Odd Job Larry Reviews (%countItem)

Hired this company and gave them a opportunity to finish my building and do repairs
and complete this from the damages. I talked with *** the representive and we went over everything that needed to be completed by the Insurance company *** insurance company. Odd Job Larry needed to follow this form (Insurance paper work) to follow the procedures from the Insurance company!! They agreed on doing so, but now they say painting isn't included? It was on the forms and now
they are arguing with us about completing the job to the fullest! We feel that
the business is taking advantage of us, plus the insurance company.. We agreed on a lower price and the business put a higher price on the job? They lied about that, now their lying about painting on the job site. Being my husband is on disability, they had taken advantage of him! I feel we picked the wrong contractor, they are asking for more money now. They are trying to Con me and the insurance company as well...Only thing we agreed on paying was for the carpet and installation of it.

We were hired by Mr. to repair some water damage to a space in a commercial building of his. He met with one of our salespeople at the building. The scope of work he requested us to perform consisted of: insulation, drywall, flooring, ceiling grid repair and ceiling tiles installation, as well as installation of baseboard, shoe moulding, door casing and detaching and resetting a toilet. No painting was included, nor was there ever an agreement to complete any work exactly as some insurance paperwork stated.
The scope of work, which we put costs together for, came directly from Mr. as we walked through his space and he pointed what he desired to have repaired. Mrs. was not present at the walk through, nor present for the discussion of scope of work at any time. Mr. went as far as to explain that he did not want us to perform certain parts of the work. He explicitly said that he didn't need us to perform any painting, which was why painting was not included in our contract. Our signed contract specifically points out “painting by others”, as that is what Mr. desired.
Mr. had previously filed a claim with his insurance company and received a settlement from them, before we were ever contacted. We were not instructed by Mr. to explicitly follow insurance paperwork that, in fact, we never even had the opportunity to take the insurance paperwork with us to review. We do not have a contract with his insurance company, and the insurance paperwork he has is not a contract between Mr. and Odd Job Larry. The insurance settlement is strictly between him and the insurance company.
We always provide explicit, detailed contracts to our clients, which list everything that's included and the cost, and that is exactly what we provided to The ***. He actually had the contract in his possession for 3 weeks before ultimately moving forward. When we presented the initial contract, it was reviewed with him. Again, the contract was in their hands for 3 weeks before deciding to move forward, giving them ample time to review it and ask for any changes to the scope of work he may have wanted. In fact, Mr. did review it and he did request a change. He wanted to lower the overall cost. We made a suggestion to alter the flooring scope which would reduce his costs, and he agreed and his wife signed off on those changes with her initials and signature. Those were the only changes between the two contracts and we proceeded with the revised final version. Any implication that the *** didn’t know what was in the contract is complete and utter nonsense.
Now that all the agreed upon work is nearly complete, and with his final balance about to be due, Mr. is claiming we need to perform additional, non-contracted work, non-paid work. He threatened not to pay us until we did everything he wanted, regardless of contract or not. This is the point where we needed to remove our remaining gear and supplies and try to work out this problem amicably.
Having a productive conversation with him is next to impossible. He just yells, screams, swears and uses obscenities, constantly threatens to sue, threatened us with filing a complaint with the Revdex.com, which he now has, and even contact channel 6 news. He has been extremely irrational and abusive in our multiple attempts to resolve this with him peacefully.
He has been calling us liars, screaming at us that people need to be fired and uses excessive amounts of abusive and vulgar cursing and saying *** YOU repeatedly, leaving vulgar messages for our staff on voicemails, and claiming we are trying to defraud him and his insurance company. He also has made wild claims that we took advantage of him due to a disability he may have. We take serious issue with this, since we take pride in providing our services for the disabled and elderly, we have performed hundreds of jobs for disabled and elderly citizens to their satisfaction and without complaint. In fact, we satisfied thousands of clients and have never experienced anyone like ***.
We even took it one step further, and had our lawyer, which was also Mr. attorney, ask to meet with all of us and try to work this out. Mr., once again, began to get angry and yell and would not meet to handle this problem with us.
We are NOT asking for more money to finish the job, as The *** have stated. We only explained that the additional work Mr. now wants, and was not included in our detailed proposal, which they read and signed. We have told them that if they would like more work done that what’s on the contract, there would simply be some additional charges. A copy of the specifications of the contract is included- it does not list any of the additional work Mr. is expecting to have us do for free. We will not be bullied into working for free- we have a responsibility to our many employees and their families to charge for our services.
We have explained that we would be happy to finish the job as we agreed, which is outlined in our detailed, signed contract, and that we are paid all the monies owed for completing the work we all agreed that Odd Job Larry would perform. Mr., however, continues to respond with more yelling, screaming, vulgar cursing, threats and false assumptions and has told us repeatedly that he will not pay us another dime until all the work is done they way he wants it, even though some of that work is not in our contact. We would like the *** to honor the contract they agreed to, the terms they agreed to and for the cost they agreed to so that we can have resolution.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

