On Top Roofing L.L.C.

Review: Roof at skylite was leaking, roofer agreed to repair leak for $150. Work was shoddy, roof still leaked. Roofer agreed to refund payment but never did.

[redacted] ([redacted]) of On-Top Roofing, a company which I'd used before for cleaning and painting my roof tiles, agreed to repair a leak in my roof above the living room directly in line with the skylight. He sent an employee up to caulk the skylight, after which I paid him the agreed-upon $150 fee. The roof continued to leak just as badly as before the repair, so I contacted another roofer. He went on the roof and said the caulking was the worst he'd ever seen. The On-Top Roofing employee just blobbed the caulking, didn't even spread it out or press it down. The second roofer removed the blobs all along the skylight and re-did the repair job.

I have in my possession the email I wrote to [redacted] ([redacted]), expressing my unhappiness with the poor workmanship and noting that I'd had to have the work re-done. The email response I received from [redacted] (dated 11/28/13) said "I'm sorry I'm off island till next year and I will send you a refund when I return." Note: The work was done over the Xmas/New Year's holidays. By next year, he meant 2014.

I have since then written several more emails asking when I could expect a refund, but have not received the promised refund or a response to my emails.

For backup of this complaint, I have 3 photos taken on 10/17/13 which show the poor quality of workmanship. The worst of these pictures is attached to this complaint. I even saved a big blob of caulking in case the company disputed the quality of the work.

I also have copies of all the emails pertaining to the poor work, continuing leakage, and requests for a refund, as well as [redacted]'s agreement to refund me the $150.

I paid [redacted] of On-Top Roofing $150 with [redacted] check number [redacted], dated 9/26/14, and cashed on 10/17/13.Desired Settlement: Refund of $150 paid for extremely poor roof repair that did not fix the leak for which the payment was made.

Company insisted they had sent the refund already. Regardless, they sent another check, so I'm satisfied with the resolution of this case.
