Ontario Green Savings Response • Oct 28, 2019

Ontario Green Saviings has received your website inquiry over the weekend. Management is currently reviewing about the rebate. Once review is complete you will be contacted to discuss further.

Please allow up to approx 48 business hours to be contacted.

I recently purchased a new home and assuming to be similar to a government program that gave free thermostats in previous years I signed up for free *** thermostat offering posted by ontario green savings on *** .

The sales agent who visited my place on Sept 7 2019 mentioned that to qualify for the "free thermostat" offer there is a pre-requisite for installation of mandate carbon filter at my place. He also claimed that the monthly payment commitment (of $59.99 + tax/mo)for next 10 years with carbon filter service would not be a burden on me but rather even out the hydro and gas bills by about 30% by removing scaling, salt, odor from the city supplied water and making it soft and safe for consumption and increase the life span of appliances which eventually leads to reduced hydro and gas bills monthly.
Since I recently moved to this new address, ignorant of these claims I signed up the contract and the carbon filter along with the free thermostat was installed the very next day Sept 8 2019 at my place. The 1st monthly payment amount of $67.79 also was deducted from my bank account on Sept 16 2019.
On doing further research I found out that there is no significant benefit for me in having the carbon filter since there is no water treatment requirement prescribed by the city of Ottawa and this is not a norm by other home owners in my locality.
On analyzing further, the following issues are seen:-
1) During registration, the sales agent did not mention anything about monthly increase every year by 3.35% ,which I see mentioned in the contract.
2) Also,on research I see that the pricing of 59.99$(+tax) for 10 years is way more than what I can get for installing and maintaining a new carbon filter myself.
3) The gas and hydro bills that I received have no link to this unnecessary carbon filter expense. The claim made by ontario green savings on saving 30% and also no impact on my monthly payments is not true.

Hence with the expectation that I did not want to continue with this contract any further,on Oct 1 2019,I 1st contacted the sales agent who visited us and told him of all the discrepancies and asked him to arrange to cancel my contract and take back the carbon filter and the free thermostat. In response to my message he had his manager call me and mentioned that I have no way to get out of the 10 year contract unless I purchased the carbon filter equipment by paying about $7000.Only thing he can do is offer some add-ons like 3 months no bill payments to which I did not agree and he said he could not help any further.
I next sent an email describing the same and intention to cancel my contract to ***@ontariogreensavings.com.Since I did not get any response,I called the customer cr and was connected to a supervisor who claimed that they never received my email and insisted that I could send the same to her personal email address so that she could forward it to her superiors and asked me to wait for 2-3 days to hear back.On Oct 7 2019,1 of the manager contacted me and mentioned the same thing that I have no way to get out of the 10 year contract unless I purchased the carbon filter equipment by paying about $7000.He also presented me options like slight reduction in the monthly bill, freezing the monthly amount without 3.35% yearly hike for 10 years. He even tried to justify the need for carbon filter by saying it would save my monthly soap, detergent usage which seems illogical.

Bottom-line is I have been trapped into this unnecessary carbon filter 10 year commitment through "free thermostat" deal resembling an earlier government program. All possible interactions with Ontario green savings have lead to unreasonable alternatives.

As I am a single income earner in my family and would not be able to sustain this unnecessary expense over and above my other monthly commitments,I would request help to have this contract terminated by ontario green savings and take back their carbon filter and thermostat immediately.

Desired Outcome

Cancel the 10 year contract right away and take back the carbon filter appliance and free thermostat from my home immediately.

Ontario Green Savings has spoke with *** on October 4th and addressed all his concerns.

It was explained of the potential savings with the carbon filter and smart thermostat. Based on household usage, the savings can offset the monthly rate in part or in its entirety depending on his household usage with laundry soaps, shampoos, dish detergent, etc as with the filtered water, he needs to use less of these products which means he does not need to buy as often which does translate into potential savings.

The smart thermostat will help the consumer to save up to 23% on his heating and cooling costs.

Ontario Green savings explained that his cancellation is past the ten day cooling off period and a third party verification call was conducted with *** which he agreed and understood the agreement rate, term length and what equipment being installed.

The billing department has provided this customer 1 month free rental as well as Ontario Green Savings offered to reduce his monthly rate to 49.99 + HST, provide a full term price freeze so the annual increase would not apply to him and also send him a check to cover an additional one month free.

*** spoke with our office again on October 7th and he had indicated he would like a little more time about the lower rate offer.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
My prime concern has always been to cancel the contract with ontario green savings and have them take back the carbon filter and thermostat. This has NOT been addressed by ontario green savings at all.All they are doing is deviating from my concern and talking about providing price reductions, interest guarantees which I am not interested due to the reasons below:-

1) The claims made by ontario green savings around carbon filter has no logical sense at all.Monthly laundry soaps, shampoos, detergents cost is definitely NOT a pocket burner on any common household and hence cannot be the criteria to have the carbon filter installed and sustain a monthly rental of 49.99$+HST(that too for 10 years) to offset the savings. This amount is way more than what a medium household would normally spend for laundry or detergents in a month.
Moreover this laundry, detergents savings point was brought out by the last manager who spoke to me on call after my cancel request was raised. The agent who visited my place during registration had a different story to tell.He made other claims about need for carbon filter as the water coming from city supply needs treated for harmful chemicals, smell etc.to be safe for consumption and usage.
On learning from the city of Ottawa that the supplied water is safe for consumption and doesn't need explicit treatment, this carbon filter is definitely a redundant & unnecessary expense to bear.

2) There is no correlation of smart thermostat with carbon filter as they are 2 different devices serving different purposes.Smart thermostat could contribute to heating and cooling savings but the cost of the smart thermostat in the market is around $200-$250.
What kind of justification is this to link a $200 thermostat product with $7000 carbon filter product?

Conclusion from my end is,I DO NOT want to accept any further offers or price reductions from ontario green savings and live with this unnecessary burden for the next 10 years. All I want is to have the contract cancelled and appliances removed from my premises immediately.

This is the whole reason I approached Revdex.com to help me get out of the contract in this matter.

Ontario Green Savings Response • Oct 16, 2019

Mr. had in fact responded to the *** advertisement about the free thermostat which stated it is qualification based. Upon setting up an appointment with the customer, we have advised upon completion of the assessment, there may be recommendations provided to him to increasse his homes efficiency and it is solely his decision if he wish to proceed with any recommended products and at time of installation of the recommended product the thermostat would be provided at no additional cost.

Mr. had ample opportunity to change his mind during the ten day cooling off period and a simple call to us wishing to cancel, customer could of cancelled with the technician arrived for the installation.

The potential savings of a carbon filter are not guaranteed as its based on household usage. The potential savings is buying laundry soaps, dish detergent, hair care products as less is used so results in buying less often. Chemical free water also helps prolong the life expectancy of the water heater as filtered water reduces the chance of rust forming at bottom of the tank and reduces chemical build up on the anode.

The smart thermostat was provided at no extra cost and smart thermostats are designed to help save up to 23% on heating and cooling cost.

The customer only expressed his desire to cancel after the cooling off period which his options were clearly explained to him. Ontario Green Savings has offered to provide a lower monthly rate of 49.99 + HST, a full term price freeze as well as an additional month free. The recorded third party verification call was completed and the customer had a clear understanding of the agreement which he acknowledged and confirmed.

Ontario Green Savings is fully compliant with any other regulation setforth.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
There was never a mention of 10 day cooling off period at anytime during registration by the agent who visited my place and made recommendations for carbon filter installation nor the call center team (who confirmed the contract on call the same day) nor the technician who installed the carbon filter the very next day.
I find it hard to believe while all legitimate stores and businesses make explicit mention of return policy or the 10 day cooling off period even for small products like vacuum cleaner purchases costing 100$,it is rather irrational by ontario green savings who don't follow the same practice for slapping their clients with costly 10 year contracts mounting to 7000$.

Being a new immigrant and new resident of Ontario,I was very much unaware of the 10 day cooling off period rule until I found it printed in small letters at the back of main contract page,on deciding to cancel the contract after checking correctness of all the false claims made and finding out that I was duped in 2 weeks. In the same lines in fact,I recall that the agent who visited mentioned that I need to observe my bills for few months to feel the savings impact. This I realize now was a ploy to make me hold the product until 10 day cooling off expiry so that they could boldly make regulation claims around it.They even charged my 1st payment amount of $67.79 within 10 days of installation on Sept 15th,which I never expected would happen so fast and before even completing 1 month.

Like I mentioned earlier,I mistook the free thermostat offer by ontario green savings to be a government initiative which was offered in earlier years for home owners and apart from the thermostat I wasn't expecting any other product recommendations nor purchases from ontario green savings but ended up being misled by their agent to have carbon filter installed with the false claim of removing harmful chemicals, odor from city supplied water.I am now paying the price for ignorantly believing all the false claims made upfront by them.
If only Ontario green savings was as clear and rigid as it is today in responding to your notice with the statement that the potential savings are not guaranteed with their products, contrary to what was told during registration and all my interactions,I would have never signed up.

I still find ontario green savings correlation of the 2 devices illogical.
They are making savings claims around a 7000$ carbon filter disguised in a 250$ thermostat.

After having sold me their product making false, guaranteed and illogical claims,I find the whole business practice to be unethical, deceiving and am not interested in any further options or lower rates offers, but only seek termination of the contract and removal of devices from ontario green savings and freedom from this 10 year trap.

A technician will visiting Saturday February 1st between 9am - 1pm.

Customer Response • Feb 03, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Carbon filter has been removed from my home as intended and the contract terminated.
Thanks Revdex.com for following up and helping me get out of this issue.
Only concern is I lost last 4 months of monthly payment totaling $271 while waiting for solution to this issue, which I was told would not be refunded back.

They false advertised the free thermostat. ***. Once in your house, they tell you that they want to see your water tank and furnace to the determent if it is compatible with the thermostat. Then they try to sell you the water filtration system that supposes to save you money. *** they are bypassing the law by advertising the free thermostat which you will never get unless you sign up for the water filtration system.

This company goes door to door to let you know that you will save 'money' but it in the end cost you thousands of $$$$$$$$$ over years as it is a form of financing.

This company's management is very eager to sell and promises many rebates that they take care of every details regarding the rebates. I've been waiting for 3 months now started making calls, it's to late for the *** rebate and we had to submit the rebate our self.
There's a cost of living increase of 3% on your monthly payment that they do not tell you so again promised a check, nobody is aware of anything.
A rebate if we agreed to sign that day again nobody aware of anything.

Hi Mr. L., according to our records you and Mrs. L. had spoke with our Compliance Manager which a check as been mailed to you on July 19th

On 20 Jun 19, I saw an ad on *** for a Free *** thermostat, I signed up for the ad as at that time I had known about a government program that ran in previous years and thought it has been brought back. I was contacted on 21 Jun 19 to set up an appointment to have the *** thermostat delivered to my home after answering all the questions and under the impression myself and my home met all the requirements. On 22 Jun 19 Mr. *** came to my home as a representative for the Ontario Green Savings program. We spoke about the program and he asked to see our furnace. At this time we have all high efficiency appliances and that we met the standard. He then went on to explain that for a number of years there was a government mandate to have a carbon filter on our water tank and how much money this would save us over time and in a number of rebates we would become eligible for through *** and ***. During these conversations Mr. led us to believe he and his company were a government sponsored program and even told us the reason they were hired by the government was because of their quick response time over *** and ***. He then went on to show us paper copies from Revdex.com with a rating of "A" and a number of reviews for their company. On 23 Jun another employee came to our home to install this much needed water filter and our *** thermostat that was part of the original offer. At that time I started doing some additional research on Ontario Green Savings and realized the information provided by Mr. the day before was not correct and he was not way affiliated with the original Government program. I feel the free *** thermostat was a plough to enter our home to sell us appliances that are not required and we were ***. I have tried to contact the company as per their agreement and keep getting told a manager needs to call me to discuss but no manager is available and has yet to call me back.

