Optimum Heating Services Reviews (2)

Optimum Heating Services installed a new furnace in my home outside of Wabamun Alberta. The service was professional, and price of install competitive. Overall great service.

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/06/06) */
On April 29, I was asked to try to fix a furnace that had been working intermittently When I arrived I explained that my service truck was in the shop, but with my service tools I will be able to diagnose the furnace....I explained
that my service rate to show up initially is $which includes mileage and the first hour of service....If there happens to be a need of parts I would have to order them, pick them up and return another day to install....As the nights were no longer cold, this is common practice....Since the initial service fee is payed, if parts were needed, they would be extra, as well as the labour to install.........Not having my service truck with my limited parts supply had no bearing on my ability to work on the furnace...Since I work on numerous makes and models of furnaces, it is very cost prohibitive, and virtually impossible, to stock all parts to all furnaces
When we started up the furnace it ran without issue....I again asked what the furnace has been doing exactly to have it run so intermittently? He said that it would run for a few minutes and stop, not getting to 20c...the board would flash #, then lock out on #32.....It would start again but not be able to reach the desired temperature......I have seen many furnaces fail because of restricted airflow before, so I pulled out the furnace filter and saw it was quite plugged with dirt....Being that is an expensive, quite restrictive filter I believed that may have been the problem...I asked to see the service manual so we could go through the diagnostic codes from the manufacturer....After finding the pertinent part of the manual, through trial of elimination, it was determined to be the most probable cause .....We started and stopped the furnace with the thermostat a few times to confirm my suspicion ...With each time, I explained the startup and operation of the furnace as it worked ....(Make or model, the operation is the same)....As well, we went through each of the failure codes, and I explained what each one meant in relation to what was going on....In the end, I said in my opinion, it certainly looks like the dirty filter was the problem ....If the furnace doesn't fail in front of me, I can't fix it .....Although I did not clock how long I was there, I suspect it was more than an hour....I was not interested in collecting anything moreI could tell he was a bit embarrassed, and told him it was no big dealAnyone could have forgotten to clean their filter*** He *** paid me ....I left with telling him as I do all my customers, call me if there are any problems
I don't recall exactly when he called me back, a few days?, ***I started by saying I would be back to try fixing as soon as I could, but he would not let upBringing up that I didn't have my parts truck and I was ripping him off with charging him when I didn't fix his furnace ....***
With what transpired, I felt it was important to get the opinion of other local business owners to get their take as I saw itAt no point was I told by my colleagues that I had done anything wrong***
I received another phone call approximately weeks later***.He wanted his money back and if I didn't pay, he would "NEVER LET IT GO"I acknowledged it was his word against mine and that it was my reputation that would stand to suffer if this wasn't resolved
***
In my opinion, I provided a service to the best of my ability and was reimbursed appropriately
I will always reserve the right to refuse work that I perceive as threatening
Thank You
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 9, 2015/06/10) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
*** he refused to come and fix my furnace without charging me for another service call He did not fix my furnace the first time so I naturally thought he would come and finish the job and charging me for parts a labour not another service charge so yes we got into an argument and it was settled by him stating he would refund my money and I can get somebody else he went on to ask for my address and that was that
