This is in response to your letter of January 18, 2017. This patient was seen in our office on 7-27- Her balance of $($with finance charges) was turned over to collections six months later on 2-25- after five statements were mailed The patient then
called saying she never received any statements Upon reviewing her demographics an error in her address was found I did tell the patient that we did NOT receive any return mail, which we typically would if the mail was undelivered After being turned over to collections the patient then requested an itemized statement and this was mailed to her She called again and said the statement was not received; it was, therefore, mailed a second time on 11-29-2016. The patient then denied payment to collections or to our office saying that our staff had told her she would not have to pay anything because Medicare would pay for everything Our office staff understands that Medicare pays 80% of covered charges and it is our policy not to tell patients what they will or will not owe because we do not have that information It is the patient’s responsibility to know their plan coverage The patient came to our office November, wanting to debate this issue with the staff and DrTill Because we want to end this disruption to our office, her bill has been forgiven and taken out of collections on 1-12- A letter will be sent from CCS to the patient showing a zero balance If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.Sincerely, *** ***, Manager, Business OfficeSouthwest Virginia Eye Center

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved
