Suncraft has been in business for more than years. We have many thousands of satisfied customers. Every once in a while, we encounter an unreasonable client with unrealistic expectations
We believe this customer is fabricating these complaints because he is trying to weasel
out of paying us the money he owes. He never complained about the quality of work until we requested the final payment There is nothing unethical about the way we conducted business with him. We did not take his money and forget about him as he states Suncraft acted in complete accordance with our written agreement as we always do. We did more work than required in an effort to please him. The sunroom we built for him is absolutely beautiful. We have many photos of his project and we routinely use them to show prospective clients
This customer’s actions and demands caused significant delays prior to and during construction. The dates and timelines cited by this customer are not entirely correct. This customer first contacted Suncraft on 4/10/14. After more than a month of meetings and negotiations, he signed a contract on 5/15/14. After we had the plans drawn, he called and said he wanted to make more changes. We met him again on 6/10/and wrote a new contract reflecting the changes he wanted. Then, we had to re-draw new plans which he approved on 6/16/14. We always did everything in our power to accommodate him. HIS CHANGE OF MIND CAUSED A DAY DELAY IN GETTING A PERMIT. IT ALSO PUSHED HIS PROJECT INTO OUR BUSIEST SEASON
We DID NOT tell him construction would start within to weeks. We did say it takes approximately to weeks to obtain a permit. Although his permit application is dated 8/8/14, he is overlooking the time and effort we spent in the pre-permit process. There were a number of steps we had to complete before we were could apply for his building permit. We had to draw detailed construction plans. We also had to measure his property and draw a site plan because he could not furnish us with a survey. Then, we had to submit for and wait to receive a zoning permit. Because he has a well and septic, we were required to take field measurements and create a diagram which was submitted to Franklin County Board of Health for approval. All this had to be done before we could apply for a building permit. This process takes time. WE TRIED TO EXPLAIN THIS TO HIM WHEN HE CALLED ON AUGUST 4TH BUT HE REFUSED TO LISTEN. INSTEAD, HE JUST WANTED TO ARGUE
We never told him his project would be built in weeks. That statement makes no sense. It would be impossible to do that. His sunroom measures 17‘x40’ with a complicated roof system. It was not an aluminum kit room like he had before. Contrary to his claims, we did not build it on the same foundation and footprint. During demolition, we discovered that his existing floors were rotten and unsuitable for use. Even though our agreement indicated that we build on top of the old floors and foundations, we completely removed them and built new from the ground up. WE DID NOT CHARGE HIM ADDITIONAL TO BUILD THE NEW FLOORS
Once construction began, our work progressed rapidly. However, this customer’s actions and requirements caused significant construction delaysWe were unable to send our electrician when we were ready because this customer requested last minute changes to the electric plan. After giving this customer the price, he decided to leave the electric “as is” because he didn’t want to pay extra for the changes. Then, when our electrician arrived, this customer told him to leave because it wasn’t a good time for him. THIS CUSTOMER’S CHANGE OF MIND AND ACTIONS CAUSED A CONSTRUCTION DELAY
This customer also wanted to insulate the sunroom himself instead of paying us to do it. It took him more than two weeks to complete the insulation work. THIS CUSTOMER’S ACTIONS CAUSED ANOTHER BIG CONSTRUCTION DELAY
It was extremely difficult communicating with this customer and building his project. This customer would not allow us to work unless we pre-arranged it with him. Every time we were ready to send workers or obtain an inspection, we had to coordinate a date and time with him which often meant waiting a week or more until it fit in with his schedule. When we called him, he seldom answered the phone. When we showed up to work at his house, we were either turned away because we were inconveniencing him or we couldn’t get in because his house was locked and he wouldn’t answer the door. This caused inordinate hardship and unpredictable work scheduling. THIS CUSTOMER’S REFUSAL TO ALLOW US TO WORK EXCEPT AT TIMES HE APPROVED IS DIRECTLY IN BREACH OF OUR CONTRACT
A progress payment in the amount of $14,was due when we started work. He was more than two weeks late paying us. The next payment in the amount of $14,was due when the shingles were installed. He ignored us and refused to pay this one. He made us wait until we were finishing the interior before giving us a check. THIS CUSTOMER DID NOT MAKE HIS PAYMENTS ON TIME
