One Call Landscape & Design, Inc. Reviews (10)

I hired Kurth H[redacted] with One Call to do everything- trees, shrubs, sod, sprinklers, curbing, pavers, & low-voltage lighting. He was licensed, bonded & insured and did a decent job- no serious complaints, yet, a few things rubbed me the wrong way... From the start, he was extremely eager for me to accept his bid right after he came out. He called and left messages twice a day for 3 days straight, until I called him back. When I did, I tried explaining I had two more estimates I was waiting on—he then became extremely interruptive throughout the rest of the conversation, trying to sell me any which way he could. He swore up & down he's the only one in town that uses NOTHING BUT 'top of the line of everything'. I wound up going with him, as his bid was only $75 higher than 2 others and the other two I was waiting on flaked out on me.

All of his/his crew’s work was done in a timely manner, everything looked beautiful and the sprinklers & lighting was working correctly. He made his 2 promised trips back out here to check on everything, over a 2 week period.

What I wasn’t impressed with his high pressure sales personality. When the job started (everything was finalized), he insisted on trying to up-sell everything we already agreed on. I didn’t put up with it and his pitch ended immediately. The pavers however, were a last minute add-on and while discussing it, he made sure to add in another subject at the same time—sure enough, because of that, the price was sketchy and when it was all done and said, my total for the pavers was $400. They installed 10 of them—standard 12 in. x 12 in. concrete pavestones-- BOTTOM OF THE LINE, STRAIGHT FROM HOME DEPOT at $1.10 EA! At that point, I was repulsed just looking at him, so I let it roll off my shoulders, I paid him and was smiling ear to ear the minute he & his crew dove away.

The placement wasn’t done very well-- now that the trees & palms are getting bigger, I see some serious crowding issues in the near future, so moving some of them within the next few months is a must.

Just after Christmas, I noticed ALL of the housings/bulbs to the low-voltage lighting were faded, starting to rust & everything, including the light bulb, was loose & rattling around on the insides. Fading, I could understand maybe after 2 summers, but just one? Rust? Unacceptable. They are made to be outside and should NOT rust. As far as the insides of them loose & rattling? That tells me they are NOT ‘top of the line’ either. I wound up researching the brand and model # to the system he installed and guess what? It’s the least expensive one that Malibu puts out and to top it off, this particular one has THE WORST reviews out there (my review resources were [redacted], [redacted], & [redacted]).

Thankfully I’m just laughing this all off, as it could have been much worse. I just simply don’t trust the guy and definitely wouldn’t recommend him. Without a doubt, he would take advantage of someone that’s impressionable or just simply naive to landscaping, pricing, etc.

Very professional. Involved me in all decisions including design, plants, changes, etc. Workers worked hard, were on time, and got the project done as promised. Very happy with the results. Highly recommend.

Our experience with One Call Landscaping was outstanding in every aspect. We decided to completely re-landscape our back yard to include a spa/pool (spool), a pergola, a barbeque and total rework of all other landscaping aspects. The spool was handled separately by a swimming pool company and everything else was accomplished by One Call.

Our original gravel surface had been one of our problems; an anti-personnel mess of ugly rocks that disparaged anyone from walking on it. Once it was scraped it up to remove it we found that it had hidden an excessive watering problem that left portions of the yard unsuitable for further development until it had dried. One Call got the permits and began the pergola installation. It was attached to the house and required inspections by the city for each stage. They also began construction of the built-in barbecue grill structure. Plumbing and underground electrical wiring proceeded rapidly, all well thought out in advance. As soon as the spool was finished sufficiently to permit it, pavers were placed across much of the back yard. We were impressed by the intricate care that went into placement and of the precise grading that was accomplished to ensure proper drainage. We had several interim sessions before the pavers were finished that allowed us to make last minute decisions as to the desired layout and even to change a little of what had been done. The travertine area surrounding the spool, the stacked stone that framed the waterfall and all the other nice touches that surrounded the spool were all done by One Call.

A pre-existing raised garden had been someone’s do-it-yourself project that was not especially attractive and certainly had major irrigation problems including an unwanted slope. One Call raised the garden by adding wall height, made it level, filled it with compost and topped it with a travertine surface that created an inviting place to sit while tending the garden. They also provided an appropriate watering system designed to handle garden plants, not bushes or trees. An unexpected bonus appeared when one of the crew brought over two tubs of garden plants he had available and offered them as gifts to jump start the garden. Within a month the garden was filled with tomatoes and other delectables.

A wall was constructed around the spool support equipment, tailored on the fly to screen the equipment while fitting into the overall landscape design.

The barbecue took shape and the pergola was constructed. We watched as electricians, plumbers, tile layers, concrete specialists and many other trades did the sometimes intricate work that was required. More city inspections. One Call’s owner, [redacted], was on-site often and did a superb job of coordinating all these different activities. He was also attentive to our interests, questions and observations. He had determined the types and kinds of vegetation that would be appropriate for our new project and we found almost every one of his choices to be spot on. All vegetation was brought in and placed in permanent locations in a two-day burst of activity. Shrubs lined the walls on all sides and beautiful flowers provided accents in every direction. The transformation was dramatic and a powerful affirmation of the design talents of Mr. [redacted]. The barbecue grill was one of the last portions completed and exceeded our expectations in both appearance and function.

It was determined that we would have high-pressure misters installed on the pergola and foggers in the vegetation surrounding the yard. Since this required coordination with the pool company and another new contractor for the misters, things went rather slowly during this final installation and On Call went to some effort to facilitate the problem solving.

The project is finished and is a source of many oohs and aahs from all visitors. It has been possible to sit in what would have been a miserably hot back yard and enjoy all the exotic scenery in air that is cooled by the misters and foggers. Mr. [redacted] has come by repeatedly, assuring that everything is to our specifications, is working properly, and that we are happy with it. The many steps involved in this project left opportunities galore for problems and missteps but everything went smoothly and the finished project was literally more comprehensive and attractive than we expected.

I highly recommend On Call Landscaping as a dependable, imaginative and easy-to-work-with firm that can turn a landscape nightmare into an attractive haven.

I recently had a pool designed and was looking for a company to have landscape/hard scape designed and installed as well. I was referred to One Call Landscape and Design and could not be more happy about my experience with them. When [redacted] came to our house for our bid he was very easy to work with. He listened to every detail and idea we had in the design of our yard. I gave him a list of plants, trees, and flowering shrubs my wife and I would like to have in our yard and when One Calls team came to install the landscaping they not only gave us exactly what we had on our wish list, but also some other great options as well to incorporate into the design if we liked. When [redacted] and his crew were finished with the instal, our back yard was absolutely beautiful! From the lanscaping, to the lighting, to the built in BBQ & fire pit that One Call also installed, we absolutely love our back yard oasis and have received many compliments from others who come to see the finished product. I would definitely refer One Call Landscape & Design to any body looking to have superior quality work done at a very reasonable price.

One Call Landscape re-landscaped my yard about a year ago. The product service was great. Kurth, the owner, always showed up on time for meetings, came in on budget and in the agreed upon time frame. He also called over the next couple months to make sure that I was happy with the work and if the plants were doing well. I recommended him to a friend and she had a great experience as well.
