Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: Sincerely, G After months of messages left, finally on Oct10, 2017, I called T [redacted] again and left message on voice mail indicating reporting this to my lawyerWithin ten minutes, T [redacted] responded and requested meeting at my homePrevious to our meeting I spoke to receptionist on numerous occasions, left messages and met with three separate technicians, Deon R***, A.Jand KanielaMrT [redacted] arrived and first asked to brief him on what I was concerned withHe also mentioned no one from Martin Doors ever spoke to him about my issues including his secretary as she has heard my problems numerous times requesting T [redacted] (boss) to callHe’s lying! I showed him the metal stripping on the left side of the door which was my concernT [redacted] tried to convince me of possible ways to alleviate this eye-soreOne of his suggested remedies were to change the door columns on both sides from the current 2” X 6” beams to 4” X 8” and shaven accordingly to cover metal strippingSecond, he would trim the metal stripping to hide itAt that time I thought this was a possibilityBut, throughout the day I thought T [redacted] would be jeopardizing the structural integrity of my garage door columns and with no authority as a licensed structural engineer, I definitely declinedBesides, I never suggested replacing trim with a wider pieceAs a 40-year Aircraft Quality Assurance inspector by trade I understand the philosophy of physics, I would suggest to order a wider door between 2-inches, center the door, install and the problem is solved. When A.J., the second Martin Door technician, arrived my home he measured the garage door and in minutes he said the door was measured wrong, but, technician did suggest purchasing aesthetically pleasing tape to hide strippingT [redacted] said he came up with the exact same measurement as the originalMy concern: if this garage door was measured correctly, why are we contemplating replacing wood columns, trimming or widening metal stripping and finally paint metal strippingWhen I first saw the Hawaii Martin Garage (Wood Grain) Door on it’s website, I wanted this beautiful doorWhether the garage opening measures 15’10” or 16’ or 18’, one must order accordinglyWhen first meeting T [redacted] he instilled a character of quick talking while trying to confuse the homeowner, sorry sir, you lose [redacted]

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: As a consumer, I now view [redacted] (Hawaii Garage Doors) as a predatory company feeding on unsuspecting customers My understanding of a proposal is a description of the exact work, materials, etcinvolved in the job requested The proposal stated an amount with a very limited description, which did NOT delineate the labor hours or the parts to be used I reiterate that I needed to request the breakdown of the estimate/proposal This non-disclosure and lack of transparency of the actual labor and materials is misleading How did you expect anyone to accept a proposal without providing the detailed information of the work to be completed How many other jobs by proposal have been overstated versus understated in labor hours or parts overstated since it is a lump sum amount? I assumed that the proposal was an estimate of the work to be performed versus a “very loose” contract or proposal of work to be performedI will honor this commitment as I have honored all of my commitments in my lifetime The issue of transparency resonates as a predatory circumstance Although I cannot claim that my proposal was padded, it is my opinion from this experience that the omission of the job details leads me to believe something is awry with the management of [redacted] (Hawaii Garage Doors) My interpretation of the ‘proposal’ was that it was an estimate of the work to be performedI will NOT advise anyone in my community or recommend [redacted] (Hawaii Garage Doors) to anyone else that may seek my experience with your company due to the lack of transparency of the details of the work to be performed. As for your comment that you do not ask me for more if more visits or additional hours required is because you already overcharged and allotted more time than the job required with these vague so called "proposals." Sincerely, [redacted] **

