terrible customer service
After several months of dealing with NYU Langone and Dr. Chiu they chose to put a $30 bill into collections. Despite over 20 messages back and forth discussing and requesting clarification on my bill (along with me paying every other dollar owed), they chose to put the $30 unexplained discrepancy into collections rather than contact me personally. They never asked how the surgery went - (not well and not happy) but they were quick to claim money.
Find a better doctor who runs a better office. Just unacceptable conduct!

Traumatized from the experience
I have never been so scared for my life and in my life then being at the emergency room (psychiatric). And I still feel traumatized from the experience. First of oall, they call everyone crazy and schizophrenic no matter what. Second of all, they forcibly inject you with zyprexa after inducing panic in keeping you in a room without windows for many days, no movement, forcing you to "relax". Third of all, even after leaving this place I feel unsafe .

I went to ED at NYU Langone in March. I was advised to make a follow-up appt and I visited two physicians office in April. At that time I was terminated from my job and I had insurance in March but didn't have it in April - I didn't know that I didn't have insurance in April until later.

I've been getting bills from NYU Langone Physician services.
Every time I submitted financial assistance form (I submitted 4 or 5 times) I was told that I needed to submit more documents. I submitted my paystubs, unemployment letter, W2 form etc.. Still they wanted more.

I received a bill again on August 12th. Total $643 and $1440.66 was already referred to a collection (total $2,083.66) and I again submitted another financial support form with a letter (I was really desperate. I am not employed due to my health issues and my spouse is a part-time server but she is going back to school. we have almost no income). I called them a week ago (Mid Sept) and they told me the financial support form that I submitted on August 28th was approved and 75% discount would be applied to the bill. I was excited.

However, the amount is almost the same as the previous bill (New bill says $678.04 + Collection $1,215.00 total $1,893.04). I called them again and asked why. The reason was 'Self Pay Discount' was already applied to the previous bill I received in August and they won't give me a 75% of financial support even though It was approved.

I submitted a financial assistance form after I received the bill of $2083.66 and 75% off was approved. but I still need to pay $1,893.04.

It is my opinion as an RN who actually once worked in this hospital that the emergency room at this hospital is TERRIBLE. Dr Anand Kumar Swaminathan is not only uncaring but rude as well. My daughter went there after having chest pain and palpitations and vomiting during a holiday which would come and go over two days. She called her own Dr who recommended she go to an ER to get an EKG and a blood test especially since she had an abnormal result on the last lab test and medications were adjusted.
She is on medications which alter her electrolyte balance and at the last visit reported to the ER that she had several episodes of really rapid pulse and chest pain and vomiting and an abnormally high potassium level in the past week. He REFUSED to do a simple blood test which would have revealed exactly her potassium, sodium magnesium, and glucose levels that may have given a clue as to why she was experiencing these symptoms. All he did was take an EKG to see if she was in danger of dying THAT MINUTE and a completely unnecessary chest x ray but REFUSED to do a simple electrolyte test which would have identified the causation and would have eased the patients mind. It was explained several times that electrolyte was her problem to begin with,. He claimed life threatening electrolyte disturbance would have been seen on the ekg and since it was normal at that particular MOMENT in time it was not emergent and not their problem. She should wait until her Dr was available next week to get a test. He rudely blew off all of her and my concerns the and sent her home ALONE feeling dizzy, with chest pains and periodic palpitations and no answer as to why, since he never bothered to find out, (bc as he said "it's not our problem since she isn't having the symptoms at that minute"that they took the ekg) and she was to wait it out for a week until her own Dr is available. This is the most unkind, uncaring , save a dollar, screw the patient's health, peace of mind and therefore screw the patient's TOTAL well being). This is cheap shabby medicine and if this is their protocol it should be reviewed and so should this doctor's approach to patient care. They didn't hesitate to ask for her money before she left.

I am writing in response to the complaintant's dispute of the the outstanding bill of $1,955 for his daughter’s encounter. Upon receipt of a previous Revdex.com inquiry, ID# [redacted], a thorough review of her urgent care visit was performed. Based on our review, a corrected claim was submitted to the patient’s insurance company, [redacted], for reprocessing. After reprocessing, the patient deductible was reduced from $2,805 to $1,955. The complaintant was contacted on December [redacted], 2014 to be advised of the new amount [redacted] applied to his deductible. At the time of this call, he expressed an inability to pay his deductible. We provided him information about our Financial Assistance program which is available to eligible patients based on income and needs. After our conversation, he was sent a Financial Assistance application. The application has yet not been returned to us.Thank you again for allowing me the opportunity to respond. I am writing in response to the patient’s complaint, Revdex.com ID [redacted], regarding outstanding balances owed for physical therapy services rendered. A thorough review of the patient’s hospital accounts was performed. In verifying her benefits prior to service, we were advised by her insurance carrier,...

