Review: bought a 2000 [redacted] there on may 22,2014, on the assumption from the dealer the car was in good running condition, and that everything was checked out and gone over before we bought it. upon getting the car home and parking in drive, there was no oil or fluids in car, and an oil leak was spotted immediately, now we are being told that there could be two bad turbos in the car that is very expensive to repair. I am thinking the dealer had to know of the leak, and of this problem when selling it. unlikely to have them go bad ad soon as you get car home. Has said this issue is of course not covered under warranty. So in addition to paying for the car we will have another 2500 dollars to pay out and have not been able to use the car so far.Desired Settlement: would very much like a refund on this car or would have liked to have him do the repairs, upon knowing this was an issue when he sold us the car. A refund would be our first choice, because there is a big trust issue there now, and would not think he would fix it right.

Response:

This vehicle is a 2000 [redacted]. Vehicle was gone over by our service dept. upon being traded in by a local customer with 86,643. During the time we were road testing this vehicle my mechanic - enjoyed driving this vehicle home several times at a round trip mileage of 110 miles. We actually drove the vehicle for 800 miles between trade in and the sale to the customer. During this time we did not need to add any oil to this vehicle and there was no oil residue on the spot vehicle was parked on while for sale. Upon sale there was only 87,443 miles on this vehicle. This vehicle was sold to customer with a limited warranty as are most of our vehicles. We sold this vehicle to customer in the belief that all was well upon delivery. On or around June 2nd several days after purchase customer came by with a check engine light on and asked us to diagnose. Due to a busy schedule that day we did a quick reading and determined there was an O2 sensor fault and suggested customer make an appointment for this repair. At this time there was no mention of any oil leak or any other issue. On June 18th vehicle was dropped overnight at our shop along with a note with a customer concern of an oil leak, passenger window acting strangely and to replace O2 sensor from previous diagnosis. Customer stated her son had added at least 3 quarts of oil to vehicle and she had gone to the dollar store to purchase more.We brought vehicle into shop and found the oil leak was coming from the turbo charger after cooler intake hoses indicating the turbo bearings were blown out. Here I will insert the repair order and timeline:Customer had previously stopped by on 6/1/14 with check engine light on . We found there were several DTC codes being [redacted] and [redacted] and were related to the O2 sensor on Bank 1. We cleared codes and asked customer to schedule an appt. time when we could furtherCustomer brought vehicle in today June 18th while son is away at the beach for us to diagnose. We found there were none of the original codes but there were 7 other codes present being [redacted], and [redacted] and several of these codes related to the O2 sensor on bank 2 and a code related to the catalytic convertor and EGR temp.Customer also stated her son has added 3 qts. of oil to vehicle. We found both the turbos are blown out and this is causing the excessive oil leak. Both turbos will need replaced and this may have taken out the catalytic convertors as well. This vehicle should not be driven until this is repaired as it could cause additional damage.Spoke to customer about repairs and options on the morning of 6/20. She stated her ex-husband and father both saw a small oil leak and told the son/driver to keep an eye on the oil level. Driver put 2146 miles on this vehicle in 24 days prior to dropping off at our facility. Customer stated she would talk with her mother and father over the weekend about paying for the repairs. On the morning of 6/23 customer called and said I should expect a visit from her father to discuss proposed repairs etc.On the mornig of 6/23 customers father came by my shop and said he had told the grandson about an oil leak and for him to check it often. Said he tried very hard to talk grandson out of buying [redacted] Turbo due to high maint. requirements but said the boy wanted [redacted]. Grandson won. He also said the grandson had added 3 or more qts. of oil shortly before deciding to bring vehicle in for repair. Told him most common reason for turbo failure is running low on oil. Said he would be in touch.Customers father came in on 6/26 to pick up car to repair himself. He understands the risk involved in causing further damage. He understands this will void the engine warranty. The vehicle warranty unfortunately does not cover the turbochargers on this vehicle. We believe there was negligence on the customers part in allowing this vehicle to run low on oil. We did offer to help the customer by selling all parts at cost and reducing our labor times normally associated with this repair. They DECLINED.Regards,President
