is no living spouse, then an open estate would be billed. However if there is no living spouse, and the estate has also been closed, then there will be no responsibility to the patient family. We would appreciate receiving a copy of the death certificate, if the family is willing to provide that for our review and records. We are also checking on the status of the estate. At this time we are doing everything we can do procure the recouped payment from Humana Medicare. The patient family can expect an absolutely correct, reasonable and fair handling of this account. The total charges were $1236.00 with the patient balance of $185.40. All hospital correspondence for this date of service has been returned to our billing department as the patient provided an incorrect address and left prior to registration.