Desired Outcome

I would like the company to be truthful in their ads about the free *** thermostat. I do not believe they should be able to come into our homes and misrepresent themselves as being hired by the Government. I would like the carbon filter removed and I do not wish to pay for a product that is not required and that there is no rebates for.

Ontario Green Savings Response • Jul 26, 2019

Ontario Green Savings has been trying to get back in touch with Ms. on several occasions and appears our call connection is not going through.

We welcome Ms. to call us and if the Manager is not available to please provide us a time of day to call her back which would be before 5pm so further discussion can be held.

Customer Response • Jul 26, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I have at no time been contacted by the company since 09 July 2019 when I contacted them and spoke to ***. I was told at that time not to contact them again and that she would contact me with regards to a time that the carbon filter would be removed. They have made no attempts to call me as I would gladly take this call as I would like this resolved as soon as possible. This company has no good intentions and have been nothing but dishonest throughout this entire process.

Ontario Green Savings Response • Aug 08, 2019

had spoken with *** at Ontario Green Savings.

It has been agreed that customer will wait until there is a technician in the Barrie area and once that is known when, we will removal the carbon filter and smart thermostat for Ms..

Also offered if she is willing to keep the equipment we can reduce her rate to 29.99 +_ HST which she did not declined nor accept but will consider it and speak with Mr. and if declined then removing at no cost will still happen once a technician is in her area.

On April 1st 2019, I signed an agreement to lease a furnace with Ontario Green Savings at a price of $89.99 per month plus HST. A *** Two Stage Gas Furnace was installed on April 2nd 2019.

Written and oral requests to cancel the agreement have been made. The company will not return my calls or discuss the matter. I wish to exercise my right to cancel the agreement as a result of unfair business practice(s) and as a result of non-disclosure(s) as described in the Consumer Protection Act, 2002.

1. Ontario Green Savings came to solicit furnaces and water heaters via door-to-door marketing without the homeowner having contacting him first which is prohibited under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002.

2. The copy of the contract that was provided to me is checked off "contacted the supplier to invite them to your home to buy or lease one of the products above" which is false. In reality, when the contract was signed, this box was not checked off. The representative checked the box off after the contract had been signed and dated.

3. The representative provided us with an advertisement for "a free smart thermostat". The advertisement is incorrect as the representative later told us that we would have to rent a furnace to obtain the thermostat. The Revdex.com Code of Advertising stipulates that "An advertiser may use the word "free" in advertising whenever the advertiser is offering an unconditional gift. If receipt of the "free" product or service is conditional on a purchase, then the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously disclose this condition with the "free" offer.

4. The representative also claimed that Ontario Green Savings was accredited by ***, and that they were a Government entity which is not accurate.

5. The representative recommended unnecessary replacements to our Furnace and Water Heater, both of which have been working without issue since we purchased the house 2 years ago.

6. The representative informed us that the cost of $89.99 per month would not change over time. This is inaccurate as based on the fine print of the contract, that Monthly Payment will increase by 3.5% annually.

7. The price the representative gave us to purchase a new furnace and water heater were both inflated to discourage us from purchasing these items (i.e. renting them instead). He informed us that the cost of the furnace provided would be over $10,000, which is inaccurate. Recent quotes suggest the furnace is worth $2,000-3,000.

8. We were not informed that a lien (security interest) would placed on the house, and the contract wording is misleading stating "suppliers MAY register a security interest". This important disclosure should have been made very clear by your sales representative.

9. The required maintenance and insurance was not disclosed to me by the representative, in fact, I was told that Ontario Green Savings would be performing annual maintenance as part of the agreement.

We contacted Ontario Green Savings by phone to discuss cancelling our services on multiple occasions previously including on May 7th, May 8th, May 9th, and May 10, 2019. We were told on that we would be contacted by upper management within 48-72 hours and have yet to receive a call back.

The contract states: " If you did not invite this salesperson to your home for the purpose of buying or leasing the goods listed above, this contract may be void and you may be able to keep the goods or services without any obligations".My preference is to have the contract null and void and to keep the furnace without any additional fees. If this is not possible, I would be willing to hear, and would like to know what the competitive purchase price would be to purchase the furnace as is. As per clause #9 on the contract, the option to purchase the product, should be at fair market value.

