Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 8, 2016/02/16) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from...

the business.)
It was done at [redacted] downey ford. The extended warranty did cover the starter .. Except the $[redacted] deductible im still not happy with this however due to the ongoing issues with this vehicle .. 1 thing after another
Final Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2016/02/17) */
The vehicle has a dual clutch transmission which is unlike a normal step transmission. it is the newest technology that is two manual transmissions linked with a dry clutch. This transmission is being used by [redacted] as it gets the best combination of fuel economy and power. It does have characteristic's that are unlike a normal step transmission. When we sell these vehicles we go through the transmission design and functionality, it is part of our [redacted] literature as to avoid any undue concern or stress to the client. The vehicle is performing as designed is not in any way broken. I have included the ford performance characteristic outlined in our delivery literature and our demonstration material.
"VEHICLE DELIVERY AFTER FINAL REPAIR
Explain the following to the customer:
1. [redacted](*) transmission benefits
Enhanced fuel efficiency delivering 7-9%
improvement over a traditional automatic.
Fun-to-drive performance, by shifting quickly
and producing continuous torque to the drive
wheels.
Low maintenance, no special operating
condition requirements, fewer parts.
2. Driving characteristics
1,500 km break-in period where slight vibration
may be felt during acceleration from low
speeds while the transmission continuously
makes adjustments to optimize shift quality.
Firm gearshifts when moving accelerator pedal
back and forth quickly.
Slight vibrations when accelerating at low
speeds.
Mechanical sounds after the engine is turned off.
3. Operating tips
When accelerating from a stop, a quicker
acceleration will provide the smoothest clutch
operation.
While driving in stop-and-go traffic, allow some
room between yourself and the vehicle ahead
of you. Not only is this always a good safety tip,
it will also allow you to keep your car moving
along smoothly.
If stopped on an incline, keep your foot on the
brake pedal until you are ready to pull away
from the stop. Allowing the car to creep on a
slight incline without accelerating can cause
the clutch wear.
NOTE: Conditions are amplified when the
transmission clutch becomes hot. Some driving
conditions can lead to more heat including stop and
go traffic, riding the brake, hot climates and hilly or
mountainous environments.
Having said that [redacted] has tried to ease customers who are uncomfortable with these characteristics by changing clutch material, seals and different PCM programming. I can provide the part numbers to show that there are different part numbers that [redacted] has issued in an attempt to make the vehicle perform more like a transmission that people are used to. They would be more akin to an update on your phone or your computer. The "fixes" are designed to make the car act more like a vehicle with older technology and be more palatable to the customer. I am so confident in this transmission I am willing to extend the warranty on it to 150,000km or 72 months. The starter issue is certainly unfortunate, however the transmission and the starter are not related in any way. The warranty start date was 11 September 2012 so the starter is outside of the basic warranty coverage. As mentioned to show [redacted] that we are confident that her transmission isn't a reliability issue I can and will provide an extended warranty on that transmission. Please advise if this is something that she would like to have put in place. I can be reached at Downey [redacted] or by email at [redacted]@downeys.ca. If you require the documents to support my explanation please advise and I will upload them.
Best regards

[redacted] These are not reliable cars and do not feel safe driving it .. This isnt a new complaint this is the same complaints ive had all along. May seem that im being petty but realistically ive had nothing but issues. Even the inner wheel wall 'fell' last year and it was replaced, again this year it has come out again .. So thats out of my pocket? Not very fair .... Too much is going on with that car and has gone wrong. [redacted]
