This is what I recall happening. A young lady called the restaurant asking about booking a date for Rehearsal dinner, [redacted] our other manager, spoke to told her that it was a $150.00 down payment to hold the date, the amount of the room fee.  She told Mike, that she would pay the down...

payment at the wedding expo, which was about a month out.  Here is where things get tricky, when she spoke to [redacted] on the phone she was told the current prices, all of the prices were about to go up on January 1st.  So, she wanted to make sure that if she would have these prices for her event.  We told her yes, we would do that but make sure to come in and make a deposit as soon as possible.  She never stopped in to see me at the restaurant, instead she waited to come to our booth at the wedding expo held in Watertown each year, which was fine, but because of all the price changes I did not have a contract for her with any of the same prices she was promised.  So, I wrote her down payment in my Event book/calendar and signed it for my record, and gave her a hand written verification of payment.  I also explained to her that this down payment is to hold the date, it is made so that we don't turn other people away and it keeps you from canceling.  This down payment is to help cover that expense we would be losing out on.  I then told her that when we got closer to the date, October 14, I would need her to come in and talk to me about food options and payment methods, when we both fill out the contract together and sign it.   She understood and thanked me again for giving her the old prices.  About a month later she called me asking me to mail her the contract, I told her that I am going to need a copy and I would really like to go over options together, she insisted that I mail it to her, So I did.  At this point everything was fine, between us.  I needed to hear from her about serving times and food options, but was not to worried with the dinner being months away. Then I heard back a few weeks later that the never received the contract in the mail. I don't know if she really didn't receive it, or if this is how she wants to turn it on us, but the contract was sent.  We were on the phone and she was very upset from the get go, I tried to explain to her that I sent it but she wouldn't have it.  She in insisted on receiving her down payment back and I explained that it was a non refundable down payment because we have been holding that date for her. She then told me that she was in our restaurant a few weeks before this phone call on a spy mission to see how a Friday dinner/service would be for her rehearsal dinner.  I Then asked her why she didn't talk to me about food and contract stuff then?  Like many other people who come in to eat and talk to me about their upcoming event.  Her answer was because she didn't want me to know it was her???? I told her again that we would not refund the down payment,  and with her event only a few months away we offered to still host the event and the down payment would be taken off the bill as agreed .  She was very upset and hung up. That was the end of it, until we got a letter from you.  Thank you for your time,[redacted]
