Oak Grove Memorial Mausoleum Reviews (%countItem)

My mom died in Dec 2014 and had already had a crypt at Oak Grove where my dad and grandmother
are also. It was under different management at the time. I paid for her name dates to be on the crypt.
When I went back later to check, her name was not there. Now under new management, I was told I
had not paid for it and would have to provide a paid receipt. The receipt I received had nothing
itemized -- just a cash register receipt with a total. I finally went back again and paid again for the
names and dates. I was told that I would receive an email with a picture of the crypt in about a month.
That seems like an awfully long to glue stick on letters to a crypt, but OK. It is now 3 mos later. I still
hadn't heard so I called today. It is still not done. The first excuse was because of Covid-19. I
explained that I would understand if I had come in Mar but I came in Jan. It should have been done
well before the Covid-19 shut down. Then she said it was because the person who does the
engraving left, coincidentally, just after I paid again to have the name and date put on. I said it's not
engraved. Apparently, the same person does both.
In addition, if you go to the mausoleum, it is a disgrace. The roof is leaking. You can barely walk to
the crypts because of plaster, water and debris that is all over the floor. I think it's full of mold. I know
at one point, they were taking the lids off of the caskets because they couldn't fit in the crupts. I have
no idea if that's happened to my parents and grandparents.
This needs to be investigated. The way they are running this is a sham. My parents paid to have what
they thought was a respectable place to be buried. It is anything but! If you walk through the
mausoleum, you will see quite a list of Who's Who in St Louis history. It's just sad.

Oak Grove Memorial Mausoleum Response • Apr 22, 2020

Good morning,

To whom this may concern. My name is *** I am the general manager at Oak Grove Funeral Home, Mausoleum & Cemetery. Attached you will find a contract that was signed by *** on January 16, 2020, also attached is a photo of *** crypt front which was completed on April 21, 2020. If you have any questions and/or concerns please feel free to contact me through email or phone ***.

My aunt recently died. She lived to be 100 years old. She was also responsible and took care of her financial affairs. When her husband died, in the early 80,s, she purchased a burial plan to the both of them. The plan included two places in a lot and grave markers or headstones for each of them. I have the documents with locations and signed contacts showing PAID.
When I went to finalized the contract arrangement, I was asked for an addition cost of $655.00 to bury my aunt. I made an attempt to explain, with documents, that all services had been paid years ago. I informed them that the payment was not a deposit. It was for full service when needed. Oak Grove insisted that I needed to pay the additional cost. My aunt was to be buried that week. I paid under duress!. Additionally, that requested an additional $250.00 for the plate to with her year of death to be placed at the grave. Her year of birth was already there. I have not paid the additional cost for the marker. I have written them. There has been no response. I feel this is a form of fraud.

aunt *** passed away on July 21, 2019. Wade Funeral home's funeral director *** contacted Oak Grove cemetery about *** owning a grave here and having money in a preneed to go towards the opening and closing of the grave. We then found the record and only $695.00 was paid into the preneed, and opening and closing is $1350.00, so there would be a balance of $655 dollars. The opening and closing of a grave is not a frozen cost, and could go up at any time. The niece to *** was explained all of this when she came to make the payment on the $655 dollars that was owed towards the opening and closing. She was shown the paperwork of the $695 that would be coming from the trust company, and she signed off on the documents and wrote a check for the balance of the opening and closing of her aunts grave. The name plate which she was told was an additional $250 that was not included in the preneed. she was not overcharged for the opening and closing of the grave. A preneed does not freeze the cost of the opening and closing, this was all explained to *** at the time. We would never overcharge a customer. The original contracts are attached and states that the cost are not a frozen cost.
