Mr***'s daughter had four wisdom teeth extracted on May 20, 2016. The work was performed by Dr***, a general dentist who limits his practice to oral surgery and provides IV sedation. Lindsay, who is our treatment coordinator, explained to Mr*** that Dr*** was not an
oral surgeon but a general dentist. Mr*** was given a 25% discount off of the extraction fees that his insurance company allows and was charged additional for the IV sedation. There is no interest fee but a management fee for allowing payment of the balance over a four month period. Mr*** agreed to the terms and signed the appropriate financial paperwork. We understand that Mr***'s complaint is not with the quality of the work performed by Dr***, but instead centers on a concern that he was not notified that Dr*** was not "in-network" with his insurance. When we refer patients for treatment that is beyond our scope, we are not obligated to verify whether the provider is in-network or our-or-network. Given that, we still understand that Mr*** believes based on information from his insurance company that his extractions would have cost him less had he been "in-network". As a goodwill gesture we are willing to adjust $off of his account balance, as our goal was certainly for his daughter to have excellent care and not to be deceptive about his insurance. There will be one more credit card payment of $processed on July 15, and then the account will be paid in full