BlueCross BlueShield, that these services would be covered based on medical necessity with an expected out-of-pocket payment responsibility of $20 for each visit. We subsequently submitted claims to her insurance carrier. These claims were denied for medical necessity. BlueCross BlueShield clarified the denial and notified us that she was not covered for physical therapy services unless occurring within six months of an emergency room visit, ambulatory surgery, or inpatient admission. We were notified she had not met this criteria. When we verified the patient’s benefits on 3/*/14, we spoke with a representative at BlueCross BlueShield ([redacted], call reference #[redacted]) that did not advise us she did not meet this criteria. The patient is encouraged to contact her insurance carrier for further clarification on her coverage and benefits. Because the patient’s insurance carrier deemed these services non-covered, we applied a 75% self-pay discount to the balances owed. The amount reflected in the patient’s billing statements is the discounted amount. We also encouraged her to apply for financial assistance if she had difficulty with these balances and provided her information about our Financial Assistance program. The patient declined. Thank you again for allowing us the opportunity to respond. NYU Langone Medical Center is dedicated to providing world class care to all of our patients and their families.

As Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) told me before, they have no record of the reference number NYU mentioned. They were unable to locate [redacted]. as well. I called BCBS again this morning (10/**/2015) to make sure, I got the same answer (Call reference #[redacted], Representative Danielle C.). BCBS also stated that for verifications, they always give the complete coverage information. After all, this is what verifications are for. If NYU indeed believes that BCBS gave them the incomplete coverage information (on NYU's 3/**/2015 letter to me, NYU called it "miscommunication"), then NYU should work this out with BCBS. I should not be punished for someone else's mistake. NYU and BCBS has contract too. Last but not least, on my case, NYU had never offered any help on their own to solve this problem. BCBS and I were the ones who pushed NYU to go over the billing, resubmit the claims or work with United Healthcare to see if I could be covered. NYU had never offered me any financial assistance neither. I was referred to someone in Patient Relations but that person actually works in Financial Assistance Office. He "mentioned" to me that their office can help if my case was not solved. ]

After seeing my doctor I stopped by the center reception to request a list of future appointments. I greeted the receptionist pleasantly and requested the lust of appointments. She responded very unprofesdionally with prejudice in her tone. She was Hispanic and I was Asian. She ask me to sit down and she will call me. There was no one behind me. When I say down a Caucas6elderly man approached the receptionist and she help him. What is going on here that I was told to sit down to wait for help? I have been going to the facility for a few years and not once was I told to sit down and wait for assistance. This Hispanic female clearly needs to take a course in how not to show she dislikes Asians. This happen at the facility on 38th Street 6th floor center receptionist. She was the 2nd female from the left. If you would like me to point her out, my next visit is on May 19th. I am not happy about how I was treated. This person clearly violated my Patient Bill of Rights by displaying disrespect and lack if professionalism in performing her job.

Asian is the best! That Hispanic receptionist should be fired, she is racist

Review: Unbeknownst to me, they sent me a refund check two years ago for a service that was done 18 months ago. I didn't know until about two months ago I received a letter that I had unclaimed funds and to sign and return the letter to get a replacement check. I have called on four separate occasions to follow up about the replacement check and have not yet been able to get the matter resolved, and have not been able to receive any updates regarding the status of the replacement.Desired Settlement: I'd like a replacement check be sent to me immediately.

Review: I had stayed in NYU Hospital 1/**/13-1/**/13 to deliver my baby.Hospital Account #[redacted]. After[redacted] I had stayed in a private room and paid for the private room $1575 (3x525) a full price. The Hospital billed my insurance and my insurance paid in full that included a semi-private room $1275 (3x425).Because my insurance paid for semi-private room and I had stayed in private room, I responsible only for difference between private and semi-private room (525-425) x3=$300. Therefore, I would like to request a reimbursement from the Hospital on the amount of $1525-$300=$1200. Your attention to this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Response:

At this time, I have not been contacted by NYU Langone Medical Center and School of Medicine regarding complaint ID [redacted]

Sincerely,

Review: I took my baby to NYU Langone Center to the emergency room, the baby at that time was 6 months old, fell from the bed so I got scared and took her to the Hospital emergency room which is 2 blocks from my apartment.

My insurance (under my wifes name [redacted]) Aetna id# [redacted] covers us, we should only pay $100.00 for emergency room ( we paid $175.00) now they are keep sending me bills of an extra $365.00 to pay, I called them 3 times and all three times they confirmed me that there was an error and they shouldn't charge me the $365.00 amount. The last time I spoke to [redacted] from langone customer service ###-###-####, and also Al id#[redacted] Aetna insurance they both confirmed that I shouldn't pay the amount the insurance covers it. Of course I received the bill again and I can't take it anymore, that's why now I'm writing you, knowing that you will help me deal with these people.

Thank you for your help and Best Regards,

[redacted]Desired Settlement: The business has responsability to fix the bill and do the right calculation
