Also had trouble with flying shingles. many shingles were nailed only to thin sheet of metal. We had to have our roof replaced after 10 years due to that problem, poor flashing, other - multiple leaks. Multiple attempts to fix with spot repairs by other roofers.

Review: I contacted Mr [redacted] for a quote on the following project for my stairwell: remove carpeting on stairs, sand off glue under carpet, clean, and paint stairs, remove peeling wallpaper, clean and paint walls and ceiling. For this job he verbally quoted me the price of $500. No breakdown of time or materials was provided. I accepted this bid and hired him to do this work. He requested I provide a $200 payment to buy "supplies" before he started work.

He cancelled the first weekend he was scheduled to start the project because he injured himself on another job. I told him to call me when he was healed and able to do the work and we could start then. He contacted me a month or so later indicating he was healed enough and able to do the work. We scheduled for the weekend of June 27-28. He asked me to provide the $200 payment ahead of time so he could buy "supplies" before he arrived to work on Saturday. He called Saturday morning and cancelled. He said he would work all day Sunday.

When he arrived Sunday I found he was wearing a cast & using a walker (i.e. could barely move). He assured me he could still do the work. He removed all the carpeting and left at 10:30 claiming he had to get his son to work at 1. I believe the real issue to be he was not in any shape to be doing this work. The removal of the carpet (had he not been injured) would probably have only taken about a half hour as he did not remove any stapes or any other debris (other than bagging the carpet). Instead it took much longer and the assistance of his son to do this work. When he left my stairs were covered with powdered glue, leaving me a safety issue of possible slippage as well as possibly tracking the material throughout the house were I to use the stairs to the basement.

He indicated he was getting his cast off on Wednesday 7/8/15 and would be much more mobile and able to do the job on the following weekend July 11-12 so we scheduled for that time. I let him know I was concerned about the stairs and that I needed him to focus on sanding and cleaning the stairs before moving on to another portion of the project. He agreed.

He arrived on 7/11 still wearing the cast and using the walker, but assured me he was able to do the job. He worked for less than a half hour and sanded a patch approximately 4" round on one stair. At that point he told me he did not want to do this sanding, it was too much work. When I questioned him, he indicated he could do it, but that he just didn’t' want to. Part of it was that he apparently did not have the right tools. He complained there was too much dust from sanding and a sander with a bag should be used (he did not have one). I suggested he go rent one. He said he would call some other trades persons he knew and see if he could get someone who specialized in flooring to come do the work. He also indicated that I would need to contract with that person directly and pay them.

At that point I requested he refund the deposit of $200 I paid him if he was not going to do the work. He refused. He began making excuses about his being inured, about my not scheduling with him on weekdays, etc. But the truth is he was already there, he admitted to me he was capable of doing the work, he just did not want to. He had originally claimed the money was for "supplies" however he asked me to purchase the paint, so the only supplies he would have needed would be the wallpaper remover, so there was no expenditure on supplies in relation to the work done.

Since he did not do the work he was hired to do, and refused to do the work he was hired to do, and since the very little work he did left me with a mess that will cost me extra time and money to clean up, I expect a refund of the full $200 that was paid in advance of the job. He has refused to provide this. He did leave a bucket of tools at the house, and I told him those would not be returned until I received the refund.Desired Settlement: Since he did not do the work he was hired to do, and refused to do the work he was hired to do, and since the very little work he did left me with a mess that will cost me extra time and money to clean up, I expect a refund of the full $200 that was paid in advance of the job.

[redacted], owner of One Call Home Repair, did a new roof for me about 6 yrs ago with 30 yr shingles. Theoretically, he removed the plywood and put on new shingles and flashing. Shingles have been flying off ever since. I had my roof redone last week. To my horror, I found out that >many of the shingles were not attached to anything because he removed my old plywood and, in many areas, didn't put any new plywood down; and >sometimes the shingles were not even nailed in.

I called him repeatedly to get the "flying shingles" repaired, but he would not answer my calls. I assumed he had skipped town. Now I found out that he is still taking "working".
