NYC Locksmith Reviews (2)

Review: I was locked out of my apartment because the lock broke. I had the keys but they were not working. I called the locksmith to open the door. Prior to the service the locksmith told me it would be a $50 calling charge and about $250 to open the door and fix the lock. The locksmith then told me he needed a part and came back with a whole new lock and charged me $684 for the whole service. This service did not cost 684 dollars. I was completely ripped off but did not have any choice but to pay for the service because he was already done with the job and standing in my apartment and would not leave without payment. I was later informed by my landlord that this job could have been much cheaper and that there was no need to replace the whole lock. The locksmith lied to me so he could charge me for a more expensive service.Desired Settlement: I would like to be charged the market rate for drilling a motorized cylinder to open the door. This door could have been fixed without replacing the whole lock.

Review: On Tuesday March [redacted]I was locked inside my apartment and called this locksmith to fix the one lock on my door. There was a plated sticker on my lock from the company for 24 hour locksmith services. The locksmith said it would cost $544 upfront to fix the lock and assured me that he had a contract to fix the locks in my apartment building and that he was "100% sure" the landlord would reimburse me as "he had done this all the time" . As this was after hours and he assured me many times that the landlord would pay me back, I paid. When I spoke to my landlord the next day, he said that they had no such contract with this company and that the price was clearly exculpatory. It turns out someone from the company had put those stickers on all the locks in the apartment. I called the business to try to rectify the situation, but the [redacted] was rude and said there was nothing he could do about it. I looked up online regular prices for emergency locksmith services and its nowhere near $544. I only paid the money because I was assured by the technician multiple times they had a contract with my apartment. I am looking for a refund of at least $450 as emergency locksmith services don't even get above $100 normally.Desired Settlement: I am looking for a refund of $450. $544 to replace one lock is a ridiculous price, and I would never have paid it if I wasn't told by the technician that he had a contract with my landlord.