Desired Outcome

Ontario Green Savings call Ms. on June 2nd and a voicemail was left to call back regarding this concern.

On July 8th, Ontario Green Savings called again and spoke with a 3rd party person and he said they are working.

I asked to have Ms. to call me back and he said she will tomorrow (July 9)

Customer Response • Jul 21, 2019

This response remains unsatisfactory.
Indeed *** from Ontario Green Savings management has tried to call me on a few occasions, however I do not have access to my personal cell phone during my work hours. I have tried to call him back on multiple occasions but his extension does not work and his reception staff refuses to transfer me to him. They ask me to leave a message with the promise of having my call returned that day; however I never get called back until a few days later, when I am back at work.

I left several messages with an alternate phone number to contact my spouse. Furthermore, I included in my messages the dates when I would be off work and available to take calls during the week, but he did not attempt to contact me on those days.

As a final remark, he mentioned in his response on this site that he contacted me initially on June 2nd, which is incorrect. The case was opened only on June 24th and I never received calls from Ontario Green Savings prior to July 2019.

Ontario Green Savings Response • Jul 08, 2019

On July 20th Ontario Green Savings had spoke with *** as well as ***.

This furnace sale was not conducted through door to door as Ontario Green Savings had received an online web lead submission from *** which a recorded call indicated that he had submitted the request and confirmed his address and contact information. The appointment was made which *** was also presented.

Ms. had signed the agreement for the furnace, a third party verification call was conducted with the customer which she had confirmed and understood the agreement.

There was a ten day cooling off period from the date of signing the agreement which the customer had ample time for deciding to review the agreement and its terms and conditions. During this period she had the option to cancecl by contact Ontario Green Savings which we have not heard from the customer until July 9th with respect to this concern delivered to OGS through Revdex.com.

Ontario Green Savings offered to speak with the financial institution to see if a discount on buying out the furnace can be done.

The person we need to speak with at the financial institution is currently on vacation until next week.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
***

They are stating that they did not conduct door to door sales which is entirely false.

They came to the door stating that they were offering free smart thermostats and that we simply had to sign up by online. At the doorstep they walked us through the steps.

In the fine print of the online link was stipulation that we were actually signing up for them to come visit our home and discuss the sale of HVAC products and rentals. We were not interested in renting or buying HVAC products. We simply were looking for the free thermostat.

The thermostat is not FREE. You must purchase products to be eligible.

Moreover we never would have known about this link had it not been for the door to door salesperson who came to solicit, ***, HVAC products.

Ontario Green Savings is now denying altogether that someone visited our home that day. They claim that we independently decided to go on the website and sign up for an in home assessment, which is false. In fact, we had never heard of Ontario Green Savings before they came to our home and mislead us in bad faith.

Ontario Green Savings is now refusing to sell us the furnace at fair market value as per clause number 9 of our contract. We are trying to be reasonable but have not been met with reasonable responses.

Lastly, there are continued delays in communication efforts on their end. We are just looking to resolve the matter and it seems there is always an excuse not to get back to us.

We have been trying to resolve this issue since May.

Ontario Green Savings Response • Aug 21, 2019

The Compliance Manager at Ontario Green Savings has spoken with *** and her spouse *** and an agreed resolution has been achieved.

Ontario Green Savings is going to send a revised agreement to the customer which will indicate the monthly rate will be reduced from 89.99 + HST to 59.99 + HST for the remaining portion of the agreement.

*** also agrees to sign the revised agreement and return the white copy back to Ontario Green Savings so it can be provided to the billing company so the new rate will commence.

A representative came to our door asking to speak to one of us by name, and claimed we were already renting equipment from them. We have never done business with this company, and when we called thier customer service, they claimed that we weren't in the system.

Ontario Green Savings Response • Jun 13, 2019

Mr. T., we appreciate your feedback as it is valuable to Ontario Green Savings.

