Occidental Fire & Casualty Company of North Carolina Reviews (5)

Occidental cancelled my homeowner's insurance following only months as a customerThey merely sent a letter in the mail which explained they were cancelling my policy due to "sidewalk cracked and crumbling In need of repairFence damaged and in need of repair." Neither of these issues are actually trueSave your time and money, and find a better insurer

Slowest insurance company! Took weeks foregone to look at my carweeks to approve the totaled solar amountweeks to send me paperwork and im STILL waiting, over two months later, for my checkMean while they have taken money out of my bank after my car was totaled AGAINST my permission and have yet to refund that as wellI do not recommend this

Warning - If you don't receive your check - Your money is lost
They stop your insurance for any minor defect they claim to be present in your house (such as a missing gutter)
This is how they make their money: they only notify you once with a check in the mailIf you don't get/cash that check - your money stays with them
They don't call, they don't re-send a check, they don't notify that check was not cashed
I missed that letter from them and almost lost the moneyIn the future I know to pay a few extra dollars and get a honest insurance company

Occidental Fire & Casualty Claims Dpt??? THEN READ THIS FIRST!!!
The event:
Parked my car in a garage parking lot t workWhile at work someone exiting the garage in a truck hits my car bumper leaving black sticker on my white car and slightly rises my hoodThe driver not only leave his contact card, but also called the police (who denies to come due to the fact that I was not present at the accident) but also contacts his insurance company (OFCC namely) and honestly admits fault and files a claim himself
Not badat least an honest person has hit me right? I visited him at his home and he is willing to take responsibly through his insurance
days latter I call OFCC
After being the slaughtered reviews of this company online I braced myself, even prepared for the worstFull disclosure here: (*** ***) who works for the ***, a 3rd part administrator of OFCC (ohhhh boy) picks upShe identifies the claim number asks for my name and address, site of the incident and damages very politelywhen suddenlyShe lets is drop
The status of this persons policy on the date of the accident was discontinued and we will not provide coverageI didn't expect any less from the reviews I had read onlineShe was very short, and with a very different tone of voice now
Further, she said that this case cannot be assigned to a claim adjuster (if this person exists) beucause of the status of the policy
Obviously this makes me wonder, why would this person go in so far as calling the police, leaving his information, and making a claim and admitting fault if his policy is inactive? I truly don't have the answer to that question
Right now, I believe he is insured and OFCC is scamming people here
I asked *** for more information? What kind of policy was this? When was it discontinued, if so why? NOTHING, not a peep of informationThe only thing she concluded is that OFCC or this 3rd party company will send a denial letter, two sentences long saying what I already knowthat they policy is discontinued and therefore no coverage
Conclusion:
Like the rest of the reviews, this company is very sketchAnd be ware of a quick denial of coverage of an inactive policyThis can be a trend worth fighting forI know I will fight it with legal actionBut so that others are aware and informed
Im am very glad this was essentially a scratch on my bumper, and not a death scene in a highway
Final Remarks
I rarely write any reviews, but I hope this at the very least gives you a framework of what to expect and maybe how to prepare when encountering a claim through these immoral companies
- I did not edit this so forgive the grammar etc

Occidental cancelled my homeowner's insurance following only 2 months as a customer. They merely sent a letter in the mail which explained they were cancelling my policy due to "sidewalk cracked and crumbling In need of repair. Fence damaged and in need of repair." Neither of these issues are actually true. Save your time and money, and find a better insurer.
