We finished the roof replacement work 8/6/All work was completed as per contract with additional work being done which included
replacing plywood on the roof deck all completed to his satisfaction prior to collection of balance dueWe also replaced wood and Aluminum Fascia at the front elevation as per the contractthe issue in question is in the rear fasciaThis was not in the contractthis house has rafters and trusses that are not level, so getting a perfectly flat roof is impossible, so in spots at rear there is a gap between the fascia and roofWe tried screwing the decking down but I guess it is not to his satisfactionHe would not contract to replace or install new roof edge fascia to cover this structural imperfectionThe Roof was correctly installed and is in great conditionOur Sub ***'s Roofing did a very good job with the work,
In response that I blew him off and We haven't been there is entirely false, Our service tech from *** Roofing has been there times, the Project Manager has been there times, and I was there time and spoke with him on the phone several timesWe have tried to level the rafters and plywood to the existing fascia but the rafter and structural wood won't let that happen
I also spoke with Homeowner and said we could tear the shingles and plywood off in that area and then fix the raftersBut he insists that he will not pay for it
Again, I/We have spoke with Homeowner several times, also after he had filed this complaint, I didn't know he had filed complaint at the time I spoke with him
His house is very old and was not kept up with
Also We did not here from him till this spring, after the harsh winter which could have contributed to what he thinks is wrong
We were/are willing to assist him
Every Appointment made we kept
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 10, 2014/06/25) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
When they installed the roof on 8/6/2013, they didn't properly nail down the new roof panels in the back of the houseAs a result, the plywood buckled upward, breaking the waterproof seal of the Aluminum FasciaThis obviously started happening before winter, because when the winter came, the water that leaked underneath the Aluminum Fascia frozeThe freezing caused expansion and bent the Aluminum Fascia all out of shape, so much so that the lip on the Aluminum Fascia siding was flattenedThere is now a gap of exposed wood between the Aluminum Fascia and the roof tileMy Aluminum Fascia is all bent up and looks badThere are multiple spots in the back where this has happenedThere are apparently no problems with the front of the roofI would like the back roof/fascia to be like the front
In their response, Northern Illinois Vinyl (NIV) mentions someone from ***'s Roofing coming over and "fixing" our roof* from *** Roofing first came over in the spring when it was discovered that the back roof panels were buckling upward pretty badlyWhen *** was done inspecting the situation, he said that the wood panels buckled up because the roofers had nailed the panels into rotten wood at the ends of some of the raftersWhen I asked if the roofers should have noticed this rotten wood and replaced it, he said "Yes"So *** tried to fix the situation by attaching the wood panels with screws instead of nailsA day or two later the panels were buckling againHe came back again a few *** later and put in longer screwsThis did not fix the problem: There is still a gap of exposed wood between the Aluminum Fascia and the roof tileThe long screws are just a band aid, because if that wood is rotten, those long screws will eventually fail and buckling will occur againThe roofing team should have noticed the rotten wood and replaced it, as *** acknowledgedI paid $extra to replace rotten wood that they foundThey should have noticed this rotten wood and replaced itNIV is responsible for fixing any ice/water damage done due to the roof panels bucklingThey are also responsible for replacing the rotten wood that they nailed the roof panels into
My wife and I had to take out a Home Equity Loan to obtain the $needed for the roof replacement by NIVThis is a lot of money for us because we don't have much and we have a son in CollegeWe have used NIV in the past for other home improvement projects, and they did quality work with no problemsWe were expecting the same with the new roof, but unfortunately it hasn't work out that wayWhy should I give NIV more of my money to pay for problems they created?
Final Business Response /* (4000, 21, 2014/07/10) */
Northern Illinois Vinyl Distributors Inccompleted all work contracted with the homeowner, as per contract for roofing, we also replaced rotten and bad plywood as per our contract and invoiceThe roofing crew informed the homeowner that other things where wrong, and outside of our scope of workHe did not want to pay for structural rafter work because it was minor and located at or small locationsWe were not responsible for structural wood as per the contractI inspected the location prior to sending a repair crew there in good faith trying to fix the plywoodAt the time we did the new roof We also replaced all the Aluminum Fascia and some Fascia wood on the front of the house at the same time as the roof replacement it was falling off because of the existing bad roof, The rear fascia was not in the contractThe Fascia was not damaged at that time of my inspection and when my service crew visited in June! This home has had years of neglect prior to us working on itI had contacted the homeowner on or about 6/26/to discuss and try to remedy the problemWe had come up with a verbal agreement to pull the shingles and plywood to find out what was wrong with the structural raftersHe seems to be trying to get something for nothing now
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 23, 2014/07/15) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The roofing crew never told me that other things were wrong and outside the scope of Northern Illinois Vinyl's work, as they claimI also never refused to pay for any structural rafter work because I was never told that the house needed structural rafter workWhen *** says that "The Fascia was not damaged at that time of my inspection and when my service crew visited in June!" he is just outright lying! The fascia damage became visible in the spring after the snow and ice meltedI am not trying to "get something for nothing now" as *** suggestedI just want them to fix the problems they created

I'm not going to accept any response and close this case until all of the work is doneThey haven't repaired the fascia yet, which was not "damaged by unknown persons" as NIV claims in their response aboveIt was damaged by water leaking underneath the fascia, due to their mistatkes, then the water froze and expanded, bending the fascia out of shape
7/31/
Please provide a date by which the work will be completedIf the work will take place within the next days, please hold off on your response pending completion of the workPlease update us on the outcome of the work

As of August 1st Friday, All repairs have been done, We found some structural damage to 2xrafters and 1xwood fascia, This damage was not attributed to the small plywood buckleWe found rusted nails high up on the plywood sheathing that we removed, this we found out from the owner was caused by the bathroom fan blowing air directly into the atticI informed him he should not have his fan blowing into atticThe Fascia in question had rusted penny nails nailed into the aluminum fascia, we do not use those type of nails in our workWe repaired everything and the owner agreed that it was done
