Dear Revdex.com,
I am writing in response to a letter received from our [redacted] who recently filed a complaint to your organization. After reading [redacted] letter it is quite obvious that there was some misunderstanding between our practice and...

[redacted].We are an oral and maxillofacial surgery practice which is a dental specialty practice. Our practice Sees every patient for a consultation prior to any procedure and rarely do we perform a procedure the same day unless there is an emergency. During the consultation we perform a clinical exam, take and review any necessary radiographs, review the patient's medical history, discuss anesthetic options, treatment alternatives as well as risk and benefits. Also during the consultation appointment we provide our patients with an estimate for the cost of any treatment needed. Our office is set up this way for better patient care and to be transparent and upfront with the cost of treatment. The cost for the consultation and panoramic radiograph for a patient who we are not in network with their insurance or do not have insurance is 150 dollars each respectfully. Sadly, the patient's insurance company dictates our fees and therefore the patients out of pocket expense. This is a big misconception in medicine and dentistry as patients think we control our fees.
When [redacted] called to schedule his consultation appointment our office staff provided him with the same fees we tell all our new patients, which is 150 dollars each for the consultation and panoramic radiograph, We cannot accurately verify insurance coverage until the patient presents for the consultation and provides us with their insurance card and so we provide them with worst case scenarios. [redacted] assumed the fees provided to him over the phone also included his toothextraction.
On the day of his consultation while Dr. T[redacted] met with [redacted] and his wife to discuss his care, our office staff verified his insurance. [redacted] has a discount dental plan through [redacted], To help [redacted] Dr. T[redacted] agreed he would perform the procedure the same day. When I went to review his coverage with him he became very upset and stormed out of the office. Because we do accept his discount dental plan his quote for the consultation and panoramic radiograph was $184 dollars, which was much lower than what was quoted to him over the phone ($300). Since Dr. T[redacted] was also willing to remove the tooth the same day there was another fee for the extraction which was an additional $253 dollars. [redacted] assumed that the $300 dollar fee quoted over the phone was for the extraction as well but it was only for the consult and radiograph. There was never any intention of misleading him and in actuality we were as transparent as can be with the fees.He did write our office a letter which we have provided for you. In his letter there is obvious sarcasm and a threat to our practice. Our practice feels that his complaints are quite unfair and have no merit. If we can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.Sincerely,
