I purchased a used transmission from Airport Auto and Truck Wrecking we installed the transmission it failed within 30-40 miles of installation. My mechanic and I purchased a used transmission from a previously totaled/salvaged vehicle. Upon proper installation from a reputable transmission shop in the Reno area the transmission failed after 30 miles of use. The model in question has been noted on many websites as being a problem transmission for premature faliure. When the transmission failed I had the vehicle towed to my mechanics shop where they did the initial inspection of the vehicle and checked the fluids. Upon delivery and inspection to Airport Auto and Truck Wrecking they diagnosed that there was "Improper Fluid" int the final drive. The representative also went to to detail that they "test" the transmission after their procurement by "running the dirve train while on the rack". This is hardly a street test of 30 miles after a major impact/damage that calls for salvage. The fluid he showed me was not the same fluid that was in the vehicle the previous night. I understand that not all things go how they are supposed to when it comes to used parts. We purchase from large more reputable used parts dealers and they do not engage in the same shady practices of deception,and peddling of damaged good without the intent of backing them up should there be a periodic problem. When I asked them to do the right thing and help me out with new parts he stated he would pay for half. This leaves me stuck with $500 install plus $400 in replacement parts. Desired SettlementI offered the manager the option of replacing the parts and I would foot the Mechanics bill to remove and re-install the defective part we were provided. He declined. At this point I no longer have a desire to keep our business local and be defrauded in broad daylight. We are now seeking compensation of mechanic fees and parts plus towing via the city of Reno Small Claims Court if we should not find so amicable resolution for the indecent that has occurred. Final Consumer Response The manager [redacted] and I came to an amicable resolution of the scenario. He refunded the full purchase price. We are stuck with replacing the transmission for a second time having to source parts from another location and pay for a mechanic to remove and reinstall the transmission again.
