Oesco, Inc Reviews (2)

Oesco sells Lancman bladder presses online and at their store.Their online website provides inaccurate and misleading information regarding the capacity of their bladder presses. For example, the 80 Liter bladder press is described to have the capacity of 4.5 bushels of apples. This is impossible because based on US weights and measures, 1 bushel = 35.2 Liters. Therefore 4.5 bushels - 158.4 liters. From this data they go on to inaccurately post the hourly cider production.Desired SettlementUpdate information on website to reflect true and accurate product information on all the Lancman bladder presses based on the publicly accepted standard of measures of 1 bushel = 35.2 Liters.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted]Contact Phone: [redacted]Contact Email: [redacted]We inadvertently put "dry capacity" on our website when describing the volume of the Lancman presses. What the 80 liters represents is the "liquid capacity" of the press because the apples need to be ground before going into the press. One bushel of whole apples (dry capacity) equals 19 liters of ground apples (liquid capacity). 4.5 bushels of whole apples equals 85 liters of ground apples. This is how the 80 liter capacity is determined. We apologize for the misleading information and will correct our website immediately. Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Please refer me to the standard you arrived at that 4.5 bushels of apples equals 85 liters of ground apples. My research shows there is no accepted term defined as "liquid capacity" provided by the standard US Weights and Measures. "Ground apples" has no equivalent in liquid capacity. "Ground apples" is a subjective measure. First of all, the type of grinding will determine the final density and thus volume. Were the ground apples soaked in apple juice and pectic enzyme over night? Or were the ground apples(say 1/2"x1/2" chunks) immediately placed in the press? Grinding apples too small will allow for higher density but can affect the performance of the apple press(juice becomes overly cloudy). Just as we would not press whole apples, we also would not press apple sauce. In addition, when the "ground apples" are placed in the press, there is no standard amount of pressure required to fill the press.Although it is informative to provide an estimate of the number of bushels the 80L apple press could handle, a dry measure should never be provided unless it can be backed it up with references as to where/how those conversions were obtained.Final Business Response The standards we use are based on our own trials using our grinding equipment which has been in use for sixty years. Volume results may vary based on the apple processing method used and the variety and maturity of the apples. We now have included that on our website. We provide the approximate bushel capacity of the presses on our website because people who look there or call us are always asking us how many bushel boxes of GROUND apples will fit in the press.
