Had an "adjustable life" policy with these crooks for nearly years; wasn't paying attention in latter years and these crooks depleted my cash value without telling me until after the fact First class crooksNever trust insurance company

This company is by far the worse, took them forever to review my case...I was almost kicked out of my apartment because it took so longThey only paid me half of what my check was making my months injured months of strugglingCase worker never returned my phone calls, I had to speak to a manger on duty to get informationI never got a check and the customer service person I talked yelled at me as I was trying to get him to send out a new checkThey are an uncaring insurance company, I wish the company work for would change

I have been a customer of the Principal Financial Group since 2007,I have a [redacted] account and a [redacted] account with this companyI am retired and left both accounts with the company.fully vested in both the accountsCustomer service is terribleI depend on drawdowns of my money to pay bills and for general living expensesI am going to withdraw all funds I have from this companyI truly believe that the company engages in criminal behavior and withholds customer dollars on purposeI have complained to the company about the fact that they are not allowing the release of funds I legally requested ( using their drawdown procedures)I believe they have reacted to my negative evaluations of their service by engaging in retaliatory behaviorI fear what they will do when I try to remove my funds They should be investigated Sadly, I was the corporate decision maker that initially chose this company I am going to explore procedures for filing complaints with the appropriate Federal agenciesAll investors should be made aware of this company and their practices

I had a 401k account through Principal with my last employer. My employer prior to that one (2 employers ago) had a 401k through a different company, [redacted] and the ex-ex-employer informed me that, due to a clerical error, they had put too much money into my 401k. I contacted Principal to let them know and worked with the reps on a number of calls to make sure I was doing it correctly, and then authorized the funds to be sent back to [redacted] on 8/5. Once the funds were withdrawn, Principal hit me with a $115 fee. I had previously asked them on a number of calls what the fee would be, and they had noted $40. When I called, they said the additional $75 was a TPA fee, which they could not control. I mentioned that it would have been nice if they would have mentioned that on any of the calls. Then, one week later, Principal, without any authorization from me, AGAIN withdrew the rollover amount ($8k+) and sent it to [redacted] That's right, they deducted this TWICE, even though I never authorized them to do so. Since, I have contacted them 20+ times, each time a frustrating experience. The calls usually last 20-30min, 15-20min of the time is spent on hold, with the rep reviewing all of the notes on the account. After a few times, I demanded to speak to a supervisor/manager; I kept calling, emailed, wrote a letter, no one responded satisfactorily or with any inkling of what could be called a resolution. Every time, they say they are looking into it; I am not sure what this company gets accomplished if it takes them months to look into every issue. They keep saying they will resolve things within 2-3 days, and now it is almost 3 months later, and still no resolution. The only reason I caught this was that I was checking my 401k balance; had it been like other times or had I been like other people, I may not have checked it for months, and they could have gotten away with this travesty of customer service. What Principal did (removing funds from my account without my authorization) is not lawful, but I am also not interested in putting out any of my own money to hire a lawyer to fight this. That no one checked my account to see if almost exactly the same amount was just deducted a week ago is customer service at its utmost ineptitude and putridity. I finally had to contact [redacted] myself and manually sent the funds back to them. Now, I have been contacting Principal again so that they can return the fees they originally assessed (which Principal agreed to) and was again told it would be back in my account 2-3 days, and that was 3 weeks ago. I have now secured the name of the company CEO, and all of the media relations contacts, and will be writing all of them tersely worded letters and emails, and will look to register complaints in any way I can. To say that their customer service is appalling and to further that they make a business of making promises they are either unwilling or unable to fulfill would rank as the understatement of the century. I have spent at least 30 hours of my time on a mistake that I did not make, ultimately partially corrected it myself, and this collection of ne'er-do-wells continues to waste my time and not resolve the issue even after 3 months of 'working on it'.

