Prior to delivery of my Rototiller for carburator problems, I called the business owner for the expense for repair. I was quoted only $75.00. He stated that he was saving me money on my repair service; but after a phone call to him prior to picking up my machine, he quoted me $911.00 plus change. I asked why the difference in price and he asked "are you hold me to my previous price of $75?" and the carburator wasn't that dirty.Upon returning home with my Tiller, I started operating it in my garden, but it continued to stall like the carburator wasn't adjusted properly under working conditions. So I called him again and stated my problem in the forenoon. The mechanic showed up later and adjusted the carborator and it began to run smoother. But shortly after, it would shut off again and again after the mechanic had returned to the shop.So I recalled the shop owner and he guaranteed his work and stated there would be no charge for checking my machine again and no delivery charge. I took him at his word and returned my machine to the shop and he replaced the coil, stating that caused the machine to shut off when hot.On May 10 my tiller was delivered at home and he presented me with a bill for $98.70 for repairs for a total of $188.70 for carburator cleaning and new coil.His word isn't worth much--I will no longer do business with him in the future. He must have a short memory and cannot be trusted.Desired SettlementTo clarify, Mr. [redacted] is looking for $98.70 back from the business. Business' Initial Response I called Mr. [redacted] at his home to try and resolve the matter he has presented to the Bureau. I reminded him of my shop's policy that I guarantee all of my work for the season and that if it was something relative to prior work, then he would be covered. However, the problem that was happening was not relative to the prior work I had done on the carburetor which could only be determined after the tiller was running for a period of time. His tiller required an ignition coil that would only break down after an hours use and after diagnosing this NEW condition, the offending coil was replaced. I believe Mr. [redacted] is conveniently forgetting that my policy was explained to him and that I do not guarantee work that I haven't performed, only work that I had performed during any given season. As his tiller had multiple issues that were not readily identifiable on his first visit, he was charged accordingly to what was wrong with his tiller. I did not charge Mr. [redacted] for pickup and delivery and only charged him cost on the coil with cut rate on the labor involved to show good faith. I explained this to Mr. [redacted] and he was quite angry that it even cost him a penny. He is a very difficult man and I was patient and understanding throughout our phone call before he hung up on me. I wish him well, and hope that he brings his poor attitude to another shop.
