Fitness Center continued to collect full dues and fees while being shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. Didn't notify members sufficiently that their money would be held from paychecks as normal. Fitness Center, and their ownership refused refunds when asked numerous times. As I am losing my job due to the pandemic, every dollar counts. I hadn't had an issue with the Fitness Center in the previous five plus years as a member, and that's why this is so upsetting.
Like most businesses our fitness center was required to close down due to COVID-19, we quickly came up with an approach to continue to serve our members remotely. Members were charged for a total of 5 weeks during closure, March 24th – April 30. No charges were extended for the first part of May with charges resuming on May 19 when the center was allowed to reopen with state and local guidelines in place, on this date the center became available to all members. Communications were sent regarding closure, membership fees and reopening as well as remote services and staff availability. Based on the 5 weeks that members were charged we feel that the fair refund would be in the amount of $34.10, this covers the total amount charged for the 5 weeks of facility closure.