Why is this the only company that handles 401k?! They have horrible customer service and they are unable to complete a simply task as easy as issuing a withdrawalThe direct deposit they send to the bank had some else's name on it!! Really?!!! How does this happen with a company that handles billions of dollars? The agent was rude and condescending, trying to make it seem as if I was at fault

I have been a dentist for yearsIn the past year I have been denied claims on patients just because they couldThey said their consultant reviewed claimI don't believe a dentist trained in the USA would have ethically denied these claimsPrincipal is making money for their shareholders and screwing the patients and dentists
Any employer should RUN away from this insurance company
The employees will be very mad that they are going to be charged extra from their dentist for claims summarily declined

This company is by far the worse, took them forever to review my case...I was almost kicked out of my apartment because it took so long. They only paid me half of what my normal check was making my 3 months injured months of struggling. Case worker never returned my phone calls, I had to speak to a manger on duty to get information. I never got a check and the customer service person I talked yelled at me as I was trying to get him to send out a new check. They are an uncaring insurance company, I wish the company work for would change.

Had an "adjustable life" policy with these crooks for nearly 30 years; wasn't paying attention in latter years and these crooks depleted my cash value without telling me until after the fact. First class crooks. Never trust insurance company.

My previous employer used Principal Bank for our [redacted] plan. On [redacted] 31, 2016 I terminated my employment with that company due relocating out of the area. Since I only had a small amount in my [redacted] (less than [redacted] I decided that I wanted to just cash out. During the first part on June I received a letter from Principal Bank with the following information: "Automatic Distribution Option: cash less applicable taxes and penalties / Account Transfer Date: [redacted] 5, 2016 / If the automatic distribution option is right for you, no action is needed." Based on the letter, I took no action, just waited patiently to receive my check. [redacted] 15th rolls around and I still had not received my check, so I call to inquire about it. However, it seems that they rolled my money into a Safe [redacted] I called them and went through the necessary steps to receive my money. After receiving my check, I noticed that my account activity reflected a [redacted] Establishment Fee. I called Principal Bank thinking, okay money was moved incorrectly on their part, they will reimburse me the money that was taken without my approval or knowledge. After speaking with THREE different individuals (including a supervisor) I was informed that an additional deposit was made since the [redacted] letter (putting my balance at [redacted] and since my balance went above [redacted] it is automatically rolled into an [redacted] account after 60 days of no activity, and since I did not go online to change the automatic distribution option it was rolled over. They also informed me that unfortunately they are not able to reimburse me my [redacted] fee. Not one time during this period was I ever contacted to make me aware that this was going to take place. I was not aware that it was rolled over until a week after it occurred, after I initiated contact. My point of this lengthy story....if you choose to use this company, don't just blindly accept what they send you in writing. If you find yourself in a similar situation, check your account frequently to make sure everything is going according to how you prefer. I'm not sure what else I can do. I feel like I was just robbed (granted a small amount) by this company.

I have been a customer of the Principal Financial Group since 2007,I have a [redacted] account and a [redacted] account with this company. I am retired and left both accounts with the company.fully vested in both the accounts. Customer service is terrible. I depend on drawdowns of my money to pay bills and for general living expenses. I am going to withdraw all funds I have from this company. I truly believe that the company engages in criminal behavior and withholds customer dollars on purpose.. I have complained to the company about the fact that they are not allowing the release of funds I legally requested ( using their drawdown procedures). I believe they have reacted to my negative evaluations of their service by engaging in retaliatory behavior. I fear what they will do when I try to remove my funds. They should be investigated . Sadly, I was the corporate decision maker that initially chose this company. I am going to explore procedures for filing complaints with the appropriate Federal agencies. All investors should be made aware of this company and their practices.

I have not received a statement for a very long time and no contact from anyone whatsoever. I finally received a statement after I filed a change of address form. I called to rollover my traditional IRA into another traditional IRA and was told I would only pay $10. (check fee)+ $2.08 for a prorated annual service charge that is normally $25. However, they did charge me $12.08 plus $25.00 service charge, telling me it is from last year?? I have received NO SERVICE whatsoever yet they are requiring me to pay a service charge!! HA!! What a ripoff!!