We hired Odd Job Larry, to repair our building with every intention that they were a honest and fair business. *** met up with *** a employee with odd job Larry and gave him a copy of the insurance estimate from ***insurance and repeatedly asked him to go off this form for the repairs!*** reassured he would do this, he took it with him and *** even made notes on the paperwork and returned it back to me.. He did make himself clear he went along with the *** paperwork. We did agree I would take care of the middle room and install the carpet.. I even walk through the building to make sure that he understood what I wanted done!!! I wanted Odd Job Larry to do all the repairs and painting. I would take care of the carpet and installation. He reassured me everything is written down on the contact on what I asked for and with the insurance estimate. When Mrs. and I, *** met up with *** and *** from this business we did question them on work he stated that wasn't on contract, and *** the employee even admitted on his miss communication on what *** wanted.... He made a mistake, and *** ( half owner) said he would stand behind his employee's mistake,. We are upset that they didn't explicitly follow the insurance form as ask and told to from ***. *** wasn't there for walk through or discussion on work to be preformed in my building... what he is hearing is from his employee, that did admit he made a mistake....The day we met up with ***, ODD JOB LARRY as Josh was explaining himself *** did get upset because he really felt that he wasn't telling the truth! And did say he was lying! Never did I say ***!! I did walk out of building because of my blood pressure was getting up and I wasn't feeling well.... And yes I did mention my health problems to***, and that's why I wanted this company to do everything instead of hiring out multiple people for different jobs...They accepted from me $9500.00 and I really can't see for that amount of money they took on what they have did? I understand from that amount they bought materials for my store front and they used some, without our knowledge they took the material out of our building that was purchased by us! I feel that is stealing!! They said they took it because of the stop on working, until we come to some sort of agreement? We looked at some of the material they have installed on our property, the installation they put up doesn't look new? The lights didn't look new either. I'm requesting receipts for the purchases... The work that they have done, it doesn't look like a professional company with experiences did the work! I feel they took advantage of me because of my health issues and my overall disabilities...We don't want them at all on our property, their contract that I did sign and asked Josh to go over with me but he didn't have time to do so isn't very clear . I did hire a attorney to represent me with this issue and hopefully that will help to resolve this situation...I'm requesting that they put in a insurance claim on the work that did so far that isn't up to professional standards... I have had professionals looking at their work and they basically laughed on their workmanship...Sincerely your

This nonsense about taking advantage of the *** is complete absurdity. We have directed our attorney to begin actions for defamation as Mr. continues to make slanderous comments to others as well as libelous written statements in this forum. He is doing this simply to damage our reputation. He has threatened us with bad publicity from the first time he wanted us to work for him and not get paid according to the signed, contracted agreement. He has made mistakes in his understanding of insurance and thought that he can bully our reputable company into working for free and would like us to pay for his problems.
The rest of the comments he has made in this response were discussed in his initial writings. Each one of the incorrect conclusions has been corrected in our initial response. We have dealt with his incorrect facts in each of these areas:
He left the meeting with HIS OWN insurance documentation- we DID NOT have it.
His insurance issues are between the *** AND their insurance company- nothing at all to do with us.
We never said we made any kind of mistake on scope or contract.
The *** had the contract for 3 weeks before signing, and had more than enough opportunity to question, discuss, or change anything they desired.
The material and supplies were removed from the property only AFTER the *** said they would not pay us any more money. They haven’t paid for the material to this date.
We have tried to work this out with them, but they don’t seem to be interested in a fair and valid solution.
Each and every one of these bulleted areas above were corrected in our initial response, and just because Mr. chooses to repeat them again and again does not change his incorrect assumptions. We have engaged an attorney and will deal with the *** in the court system.

Mr ***s complaint is not factual. As soon as he had a concern, we were in communication with our employee on site trying to understand what the concern was so we could contact Mr *** and work out a resolution. This communication takes some time due to needing to location the appropriate people and get a hold of them. We did this in a very timely manner. Mr *** called our office and engaged in yelling and swearing at our office staff for several minutes stating that we need to complete the work that day or give him a refund. He then hung up the phone without allowing for any conversation. We called Mr *** back within minutes to attempt to communicate with him and understand the concern he was having, but again he was not interested in having a conversation to find a resolution, continued to yell and scream and this time demanded a full refund and hung up on us.

Mr ***'s refund was issued to him the same day he requested it. We mailed him a check for a full refund and that check has since cleared.

Mr. both signed and initialed in agreement on his proposal to the exact plan that we arrived ready to perform that morning with the exception that the window well we purchased was taller than the dimensions we had in our contract. The taller window well would not have had a visual or financial impact on Mr ***, we were just going to dig down a little deeper and keep the finish height and visible portion at the same level. Mr. was not charged for the larger, more expensive material, nor was he charged for any additional digging time, so there was no change to the cost or visual look for Mr..

We were prepared to complete the work Mr. signed and initialed his approval for, we arrived on the scheduled day at the scheduled time. We are still not sure the real reason why Mr *** reacted that way that day. Even though we didn't believe we made any mistakes, and even though we accrued real reimbursable expenses and costs that day, we still decided to issue Mr. the a full refund.