We completed his project quite some time ago. We scheduled the Final building inspection for December 15, 2014. Afterwards, the building inspector told us he didn’t sign the final because this customer wanted a section of gutter installed on his house where it was missing. Even though it was unrelated to our job and not included, we agreed to do it. Freezing temperatures kept us from installing the gutter until the end of January. THEN, THE FINAL INSPECTION WAS APPROVED BY FRANKLIN COUNTY
On February 9th, our salesman contacted this customer (after many unsuccessful attempts) to schedule a final walk-thru and collect the final payment. Our salesman told me this customer said he’s not paying Suncraft and then hung up the phone. Our salesman also told me this customer did not mention a punch list or anything else pertaining to the project. THIS CUSTOMER STILL OWES SUNCRAFT $4,

This customer’s long-winded story changes every time he tells it. The fact is we built his sunroom in accordance with our written agreement and the plans he signed and it is absolutely beautiful
It was extremely difficult communicating with this customer and building his project. He is a very stubborn and unhappy man. He refused to allow us to work unless we pre-arranged it with him. Every time we were ready to send workers or obtain an inspection, we had to coordinate a date and time with him which often meant waiting a week or more until it fit in with his “schedule”. When we called him, he seldom answered the phone. When we showed up to work at his house, we were either turned away because we were inconveniencing him or we couldn’t get in because his house was locked and he wouldn’t answer the door. This caused us inordinate hardship and unpredictable work scheduling. This customer’s refusal to allow us to work except at times he approved and his failure to pay us is in direct breach of our contract
After we completed construction and passed the final inspection, this customer sent us a letter saying he was not going to pay us and he was going to hire another contractor to “finish the job”. We responded by sending him a certified letter requesting a meeting so we could see what he was talking about. We told him we would remedy any items he felt required attention, providing they were legitimate. We DID NOT get a response from him
His project is 100% complete and built in accordance with our contract and plans he signed. All building inspections have been approved including the final building inspection
This customer still has not paid us the final payment

I am rejecting this response because: The Suncraft response does not address the reasons I am dis-satisfied with this unprofessional and possibly unethical company.  I repeatedly complained to my salesman about the quality of the work as  it was progressing.  Suncraft claims that my sunroom is "absolutely beautiful" and they have many photos of the project and "routinely use them to show prospective clients" .  I have attached photos of my project to substantiate the poor quality claims.  Can Suncraft provide the photos they are using to show prospective clients?  I don't believe those exist. My problem with the timeline of this project begins when Suncraft took my money on 6/10/14 and didn't begin the project until October.  I understand that our changes pushed the start date back.  That is not my issue, my issue is the 4 months you had my money and didn't do any work between June and October and your complete lack of communication during that time.   I paid the preconstruction payment on 6/10/14.The Suncraft  salesman sat at our dining room table and told us CONSTRUCTION would probably begin in 6 to 8 weeks from receipt of the preconstruction payment.  You had detailed construction plans on 6/16.  If you have plans different than the copy of those plans that I have, could you please provide the new "detailed construction plans"  that took so much time to prepare in the permit process?  I don't believe they exist.   Suncraft never asked me to provide a survey.  I don't recall anyone from Suncraft measuring my property and drawing a site plan.  Can Suncraft please provide a copy of the site plan that was drawn?  I don't believe it exists. Suncraft claims to have taken field measurements to create a diagram submitted to Franklin County Board of Health.  Can Suncraft provide a copy of the diagram that was created?  The Franklin County Health inspector came to my home and said he didn't have enough information from Suncraft to approve the permit.  Can Suncraft provide a timeline for this 4 month process? The Suncraft salesman told us the construction would probably take 2 weeks.  The square footage of our sunroom is 496 sq. ft. not 680 sq. ft. as indicated in the Suncraft response.  The complicated roof system was not in our original concept, it was suggested by the owner of Suncraft.  The new rooms are on the same foundation and footprint as the old rooms.  