I have checked our database and we have no record of your name, email address or postal code within our appointment system or customer database.

Ontario Green Savings does marketing online which an appointment would be setup before any of our agents visit your home.

It could be possible the visit was from another company that may have a similar name to Ontario Green Savings.

The individual that comes to your home for the thermostat is not an expert. Stating it is not compatible with your current furnace is not necessarily true. The thermostat offered is not necessarily the best thermostat on the market. Another Smart Thermostat, as good or better, is available from *** that can be installed.
The rental agreement document - I should have never be signed, I have since cancelled within the 10 days. The document does not tell you what you are buying or what you are paying for as there is no breakdown for the equipment purchased, the maintenance plan or the interest charged. Equipment and maintenance are totally covered but when you read the Terms and Conditions on the reverse side it implies that I am responsible for any defects and maintenance of the product. As well in the T and C it states the interest rate (which is not provided) will increase 3.5% annually.
***. Cheers

Ontario Green Savings Response • Jun 13, 2019

Thank you for your comments. We have checked our database and do see you had cancelled your order directly with the sales agent which he had notified our head office. The smart thermostat we provide with the purchase is *** which is a reliable thermostat and built by *** and can help homeowners save up to 23% of your heating and cooling cost.

The terms and conditions is fully compliant with all provincial and local regulations. Section 6 of the terms and conditions does mention the annual percentage rate of interest. There are other smart thermostats available which all have different benefits and features.

Our Compliance Manager had received your letter of cancellation which he had left you a voicemail on June 7th and left you a voicemail indicating nothing was scheduled for installation due to your cancelling of the order.

They advertised in *** a free Nest Thermostat with appointment for energy audit. However, they told me at the appointment that the free thermostat was only with the rental of high efficiency multi stage furnace ($80 per month). I wasted time out of my day and gave them personal information I would not otherwise have.

Desired Outcome

I want my personal information erased form their system

Ontario Green Savings Response • May 01, 2019

has brought to the attention of Ontario Green Savings that he decided to cancel

There is no active order in our system and there is no installation of any sort scheduled.

Our Compliance Manager would like to speak the customer for feedback on his experience as part of our internal quality review

My complaint is about the business practices of the company Ontario Green Savings. First I will describe the experience I had then I will detail my complaint.

I was first visited by a person named *** (contact info available upon request) at my home in the evening. He said that Ontario is currently running a program to provide replacement thermostats to qualifying homes. He said the main way a person is qualified is the model of the current thermostat in their home then showed me a laminated paper with pictures of qualifying thermostats. I showed him my thermostat and he said "I know it's not on this paper here, but there is in fact a longer list which I have memorized and I know your thermostat qualifies. I said great and asked him "I thought the credit to replace thermostats in Ontario was removed by ***." He said that's true but it has been replaced with this. So I asked if he was working with the government and if this was a government program and he said yes but that they were a private company tasked with deploying the program on the governments behalf. Then I said ok, what is the credit, he said I can receive a *** latest model or an *** latest model but he also showed me some other models that I could chose. I chose the *** latest model. He tried to convince me to pick another saying there was an issue where *** thermostats detect the wrong temperature when placed above a vent but I knew what I wanted and he filled that in. Then he collected some personal I formation without giving me a copy of what he took and said someone else will visit me to complete my qualification. He said I have the option to have someone install it for me or do it myself and I said I would like to do it myself.
I was contacted the very same day by a sales rep by phone. They said someone will come the next day to finish my qualification and they would also be presenting some of their other products and services for sale.

The next day someone named *** (contact information available upon request) came to my home at the scheduled time. After arriving he filled various forms and collected personal information from me without giving me a copy of any of the forms. Then he requested to see my furnace which of course is in my basement. Then he requested a copy of my gas, electricity and water bills. I gave him gas and electricity bills by email, he gave me his personal email address and said he doesn't have an email address with the company. Then he said we're basically almost good to go, he just needs to go and submit the information his company and to *** for review and that it would be very quick, at most 2 days and he would schedule the driver and installation of the thermostat. I told him I was ok with installing it myself and he said don't worry about it installation is free too. Then he tried to sell me a hepa filter and some kind of water treatment device which I rejected.

