Mr*** called for a roof bid last fallI went and measured and gave him an estimateThis was all supposed to be with the understanding that he was getting a
loan and would have the money right away to do the roofAfter he accepted my bid about a month later, he stated that he came into some sort of inheritanceHe finally paid for the materials in early DecemberI told him if he really needed the roof done I would go ahead and do it so it was not leaking any longerHe stated that the second part of the inheritance would not be given to him until spring of and he wanted to wait until he received the check and PAY IN FULL FOR THE JOB (LABOR)Probably in January sometime I receive a call from Mr*** stating that he would probably not be getting his inheritance until March or April, and he also was "really hoping in was going to be enough to cover the labor." Finally he calls in I believe late March or Early April and states that the inheritance was in the mailHe called about a week later and said he was in a bind on some other payments and wanted me to knock off $off the labor or him and his stepson work it offI told him my insurance would not allow him to help.....periodAt that point I wanted all the labor money up front because I wasn't real sure I was going to get paid in the end, so I thought about it for a week or so, talking it over with my wifeShe tells me not to do it and give him the materials for the roof and be done with it(I have been burned by customers a couple times before and was not about to do it again.) Out of the blue, I get a call from his stepson, who only heard their side of the story, wanting to know why I was giving his parents the "runaround." After his smart mouth comments I told him I had just decided I wasn't doing the job and I would set up a delivery for the materials that were purchased clear back in December, and they could find another contractorI am still not exactly sure where they get off saying I took $from them and took offIt is absolutely absurdSo then Mr*** tells me he doesn't want the materials, he wants a cashiers check instead for the full amount, even though I spent numerous hours on the phone and at his propertyI even installed tarps on his roof because he didn't have the labor money yetI explained, or well tried to explain, that when you purchase materials months ago and try to get your money back, all you get is an in store credit and there was no way for him to get a cashiers checkI had another roof come up that I could swap out from, so I gave him a cashiers check and ended all of this nonsense, which is exactly what this isThe agreement was that if I gave him a cashiers check they wouldn't even file a complaintSo much for being a man of his wordAnyway, that is the real storyI never should have taken the job to begin with, for what should've been obvious reasons to meAs for the Popes stating that I am not an honest or professional person, I can give a list of the 100's of customers I have had and anyone is more than welcome to see if single person has a compliant, because I would bet the answer is no
