To whom it may concern, Thank you for contacting us regarding the complaint that Lisa *** regarding a water heater that we installed for her and her husband. We installed an AO Smith gallon regular draft water heater as we have on many houses in the years that
we have been in business. The pilot went out twice in about a six month period. We sent two of our plumbers over to the house to try to figure out what the issue was and both of them saw nothing wrong with the heater itself, we spoke to AO Smith and were told it is most likely a venting issue and not a water heater issue (the new water heaters are much more sensitive to vent pressure issues than the older models due to tighter government regulations). This being the case, after the *** pressed the issue, we talked to the our commercial water heater rep and I was able to get him to look at this heater since we have a very good relationship with him and I personally have been dealing with him for 20+ years, even prior to starting my own company. This was above and beyond what he had to do as it is a residential heater and he deals with larger heaters. That being said, he met me at the *** residence on 2/21. He tested the vent for the water heater when the furnace turned on and the water heater flue did not draft properly for a very brief period. He made some suggestions as to how this could possibly be rectified. At his suggestion, we took apart the customer's vent piping (which was existing) and modified at our cost. Please keep in mind that this was most likely happening with the old heater but the as mentioned before, the new heaters are much more sensitive to vent pressure fluctuations.