Suncraft used the existing floor joists in one part of the project.  It was the Suncraft owner's decision to tear out the other floor joists even though there was no sign of any damage when they tore out the plywood flooring.  Suncraft's statement that they didn't build on the same footprint is absolutely false.  Part of the new room is sitting on a pre-existing concrete block foundation and is the same size as the old room.  The other part of the new room is the same size as the old room and is sitting on the same footprint because it is surrounded by a pre-existing deck.  The electrician that Suncraft sent was hired for the job that morning.  He showed up unannounced on a Friday afternoon at 3 pm and indicated that he was told that Suncraft would call us to let us know he would be showing up.  We were having a dinner that evening in our dining room which is on the other side of patio doors that leads into the area where he would be working and when I asked him how much time he was planning on spending on the job that day, he said he would probably be there until around 9 pm.  I explained the situation to him and asked him if he could leave by 5 pm.  He said he would and asked about working the over the weekend and he worked on Saturday and Sunday.  If I had received a courtesy call advising us that Suncraft wanted to send someone over that afternoon, I would have explained the same thing to Suncraft, but as the owner advised me when I called him after waiting 8 weeks for something to happen or someone to update me on my project, "Suncraft doesn't do business that way."I did have the insulation work done by someone other than Suncraft because I know how to call a random company to sub-contract work just like the owner of Suncraft did with the electrician.  Suncraft claims it took "more than two weeks" and my "actions caused another big construction delay"  The facts are; the rough electric inspection was done in the afternoon on Wednesday 11/12/14. The insulation was done on Wednesday 11/19/14 and the Insulation inspection was done on 11/20/14.  This is a period of 5 working days.  Thursday 11/13 - Thursday 11/20.  Not more than 2 weeks, it was 5 days.  Based on Suncraft's methods of operation, I think I got it done faster than Suncraft could have.I did repeatedly ask for a courtesy call before Suncraft sent anyone to our home so we could arrange to be there.  There were no courtesy calls. Workers would randomly show up unannounced.  In spite of Suncraft's lack of professionalism in this respect, I am not aware of any sub contractor showing up and being turned away with the exception of the roofers Suncraft sent 3 days before the roof framing was finished.  If Suncraft showed up without calling in advance it is possible that the house was locked because we were not home. The $14,200.00 progress payment was made on 10/21/14 after the Suncraft salesman called to set up a time to stop by and pick up the check.  The last progress payment was made on 11/21/14 and I did wait to see if someone was actually going to show up and finish the work.  I was so disgusted with Suncraft by this point that I didn't worry about initiating payments.  I waited for them to realize a payment was due.  Being the well-oiled machine that is Suncraft, it took them a couple of weeks each time. The building inspector would not sign off on the final inspection because it was raining when he showed up and water was cascading off the garage roof next to the new sunroom.  He asked me if that had always happened and I told him that it started after Suncraft tied into the garage roof (see attached photos).  The inspector said that would have to be repaired before he would sign off.  That is what he told Suncraft and that is why Suncraft installed the gutter.  There is still repair work to be done on the garage roof and the gazebo due to Suncraft's incompetance. On February 9th, the Suncraft salesman called and said Suncraft was finished with the job and he wanted to stop by and pick up the check.  He made no mention of a final walk-through.  I was so disgusted and frustrated trying to work with Suncraft that I told him I would not make the final payment.  He asked me if I was sure I wanted to do that and I indicated that I was.  He then told me that he would let the owner know.  Our conversation was over and we both hung up.  The Suncraft salesman is lying when he says he didn't know about a punch list.  Not only did we discuss several issues I had with the project, but he assured me they would be taken care of before the project was considered finished.  They have not been taken care of as of Friday, March 13, 2014.Due to the unexplained delay in starting, the shoddy workmanship, the rude owner, the unpredictability of the work schedule and the inconvenience, frustration and anxiety caused by Suncraft, Suncraft should consider this contract closed with no further payment due.Regards,
