NRV Unwired Reviews (2)

We have trouble with New River Valley unwired and they are not willing to come look at our service.we have called several times and still having problems and they said that it would cost for someone to come out.

NRV Unwired has been a godsend! I live far back in the mountains but within line-of-sight of several of their wireless access points so I'm able to receive their wonderful service. Let me describe my situation and how NRV Unwired came through for me.

Living in a rural area and 30 minutes from Dublin, Radford, and Christiansburg, my choices for internet service are extremely limited. Of course we can't get cable so that leaves dialup, satellite, 3G/4G, or wireless through a company like NRV Unwired. We moved into our new house earlier this year and to begin with we signed up for unlimited 3G service through [redacted], a Washington-state based company, for $79.99 per month. It ran off the [redacted] network, which is known for its horrible service in our rural area. However, I added an external yagi antenna and pointed it toward the nearest [redacted] tower. I was getting internet speeds of around 0.5 Mbps down over 0.3 Mbps up with speeds reaching 1.0 Mbps down over 0.5 Mbps up at times. I must admit...this provided us with great internet for 8 months; we were able to watch Youtube, play PS3 games like CoD and Battlefield 3, and it allowed FTP for transferring my weather data to the university and online. However, after 8 months of great service, [redacted] canceled their contract with [redacted], who then had to cancel it with us. [redacted] is a great company though, and they provided us with an alternative through another regional internet 3G supplier...I opted for that. After waiting 3 weeks for this new company (called [redacted]) to get me online, I simply gave up and went back to [redacted] for their 20 GB/mo. plan. This limits the amount of internet use we can use since I was accustomed to using around 30 GB/mo. and it was through [redacted] which has 4G service in our area; meaning we blew through our allotted amount in no time. Also [redacted] doesn't allow FTP on their 4G service. Then I remembered NRV Unwired whose office I pass a lot down in Christiansburg.

NRV Unwired sent out two helpful technicians to see if I could receive a signal from my place. It didn't take them long to locate several wireless access points down towards Riner and Christiansburg. However, they were concerned that my distance (10-15 miles away) might be a problem, so they said to get back with them in a few days to give an engineer time to look over the situation and setup. This was on a Tuesday. I talked with them early on Friday morning of that same week and they said they would be able to install the antenna and provide service and wanted to know when would be best for me. Since I have a large personal communications tower near my house, I opted for them to install the antenna on it. When they arrived on Monday, they were more than ready, bringing a bucket truck and extra equipment/supplies to do the install. It was the same two gentlemen that came out earlier and they couldn't have been more courteous and understanding; they even installed a tower camera for me to monitor the current weather conditions! Once they had the antenna installed and the cable ran into the house to my router, they tested the signal and speeds. They were easily hitting 6.0 Mbps and even 10.0 Mbps download speeds at times! Upload speeds were capped at 2.0 Mbps for my service, and we agreed to limit my download speed to 8.0 Mbps...that's 16x the speed I was getting with 3G service!!! I was extremely satisfied! They also provided me with 1 static IP address and the ability to FTP files.

My dealings with NRV Unwired has been nothing but an absolute wonderful experience! Every one of the staff I have talked to have been extremely helpful and nice. Their internet service is simply awesome! Not only can my wife play on the PS3, we don't have to worry about data caps with NRV Unwired. That is something that simply amazes me and am very thankful for. Add to that we are saving exactly $40/mo. on our internet bill and getting way better service than were did have! I can't begin to say how happy I am that NRV Unwired is around and is our new internet provider! If you're looking for great internet service with an exceptional staff, look no further. I look forward to doing business with them indefinitely or until we have to pick up and move.

Thanks New River Valley Unwired for providing this great service to the community...keep up the awesome work!