As soon as I rejected these items, he said the assessment needs more review and that his manager needs to give me a visit. And then he didn't ever call me back or follow up. So I followed up. He gave me a new appointment date, didn't show up and didn't call me to say he wasn't showing up. I called him the next day and rescheduled again. Same thing, did it again for a third time. When he didn't show up I suspected that this must be some sort ***. Then I spoke with a friend in a different part of the city who told me they had the exact same experience. ***

Additionally, do not let *** distract you by saying that his manager was going to assess why my gas bill was really high. I sent him a message the next day resolving this misunderstanding.

Desired Outcome

Resolution requested: If the company is legitimate 1. Send me a copy of all personal information they have collected from me 2. Promptly process my file and send me the promised equipment for installation by myself 3. Update their website with proof of association with *** and the province. If they are not telling the truth about either of these then to clearly state it on their website and to clearly tell each home they enter that they are not affiliated with them. 4. Change their company name to remove Ontario from it 5. Stop collecting any personal information from all clients, hire a privacy analyst to assess how the company is collecting personal information from CANADIAN citizens and to obligate them to improve their practices so that client information is not collected unnecessarily and and safeguarded when it is 6. To change their sales practices to honest ones where follow ups with clients are still held as originally promised. If they are indeed a *** company 1. cease all operations and destroy all personal information on their clients

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
As per Ontario Green Saving's (OGS) response to my complaint, I spoke with *** (contact information available upon request) who is OGS's Compliance Manager.

He first clarified that Ontario Green Savings is not directly affiliated with the provincial or federal government, which I replied does not match what was explained to me during my interaction with their sales agents. It was explained to me that during their training they teach their trainees to tell their potential clients that
1) They are funding the thermostats themselves
2) It was not clear whether this was explicitly explained or whether the training simply never implied it, but it was noted that the trainees are not taught that OGS is affiliated with the government

They additionally told me they will re-connect with their regional representatives to make sure that no further misrepresentations are made during their sales process. I did not request a follow up on this since it is an internal company issue to resolve and it would be impossible to follow up on the effectiveness of their strategies but *** did speak with the CEO about this issue so at a minimum I can confirm that their executive team is aware of the issue and I would be surprised if no actions were taken.

Regarding personal information, I was told my personal information was deleted/shredded from their files. This was a key concern I had and I am satisfied with this resolution. Due to the sensitivity of the information, OGS did not share with me their current processes for handling non-client information and client information, which I understand and accept. I would definitely urge OGS to explore having an information officer on their staff to help them further improve their handling of client data.

Finally, I want to note that ***'s communications and actions showed that the company does care about their sales practices and I was pleased with how he sincerely accepted the criticism I presented and respectfully listened to my complaints over the phone.

I want to thank OGS as well for offering to send me the *** smart thermostat with one room sensor for my baby's room. This is yet another token on how they take their sales practices seriously. I look forward to receiving the unit.

Things that were not discussed between me and *** not in the BB response and that I will NOT follow up on are:
How OGS handles booking and following up on appointments. This is an internal customer service procedure and I have raised my personal customer experience, I will leave it to OGS to improve on their current process.
The difference in treatment before and after saying I don't want to purchase their other products and only want a thermostat. This is an internal sales approach and I have raised my personal customer experience, I will leave it to OGS to review their current process.

I want to also thank OGS for answering me by phone and through Revdex.com. A company which takes Revdex.com complaints seriously is a company I can accept in my province.

They advertised in *** a free Nest Thermostat with appointment for energy audit. However, they told me at the appointment that the free thermostat was only with purchase of energy product ($5,000 AC unit in this case). I wasted time out of my day and gave them personal information I would not otherwise have.

Desired Outcome

I want my personal information erased form their system

Our Compliance Manager here at Ontario Green Savings has spoken with Mr. and apologized if our current promotion came across in a different way.

Ontario Green Savings is going to honor the free Nest thermostat and have it sent to him by courier.

I also mentioned that our marketing team will review the advertisement he saw on *** as well.
