Ms[redacted] had her car towed to our shop with the complaint of the vehicle not starting, she did state that she thought it was because of the shifter cable, but at our suggestion she allowed us to diagnose the vehicle to see what we found to be the problemOur service manager did price quote her for a shifter cable since she thought that might be the problemWhen the vehicle arrived we did notice that the shifter cable had been removed from the transmission, but further investigation brought us to the conclusion that the tow truck driver was not able to get the car out of gear to tow it onto the truck and had popped the shifter cable off the transmission in order to get the vehicle onto the tow truckThe tow truck driver could not get the vehicle out of gear because there was no power to half of the underhood fuse block, and the shift interlock would not allow the gear shift to move because it did not have power supplied to it from the fuse blockWe diagnosed that there was lack of power at the fuse block due to a faulty ignition switchWe charged Ms[redacted] hours labor for the combination of vehicle diagnostics (hours) and the AllData labor time of hours to replace the ignition switchMs [redacted] also paid $for the tow to the shop, and $which all together came to $after taxDid we touch the shifter cable? Yes we did, we found that the cable was disconnected from the car and popped it back into place, it uses a ball and socket style connection and seemed to be fine after we were able to get the car runningMs[redacted] had brought the car back to our shop days after repair and complained about driveability concerns concerning the vehicles idle speed, the vehicle has 239,miles on it and we told her there were other issues on the car that would need serviced to make it run better, but that we had in fact got her car running again as requestedWe are willing to look at the gear shift cable for free to determine if it needs to be replacedWe will look at the gear shift cable at no charge to see if it does in fact need to be replaced

a shifter cable since she thought that might be the problem. When the vehicle arrived we did notice that the shifter cable had been removed from the transmission, but further investigation brought us to the conclusion that the tow truck driver was not able to get the car out of gear to tow it onto the truck and had popped the shifter cable off the transmission in order to get the vehicle onto the tow truck. The tow truck driver could not get the vehicle out of gear because there was no power to half of the underhood fuse block, and the shift interlock would not allow the gear shift to move because it did not have power supplied to it from the fuse block. We diagnosed that there was lack of power at the fuse block due to a faulty ignition switch. We charged Ms.[redacted] 2.5 hours labor for the combination of vehicle diagnostics (1.3 hours) and the AllData labor time of 1.2 hours to replace the ignition switch. Ms. [redacted] also paid $75 for the tow to the shop, and $63.96 which all together came to $382.43 after tax. Did we touch the shifter cable? Yes we did, we found that the cable was disconnected from the car and popped it back into place, it uses a ball and socket style connection and seemed to be fine after we were able to get the car running. Ms.[redacted] had brought the car back to our shop days after repair and complained about driveability concerns concerning the vehicles idle speed, the vehicle has 239,722 miles on it and we told her there were other issues on the car that would need serviced to make it run better, but that we had in fact got her car running again as requested. We are willing to look at the gear shift cable for free to determine if it needs to be replaced. We will look at the gear shift cable at no charge to see if it does in fact need to be replaced.
