Oliver Finley Academy of Cosmetology Reviews (3)

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: There are only things said in Cheri's comments that are true-that I took a minute break after the first hrs in the chair and the shock of seeing my blond hair turned black & gray, and that I told the front desk I felt like I was going to have a nervous breakdown because I was having having a panic attack, I also told them that I was being treated very rudely by Cheri, who by the way left before the job was even done! Everything else Cheri said is a flat out lie! I was not rude, in fact I told the girl who did my hair not to feel bad because she was very nice but that it was ruined and I would have to get it fixed somewhere elseMy hair was in great condition and I showed them picture on their kiosk at the front desk which they said they could doThey were supposed to do the roots and they did ALL of my hairCheri came by the chair once during the foiling process and asked the student if she was doing ok then walked awayI could not wait until they re-opened to fix it because I had to work in a professional office and could not be seen looking like I had a halloween with wig on, also there's no way I was going to let them ruin my hair even more a third time.Sincerely, [redacted]

Response from Oliver Finley Academy of Cosmetology (January 26th, 2017)
re: *** *** Salon visit
First; it’s important to point out that we are a licensure school for Cosmetology and that the Student salon & spa for the public, is a practice facility for services that
students are learning and perfecting
It is clearly stated on all of our marketing materials used for the Salon/Spa that all services are performed by students and supervised by licensed InstructorsThe prices charged for all services are well below regular salon pricing to reflect that very same business practice/philosophyAs well, it is clearly marked with a 4ft by 10ft wall sign when entering the Salon, that it is a student classroom facility
We help thousands of clients every year with services here and receive top-notch reviews in most casesBecause we are a school though; there are times when services take longer, need extra Instructor attention and even sometimes a re-scheduled “correction” visitIt is a natural part of being a learning facility
Our highest priority here is the education of our Students and providing them with Salon clients that treat them well and help nurture a fair, solid learning environmentWe feel that *** *** did the opposite of that during her visit on the 21st, (with regard to treating our staff and students in a respectful manner) and will address that in greater detail below

*Our Artistic Director Cheri C***, the Instructor that helped with ***’s visit, provided this feedback regarding the salon visit in question
Cheri’s comments:
On Saturday, January 21st; *** *** came in to Oliver Finley Academy for a color serviceShe was uncertain before starting as to what she wanted (saying she wanted her blonde much lighter but she also wanted to be able to see brown throughout since she felt she had no dimension in her hair)We spent close to minutes on our consultation, looked at pictures, discussed with *** what we thought she “should do” and upon her agreement; proceeded with a Hilite retouch while adding a small number of LowlitesIt should be noted that regardless of her assertions in the complaint she filed, the integrity of her hair was poor/damaged “prior” to her visit hereIt was part of why the consultation took so long, determining how to proceed while minimizing further chemical service damage
During ***’s service, the student got mixed up with her application pattern and did indeed add too many Lowlites***’s hair came out darker than she wanted and I assured her we would work with her to correct itI also reminded her that this is a school and the students are learning.
She became very agitated at this pointShe said things like “I am going to have a nervous breakdown”, “I’m going to have a stroke”, “I am going to have a heart attack”, etc
She called both the student and myself a *** during her time here on campusShe left the building during the service to go to her car for a cigarette, came back in informed the front desk staff how she was not going to pay for the serviceShe continued to be overly rude throughout the rest of the service.
It is incredibly non-productive and often hurtful for our students to be subjected to this type of unacceptable behavior from a Salon client, regardless of what is happening with a service
We began a corrective service at this point and again tried to assure her that we would indeed correct it, but her attitude was that it was not going to be right no matter what we didAt 5:00pm, we told her there would be no charge for the visit and that she could reschedule for Tuesday (when we open again)We would continue to work on her correction and ensure the integrity of her hair.
However, she got up and walked out without rescheduling

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: There are only 2 things said in Cheri's comments that are true-that I took a 5 minute break after the first 4 hrs in the chair and the shock of seeing my blond hair turned black & gray, and that I told the front desk I felt like I was going to have a nervous breakdown because I was having having a panic attack, I also told them that I was being treated very rudely by Cheri, who by the way left before the job was even done! Everything else Cheri said is a flat out lie!  I was not rude, in fact I told the girl who did my hair not to feel bad because she was very nice but that it was ruined and I would have to get it fixed somewhere else. My hair was in great condition and I showed them 1 picture on their kiosk at the front desk which they said they could do. They were supposed to do the roots and they did ALL of my hair. Cheri came by the chair once during the foiling process and asked the student if she was doing ok then walked away. I could not wait until they re-opened to fix it because I had to work in a professional office and could not be seen looking like I had a halloween with wig on, also there's no way I was going to let them ruin my hair even more a third time.Sincerely,[redacted]
