Northfield Veterinary Hospital Reviews (2)

I am rejecting this response because:
I was going to accept the partial payment due, but now I read the response letter from the Vet. I did not swear at the ladyThis letter makes it sound like I was partly in the wrong, when I expect the vet to take full 100% responsibility now. My family will also never return here as the staff is not properly trained to obviously handle situations (good or bad)And no one told me the dog bit anyone and no one told me anything about the situation with it taking so long to put my dog to sleepThe lady specifically told me that they wanted to cut his head off (word for word) and even if he did not bite anyone, than they were doing it anyway. I also have my companies legal deptlooking into this matter at this time as wellThis vet's response letter was not apologetic in the least.Sincerely,***

(Revdex.com Copied from original document.)I am in receipt of a formal complaint filed by [redacted] towards Northfield Veterinary Hospital. Mr. [redacted] brought his dog "Iron" in on August 2, 2016 with a complaint of it acting aggressive toward his family, even forcing them to find refuge in a locked...

room to avoid his aggression. My associate veterinarian Dr. Kristen W[redacted]t, whom Mr. [redacted] refers to as "nice and helpful" in his complaint, did a thorough physical examination. during this examination the Registered Veterinary Technician Sarah, that was assisting, was bitten on her arm by "Iron" in an aggressive manner requiring her to exit the room to clean blood from her arm. Mr. [redacted] was present in the examination room and I am informed by Sarah and Dr. W[redacted]t he witnessed the bite. Mr. [redacted] agreed to bloodwork and requested hospitalization overnight while we awaited the blood results to come in. The following day was Dr. W[redacted]ts day off, so the normal blood results were reported to Mr. [redacted] by Dr. Meghan A[redacted]. Mr. [redacted] chose to have Iron humanely euthanized and requested pre-euthanasia sedation. In addition he also requested private cremation. As Dr. A[redacted] was preparing to perform the procedure she was informed by fellow staff of the aggressive behavior Iron exhibited toward his family as well as the bite of our technician. I was then contacted by the office staff as to what protocol to follow. I informed them that Ohio Law requires if an animal bites a human then that animal must be quarantined for 10 days, or if the animal dies or is euthanized within that 10 day period it must have a decapitation procedure performed and the head, with brain tissue intact, sent to Ohio Department of Health for Rabies testing. However, some counties have their own regulations concerning Rabies and I had no knowledge of Summit County Department of Health requirements so a call was placed to them.Mr. [redacted] expresses understandable anger that several hours had passed from the time he thought his dog was euthanized to the time he was called by our office later. I take full responsibility for that as we waited several hours for the Summit County Department of Health to find the appropriate individual and return our calls with an answer. As expected, we were required to send the brain to Columbus for testing if we were to perform the euthanasia that Mr. [redacted] requested. We could have easily performed the euthanasia that was requested, decapitated the head, and performed the cremation that was requested, however it was me that asked Mr. [redacted] be informed of our potential rabies dilemma, given the option to quarantine his dog as opposed to euthanasia, and be informed the dogs body would not be complete when it was cremated. I did not feel it was appropriate to cremate a dogs body that was not in 'total' and I feel every pet owner in that situation be informed.Understandably when Mr. [redacted] received that call several hours later he was shocked and angered, wondering why his dog had not been euthanized yet. Our practice manager Peg made that very difficult call to Mr. [redacted], and Dr. A[redacted] listened as a witness (law requires either the client sign a consent or we get 2 people to hear the verbal direction of the owner when euthanasia is requested). I am told by Dr. A[redacted] that Peg was extremely emotional, tearful, and her voice quivering, as she has been in Mr. [redacted]'s shoes recently after her own dog was attacked and mauled and died in her arm** I'm also told Mr. [redacted] used foul language in his approach with Peg, in closing telling her to go F...herself!Once I received your Revdex.com complaint I reached out to Mr. [redacted] to speak personally and avoid all the third party interpretation** I expressed my sorrow for the difficult situation his family was in and I appreciate how hard it is to say good bye to a 4-legged fellow family member. Mr. [redacted] expressed shock that his dog had bitten anyone. He was adamant that bite ever occurred. I informed him that Sarah has puncture holes still visible in her arm from Iron. I also took the opportunity to explain to him that I run my business with honesty and integrity, thus I was unwilling to let a dog be cremated without his knowledge that parts my be missing. I feel awful that the call had to be made to him. Mr. [redacted] at that time asked that we not return his dogs ashes to him as it would be most difficult for his children.Mr. [redacted] had a bill of over $712 of services that he requested at our office. In an effort to remedy this situation, and as a gesture of good faith, I have placed a credit of over $315 towards his bill leaving him a balance of $359. In essence I am absorbing every fee associated with the rabies bite, decapitation, processing. FedEx shipping to Columbus and the Ohio Dept. Health fee to perform the testing as well as absorbing any fess associated with the night of hospitalization and a reduced cremation fee since the ashes do not need to be returned in an urn. I have contacted Mr. [redacted] and he has agreed to pay this amount. At the time of this letter the bill is unpaid.Professionally Yours,Roger ** R[redacted] DVM - President, Northfield Veterinary Hospital Inc.