Tell us why hereAs mentioned in complaint, Technician AJ said, “The door measurements are wrong”He did not specify in writing of his findingOn Oct 10, 2017,I assisted T [redacted] during the garage door measurementWe measured 15’10” between the insides of both door jambsT [redacted] indicated this measurement is the same as Devon’sLater, I researched for the proper way to measure a typical garage door openingI measured 16’2”The measurement T [redacted] and I did was WRONGAccording to Garage8.docx the proper measurement should be from the backside of each jambIf 15’10” was ordered from the manufacturer, the door width would’ve come up short, exposing one, possibility two door metal rub stripsT [redacted] says “I am fixated on the metal stripping” but as the photos depict, a major measurement error occurred causing an obvious eye-soreT [redacted] came up with possible fixes but none would be acceptable both by homeowner nor a contractor without structural engineer approvalBottom line is he needs to own up to his company’s mistake, order a correct garage door and replace it.According to http://www.hawaiigaragedoors.com/garagedoors.html: Martin Garage Doors (MGD) consider your satisfaction (homeowner) to be our highest priorityThat's why, in absolutely everything we do, we strive to meet or exceed your expectationsFrom the moment you call for a quote to the completion of your residential garage door installation project, you can expect attentive, personalized service and outstanding valueSo what are you waiting for? Call Hawaii Garage Doors in Honolulu, HI today for more information. From our first meeting, T [redacted] mentioned no company staff member has spoken to him about my issues but I’m sure he was informed after receiving my $checkI then asked, “has any of your three technicians relayed their findings or has your secretary spoke of our repeated conversations”? He replied “Nothing”When questioned about Devon’s separation, T [redacted] responded, “Devon could not work with others”I was taken back by this, contemplating, “who is the boss here?” Secondly, I spoke of AJ, who impressed me as a fine professionalT [redacted] said nothing about AJBut AJ’s last comment to me was he’ll talk with the boss about Devon’s errorI would love to speak to AJ about why he was abruptly terminatedI am appalled Revdex.com Hawaii is not posing these questions to MGD Hawaii/T [redacted] but I can understand why; we don’t expect to gain any truth to T [redacted] ’s testimonies which all have been flagrant liesT [redacted] knows my issues are valid but will deny the acceptance of his company’s error, instead, comes up with continuous weak excuses

This door is the correct size for this opening The opening width is 15’10”, the door is 16’0” wide This customer is fixated on sliver of a bracket that is there to protect the door from contacting the reverse angle I met personally with this customer and gave him various options to diminish the appearance of the bracket and he elected to have us replace his trim with a slightly wider piece of trim Not even hours later he has changed his mind from what he personally agreed to with me in personI will not replace a perfectly functioning door because the client is fixated on a slim strip of metal designed to protect his door Industry standard is to put a door gasket on to hide such imperfections and that option is still available to himHawaii Garage Doors did not establish the standard to make doors inches wider than he opening; that is the standard of Martin Door the manufacturer If the door is any wider than it’s present 16’0” then finished surfaces will make contact with the home or reverse angle, rub them bare, and cause accelerated corrosion. The customer has the right to the three options I provided him in person I am unwilling to do anything beyond them

You cannot have the benefit of agreeing to a proposed price for a proposed scope of work and then renegotiate the price after the fact You asked us for a bid proposal, we complied and gave you a price You agreed to our price We take risk on a bid job versus taking no risk on a time & material job Our company would much prefer time and material jobs; which is what a service call is But when a client wants to know ahead of time how much we will charge to fix their problem we make an educated guess Sometimes it works out in our favor and sometimes it works out in the customers' favor The bottom line is we agreed to a price in advanceWe performed the work to your satisfaction The fact that my technician was able to work through your repair faster than anticipated doesn't give you the right to a credit Had he taken longer or had we had to make subsequent trips to your residence I don't to ask you for more money

Take the door down, remove the brackets that he didn’t like and cut them down and replace those brackets on the door.Or add a weatherstrip piece to the sides of the opening.Or replace his current wood trim with thicker pieces of wood. After having gotten notice of this complaint I went and checked his signed proposal...he ordered a 16’wide door We supplied a 16’wide door He got exactly what he agreed to and what he paid for.Or call [redacted] to schedule a service on your residential garage door or commercial rollup door We are Hawaii's exclusive dealers for Martin Doors residential garage doors and [redacted] commercial doors
